Timeline

Birthday parties can be a lot of fun (and a lot of work!) To help you be present for the presents and enjoy the moment with your child, we've put together a comprehensive start to finish party plan for your birthday party celebration.

After you send out your fun party decorations 2 to 4 weeks in advance, it's time to start planning.

Shop for, print, and prepare any non-perishable items at least one week in advance. Make it a group effort by encouraging your child to help with the decorations if the party isn't a surprise.

If your party will be held outside, you will likely not be able to decorate much in advance, so schedule some time the morning of the party to hang decorations and put the final touches on your backyard.

The mini cupcakes can be decorated a couple of days ahead. The day before the party is the perfect time to prepare the cake pops - if decorating the cake pops is going to be a party craft, be sure that the candy outsides have completely hardened and are ready to be doodled on. Set out the rest of the party food and style the palettes on the desserts table just before the guests are due to arrive.

With all of the preparation set, you are ready to start the party. We suggest the following order of activities to help the day go smoothly. Let's party!

  1. Welcome guests with a fun activity

Have the kids gather around a table with crayons while you wait for everyone to arrive. Gather up everyone's pages and finish the book after the party.

  2. Decorate your cake pop treats
    20-25 minutes minutes

If you're having your guests decorate their cake pops as a craft, make sure to do this early in the party so they have time to harden up in the refrigerator before cake time.

  3. Let's create handprint art!

The party guests can create this craft solo or with their parents (if they're in attendance). Be sure to wash messy hands after!

  4. Make a Paintbrush Person
    20-25 minutes minutes

Get creative with your little artists as they decorate their own Paintbrush Person - set these out to dry so they can take their new friend home as a party favor!

  5. Time for cake and yummy treats
    30 minutes minutes

Bring out the mini cupcakes and sing to the birthday child! This is a good time to eat those paintbrush franks.

  6. Take a group picture
    15 minutes minutes

Make sure to capture the moment after the kids taste the treats! Have the kids gather in front of the birthday banner or desserts table for a colorful backdrop.

  7. Hand out party favor and say goodbye

Hand out the candy-filled crayon buckets for your party guests to bring home.
