When is the right time for your child to start potty training? There are some signs you’ll want to look for to make sure your child is ready. Even then, starts and stops in the potty training process can be normal, too.
Your child may be ready if:
- They’re making fewer wet diapers.
- They can undress themselves -- or at least pull down their pants.
- They seem interested in someone else going to the bathroom.
- Your child is going at predictable times of the day.
- They say they want to try.
If you’re still not sure if it’s time to begin potty training, then you may want to talk to your child’s pediatrician.
Learning to use the potty can be a frustrating experience for both child and parent or caregiver. One day it may look like the days of diapers will soon be over and the next day may be full of toilet accidents. This is normal. It takes a while for many children to be completely toilet trained.
