>> Laura: You have to remember, Ballard their last bucket was at the 3:44 mark in the second quarter.
They're in a drought and Glenwood will try to keep them on that drought.
>> B.J.
: The rebound comes down to Camden of Glenwood.
She's open for three.
>> Laura: She had the hot hand in the first half and got her open there.
Continue to see if she'll keep knocking them down.
>> B.J.
: Now from the corner, Loewe can't get it to fall.
Here comes Glenwood.
This is deflected away by LAL LARD.
Glenwood will hold the position.
>> Laura: Loewe gets back in defensive position, but right now it's the pace of Glenwood.
They're speeding up Ballard.
>> B.J.
: Rebound on the floor, and it will be tied up.
Possession arrow keeps it with Glenwood.
Little bit of smiles there for the scrum.
>> Laura: Usually those things don't end in smiles.
>> B.J.
: No.
Here's Hopp.
Matheny, and one.
The foul will be registered against Cassidy Thompson.
That will be her second.
>> Laura: Good dribble drive.
They kind of overloaded a little bit to the left side of the floor.
That allowed Matheny the driving lane to get it right through there and finish.
>> B.J.
: Loewe, Rietz and Thompson with two a piece.
Hillebrand comes into the game.
On the missed free throw, a foul will be called.
That is against Sidney Briggs, who also just checked into the game.
Hopp able to connect on the free throw.
It's a 7-point lead for the Rams.
>> Laura: Two points from the free throw line.
Two free points really for Glenwood.
>> B.J.
: If you're Ballard, how do you circle back.
Here's Ihle.
>> Laura: Continue to attack like that and that's what you want to do, but you can't rush the shot.
They're getting sped up.
They're playing a little quicker than they normally like to do.
That's all because Glenwood is doing that defensively.
Now they're starting to get into their mind and just the presence of the defense being in the area is causing them to miss shots.
>> B.J.
: Ihle with great muscle there to back up the ball.
>> Laura: Tried to work off a double high post to get Ihle the shot.
>> B.J.
: Can't get it to fall.
The rebound to Glenwood.
Glenwood with the three.
Hopp with the rebound.
Putback not there.
Ihle with the rebound.
She'll be tied up.
>> Laura: Ihle has been scrappy all over the boards.
She's gotten her hand in on pretty much everything that comes off the rim.
>> B.J.
: Ten rebounds for Molly Ihle.
Hasn't scored, but you're right, she hasn't been showing up on the stat sheet, but from a scrapping ability, she's all over it.
Here's Hopp.
Three off the mark and the rebound to Loewe.
Ballard in dire need of a bucket.
In the paint contact can't get the and one opportunity, but going to the line is Meg Rietz.
>> Laura: Good ball rotation by the Bombers as they were able to work the ball around and spread out the defense, open up that driving lane for Rietz.
>> B.J.
: Abby Hughes will check out.
Coming in is Brynlee Arnold.
8-point game.
Rietz's numbers on the season.
Able to connect on 1-2.
Still haven't scored a field goal now in nearly six minutes of play.
>> Laura: It's not that they haven't had the looks to knock the shots down.
>> B.J.
: Talking about a look, there's Madison Camden there.
>> B.J.
: Heating up again, comes back and finds the range.
Loewe's shot off the mark.
Hopp will have it nearly poked away.
Time-out taken by Glenwood.
With a 10-point lead the Rams gaining control of this game with 5:05 to play in the third quarter.
>> Laura: Got the double screen up top.
They were able to find Camden wide open and knocked it down.
When Brian Rasmussen got this job, came to Glenwood and they asked how many three-point shooters were on the team.
He said only a couple hands went up.
He said we're changing that.
Everyone is going to shoot three-pointers.
When you're out there on the floor, I don't want you shooting it all the time, but I want you to connect and be that threat.
After that, everybody came into practice.
They shoot a lot of three-pointers.
They've become very efficient at shooting the distance ball.
>> B.J.
: This is interesting.
Glenwood spreading the floor as they try and get Hopp.
This is turned over.
Loewe ends up with it for the Bombers.
Ihle thought about the three.
The drive, and finish.
She'll go to the line for the three-point play.
Laura, that snaps a long cold streak for Kelly Anderson and his Bombers.
>> Laura: She's sliced in there several times and not finished.
Great ball fake.
Got the defender out of position and drives between two defenders and draws the foul.
>> B.J.
: Minnesota state recruit.
It's down to a 7-point lead for Glenwood.
Scarborough trying to pivot out of it.
Now to Hopp.
In the paint, the rebound, Hopp can't get the putback.
This is going to be tied up.
Possession arrow gives it to Ballard.
>> Laura: Hopp didn't give up on it and rebounded it while sitting on the floor after the scrum for the loose ball.
>> B.J.
: Madison Camden leading the way with 17 points for Glenwood.
Brock Loewe scored 10 in the first nine minutes, but has been scoreless since.
That was a foul you could here from way over here.
>> Laura: You could hear that across the state.
>> B.J.
: Jenna Hopp with the slap and that puts Ballard at the line.
>> Laura: That's going to be her third foul.
She's got to be Smart the rest of the way.
>> B.J.
: Unable to connect on the free throw.
74% free throw shooter on the season and Ballard having to earn every point here.
They've been out scored so far by three at 7-4.
They can't get free throws here.
Stepping on the sideline was Glenwood as Ballard is starting to crank up the pressure T. >> Laura: That's what they rely on.
Now they're getting back to their principles of winning games by using their defense.
Kind of got away from that.
>> B.J.
: Ballard goes back to the line again.
They are attacking, attacking.
This foul called on Emma Hughes, her first.
To the line we go with Josie Fleischmann.
Scored 10 points in the semi-finals.
Able to knock this one down.
Ballard starting to inch their way closer, the lead down to 6.
>> Laura: This kind of methodically making their way back in this ball game.
Arnold has great position down low.
She was posting up against Cassidy Thompson.
>> B.J.
: This is off the support system.
Ballard forces the turnover.
It's in ninth turnover by Glenwood.
The Rams go back to their bench.
Abby Hughes checks back in.
>> Laura: You can see a little coaching going on there, some frustration.
Good job of trying to calm down a player.
You can see maybe a few tears coming to the eyes over the mistake.
You can't have that.
You have to have those players as you continue on in the ball game.
Nice job by coach Rasmussen to settle down Hughes.
>> B.J.
: That's the third foul on Brynlee Arnold.
Fouls starting to mount against Glenwood here.
On the perimeter Ballard again will attack.
Another foul as Ballard continues to go right at Arnold.
That will be her fourth.
>> Laura: She's going to the official and asking about it.
He said I'm not the one that made the call.
She wants to know exactly what she did.
I don't know if we'll have a shot of that and see if she dipped her hands or got it with the body.
Either way she's got foul number four.
>> B.J.
: Ballard has gone cold from the foul line.
They're now 4-10 for the game.
>> Laura: On the season they're 74% free throw shooting.
>> B.J.
: Rietz able to knock down 1-2 on this trip.
It's a 5-point lead.
Glenwood hot with the three.
Left it short.
Rebound to Ihle.
The Bombers to the corner for three.
Left short.
Glenwood will get the rebound eventually.
Rams trying to work it on the perimeter.
This game starting to tighten up a little bit.
>> Laura: You get to this point, you're halfway through the third quarter and it's a tight game.
Now you sometimes start thinking about things a little bit, more than just playing the game.
>> B.J.
: 4A championship game.
Glenwood with the advantage by 5.
>> Laura: This is the longest Glenwood has held the ball in possession.
>> B.J.
: Hopp has it deflected away.
It's tied up.
>> Laura: Rietz was sneaking in from behind as Hopp turns her back.
You do that and those guards see that, they can come in and pick your pocket.
>> B.J.
: Scarborough looked to put it in play into the corner.
Ballard with some quick hands.
The turnover.
Ihle into the corner, the three, Fleischmann, no.
A foul on the rebound.
I believe this is against Thompson.
That's a big foul too for Ballard.
That will be her third.
>> Laura: They had the shot.
They had the open look at the three-pointer.
Came up short.
Thompson trying to battle Hopp for rebounding possession and picks up the foul.
She'll have to sit.
>> B.J.
: Wuestenberg comes in for her.
Ballard getting their game on the court after falling down by as many as 10.
Hopp on the perimeter trying to attack baseline.
It's off the knee of Ihle.
It will stay with Glenwood with 1:40 to play in the third.
>> Laura: They continue to try to pound the baseline drive.
Ballard doing a good job of sliding over, getting a foot on the baseline.
>> B.J.
: There's going to be a foul on the drive.
That is going to be the fourth team foul on Ballard.
Fleischmann will pick up her first.
She has 10.
Loewe has 10.
This is going to be kicked.
Glenwood will have to redo it from the baseline.
Scarborough will put it in play.
Underneath the lay-up good-bye Matheny.
>> Laura: Great job of screening.
>> B.J.
: That's the first basket in a while for Glenwood.
Now to the corner.
Loewe for three.
Left it short.
The rebound to Hopp.
Here comes Glenwood with 1:10 to play in the third quarter.
Travel called against Glenwood.
11th turnover by the Rams.
>> Laura: Continuing to drive from the right side baseline.
They see an opening there.
It's quickly closed up.
>> B.J.
: Here's Ihle in the paint.
Lost control of it and it will be turned over to Glenwood.
>> Laura: A rash of turnovers on both ends right now.
We've seen a little bit of everything here in the third quarter.
>> B.J.
: Inside of 54 seconds to play in the quarter.
A 7-point lead for Glenwood.
Ballard had it trimmed down to 5.
Scarborough on the outside looking to go in to Hopp who is posting up strong.
This ball on the deck.
Loewe up with the turnover.
Numbers for Ballard.
They can't get it.
Wuestenberg follow up not there.
Ihle in the paint.
Can't get the lay-up.
>> Laura: Breathing a sigh of relief is Glenwood.
Lots of contact as Camden comes up with the ball.
Into the paint draws contact.
Meg Rietz picks up the foul.
That's her third.
Ballard in the bonus the rest of the way, as will Glenwood be.
Here's Madison Camden.
Cool and composed is the junior at the line.
84% on the season.
Knocks down the first one.
She's got 18 for the game.
>> Laura: She has a season high of 26.
She's looking at maybe eclipsing that with a big fourth quarter.
>> B.J.
: Ballard going to hold for one here.
Down by 9.
Here's Loewe in the paint.
Short jumper.
Can't get it to roll through.
The rebound to Hopp.
That will be it for the third quarter.
Glenwood has a 9-point lead.
Ballard, can they storm back or will Glenwood hold on for their school's first ever state championship?
Find out when we return on Iowa PBS.
>> B.J.
: Glenwood here with the lead over Ballard.
More titles to be awarded today.
Coming up next at 4:00 and then the night cap in the rematch.
Earlier today it was Unity Christian for the 3A title.
Here's the third championship game.
It's in class 4A.
Loewe will try to bring her Bombers back.
The lay-up good.
>> Laura: Boy, she did that too and had to peek over her shoulder to see who was closing in on her.
Glenwood went for the steal.
She realized I've got numbers and can take it to the hoop.
>> B.J.
: Ballard needs stops.
They get one here.
Loewe quick hands.
They've got numbers.
Loewe to the rack.
>> Laura: Two quick buckets for Ballard gets them that much closer.
It all started with their defense on that last possession.
>> B.J.
: 5-point game.
Here Hopp.
Gets her own rebound and putback.
How about that for the sophomore?
>> Laura: She never gives up on it.
She hangs and gets the rebound.
>> B.J.
: And the rebound for Ballard knocking it down.
>> Laura: They had numbers.
What a shot there by Hughes.
>> B.J.
: The and one.
Are you not entertained?
Abby Hughes.
>> Laura: Just when Ballard comes a little bit closer, look at that.
The hammer on the arm by Fleischmann and Hughes able to follow through, keep her concentration and get it to go.
>> B.J.
: The possession before that Fleischmann able to knock down the three.
The time-out taken by Ballard.
It's book to a 6-point game with 6:38 to play.
What do the bombers need to do to get within a single possession?
>> Laura: Again, it's defense for Ballard.
They've shown that here the last few possessions.
They've been able to pick it up a notch.
Then they're knocking down shots now.
They didn't in the second quarter and third quarter.
Now they're finding the mark again and getting confidence.
Glenwood just needs to continue to pound the ball inside and, if they collapse down defensively, kick it out to the three-point shooters.
Glenwood likes to shoot a lot of threes.
They average about 25 attempts a game.
>> B.J.
: Look at the state map, how did they get here.
Glenwood, had to go 146 miles to get to Des Moines.
Ballard is Cambridge, Huxley and slater.
They didn't have to go too far.
They're providing us an entertaining game here.
It's a 6-point lead for Glenwood and you take a look at it, Madison Camden leading the way with 19, Laura.
13 for Jenna Hopp.
Loewe with 15.
Fleischmann with 14 and the lead back to 7.
Ballard being very resilient.
They said they were on a mission.
The senior class has played together for a long time.
A mission to when a championship.
They're down by 7.
What can they do to get back into it?
Rietz on the drive and finishes with the left hand.
>> Laura: The slimmest of Allies to slice through and they do it.
>> B.J.
: Fans couldn't attend games like they normally would during the high school basketball season.
They play an entertaining style.
They have one of the highest viewerships of online games in the state.
They get up and down the floor and shoot, especially this one right here.
Left short this time by Camden.
>> Laura: Who doesn't like scoring?
They average 72 points a game on the season.
Who wouldn't want to tune in and watch that kind of a game?
>> B.J.
: The kickout.
Rietz and it will be out of bounds.
Still a 5-point game with 5:19 to play.
>> Laura: I don't think Glenwood is the type of team to take time off the clock.
Sometimes a team that plays up tempo like that and they go into slowdown mode, that's not the recipe for success.
It always allows the opponent to climb back into the ball game.
You'll see Glenwood run the offense the way they normally do.
>> B.J.
: Running and gunning and Matheny will go to the line.
>> Laura: Got up a little high defensively.
Trying to force it up to the half court line.
Matheny able to beat her defender, got a nice pass.
>> B.J.
: Matheny's numbers here tonight.
That foul is going to put Cassidy Thompson on the bench.
She's got four.
Glenwood extends their lead to 6.
That one out, but Ihle with another rebound.
She's got 13 here on this afternoon.
Here's Rietz on the drive.
Can't get the lay-up to fall.
Hopp with some pretty good defense there.
Then the drive and finish off the mark.
It's going to be tied up.
Glenwood will have the possession here.
We'll do a game reset here as we take a look at it.
Glenwood with the advantage here.
They have three time-outs remaining.
Ballard with two.
Possession arrow in favor of the Bombers.
Inside of five to play.
Here's the skip pass over the top.
Glenwood starting to slow this down and be patient offensively.
>> Laura: It's not their DNA to do it that way, but might as well melt a little of the time off the clock until you get that high percentage shot.
Ballard has to come out a little more aggressive to force them into motion.
>> B.J.
: Scarborough, playing a little triangle game out front.
Scarborough for three.
Off the mark and the rebound to Loewe.
>> Laura: Loewe showing off good ball handling skills.
>> B.J.
: Here's Ihle and the fall called on the floor.
Each team solid into the bonus.
>> Laura: Coach Anderson said when Molly Ihle was a freshman they went to a basketball camp over in Carol.
It was to prove to the rest of the team she was going to be the point guard after the future.
After a game or so, everybody said, yeah, she's going to be our point guard.
She's cemented that role and trying to finish it off with a championship.
>> B.J.
: Ihle with 3, but 13 rebounds and a lot of skin left on the floor.
She's been all over it tonight, diving for loose balls.
Still a two-possession game here with 3:20 to play.
A time-out taken by Glenwood.
>> Laura: They're going to talk about being patient, being Smart with the basketball.
>> B.J.
: We'll take a time-out with them as you're watching the 4A championship game on PBS.
>> B.J.
: Here we go, 3:19 to play.
Each team with two time-outs remaining.
Glenwood holding on to the 4-point lead and the ball right now.
They've got their starting five on the floor.
Hopp, Matheny, Hughes, Camden and Scarborough as the Rams go to work here.
What do you think was talked about in that time-out by Brian Rasmussen?
>> Laura: Just what we're seeing, spread the floor.
If you don't have an easy shot at the basket, a lay-up, then kick it back out.
Let's run a little clock.
>> B.J.
: Here's the drive by Hopp and will go to the line to shoot two.
>> Laura: See the good dribble drive with the left hand trying to get the and one situation.
Couldn't connect, but gets to go to the line.
>> B.J.
: First free throw.
Left it short.
>> Laura: Normally a 74% free throw shooter.
Left that off the front of the rim.
>> B.J.
: Cans the next one.
Jenna Hopp with a double-double today.
14 points, 11 rebound so far.
Big possession here for the Bombers as they try to go against the zone.
Loewe in the paint.
Gets the lay-up.
Laura, it is a one-possession game and it's time-out taken here with 2:24 to play.
>> Laura: Loewe did such a great job with body control and knocking that shot down.
>> B.J.
: Here we go.
43-40.
2:24 to play.
Glenwood with the advantage on Ballard.
Glenwood will have the ball.
Pressure is going to be applied.
Full court here by Ballard.
Each team into the bonus, single bonus.
Scarborough will have it up top.
They'll set the play.
It's going to be tied up.
Loewe able to get her hands in there.
Possession arrow gives it to Ballard with an opportunity to tie it or pull within one here.
>> Laura: A big turnover.
Smart play by Loewe as the ball went into the high post.
Loewe just jumped on it.
>> B.J.
: In the first half Ballard had a 9-point lead erased by Glenwood.
Glenwood held a 10-point lead.
Ballard trying to go for the tie.
They got it!
>> Laura: Skip pass.
Draw the defense.
Kick it out to the three-point shooter.
>> B.J.
: Now the drive and going to the line right away is going to be Coryl Matheny.
Glenwood say, okay, let's play our game and attack.
>> Laura: Don't let the defense set up.
They hustled the ball inbounds and got on the run.
There's a good look at the skip passover to Fleischmann who knocked down a big jumper to tie it up.
>> B.J.
: Fleischmann now with 16 in the title game.
16 for Loewe.
Checking out of the game will be Meg Rietz who will foul out.
Rietz will check out with 4 points scored today.
A missed free throw by Matheny.
He's now 1-4 from the line.
>> Laura: That's two players Ballard has lost to fouls.
Cassidy Thompson and now Meg Rietz.
>> B.J.
: The next free throw good.
It's a 1-point lead for Glenwood.
1:35 to play.
Here's Fleischmann to Ihle.
>> Laura: Ballard has had success with the dribble drive and kick.
>> B.J.
: Ihle off on to the wing to Loewe.
Loewe on the drive.
Can't get it to fall.
The rebound to Glenwood.
In backcourt to Hughes who is being double teamed.
Now a time-out taken here by Glenwood.
Time-out for the Rams, they're left with one remaining.
1:12 to play.
It's a 1-point game.
Are you kidding me?
What a championship game.
>> Laura: Ballard has come to life in the fourth quarter.
16 points and they've climbed back into this.
Now they'll have to play a little defense.
That's what they've done all season long is play defense.
They're comfortable in this position, trying to get the turnover and the steal.
>> B.J.
: Glenwood will have the possession arrow.
The next foul by Ballard will put Glenwood at the line to shoot two.
Single bonus still for Ballard as Glenwood just has 17 fouls in the late half.
>> Laura: It's going to come down to taking care of the basketball for Glenwood, making free throws if you get fouled.
For Ballard you have to go back to your fundamentals of defense.
Maybe gamble a little bit.
Try to speed Glenwood up and get the ball in your possession.
>> B.J.
: Two Bombers have fouled out.
Meg Rietz and Cassidy Thompson.
Everybody here at Wells Fargo arena up on their feet.
Glenwood will put it in play in the backcourt to Scarborough.
Here's Camden and she'll be fouled up top by Sidney Briggs the senior.
Going to the line will be Madison Camden.
She's got 19 on the day.
Nothing has been easy at the foul line today for either team.
>> Laura: No, it hasn't.
One thing that we've seen a lot of in this state tournament, as Camden knocks down the first one, is a lot of offensive rebounds given up.
If you're Ballard you need to box out if this comes off the rim to have a chance.
>> B.J.
: Camden with 20.
The rebound down to Loewe.
Here come the Bombers.
Inside of 50 seconds to play.
They try for the skip pass up top.
Thrown away by Hopp.
Ballard gets the possession back.
Time-out taken by Kelly Anderson.
That's the final time-out for Ballard.
46 seconds to play.
45-43.
If you're the Bombers, how do you design the play?
>> Laura: Do you want to go for the win or the tie?
That's the first thing.
Do you want to do it at the buzzer get the bucket and tie it up or go into the lead and then go back and play defense?
That's what has been their forte all season long.
I don't know if they're going to go for a quick hitter or hold the ball and try to get the last shot.
>> B.J.
: Every coach has an inbounds play designed for moments like this.
It's your best inbounds play of the season.
For Ballard, let's see what Kelly Anderson has designed for his team and how they execute on it.
This is the 4A championship state game.
Glenwood the top seed.
Ballard the number two seed.
It's lived up to the billing.
Each team had sizeable leads.
Been tied down the stretch.
Glenwood with the 2-point lead.
Each team into the bonus.
>> Laura: No time-outs left.
You have to get it inbounds here.
>> B.J.
: Loewe from the Ballard bench looks to throw it into Ihle and does.
From the sideline, not under the basket and Fleischmann with the deep three, she got it.
>> Laura: You could see the double high post up top.
It was a deep three clutch three.
>> B.J.
: A 1-point lead for Ballard.
Here come the Rams.
They're going to burn their final time-out.
>> Laura: You could see the double post up top.
Defense was a little late coming out.
What a huge bucket for Josie Fleischmann.
>> B.J.
: Fleischmann with 19 to lead.
If you're Glenwood who gets the ball?
Who gets the shot with 24 to play?
>> Laura: Well, Camden has been quiet for a while.
Do you go to her?
Everybody's eyes are going to be on Jenna Hopp and figure she tries to take it to the hoop.
You can see her do that and kick out to one of the shooters on the perimeter.
Do you do it quickly and leave time on the clock or do you wind the clock down and try to score at the buzzer?
>> B.J.
: What a championship.
How you're enjoying it on Iowa PBS.
Class 2A championship game getting ready to start.
Get it into the backcourt.
Here's Hughes.
Here's Hopp at the high post.
Ihle backs her in.
The jumper no good.
Rebound and the fade away jumper short.
Hopp tries to get the rebound.
Hopp's foot was on the baseline.
Ballard gets it back with 6.4 to play.
>> Laura: Couple of opportunities.
You could see Hopp rolls right over the top of the ball.
She's out of bounds.
They're going to have to foul quickly here.
>> B.J.
: See if Ballard can get it in.
It's defended and a quick foul puts the Bombers at the line.
7-13 from the line is Ballard.
>> Laura: There's lots of time to get the ball down the court, even if she makes both of these.
You have time to get the ball down the court to get a good look at a three.
>> B.J.
: And hits the first one.
Ballard coming back from 10 down with 5:35 to play in the fourth quarter.
Ihle's next one not there.
In a hurry.
Here's Scarborough.
Gets it up.
Here's the shot at the horn.
Off the mark and Ballard is your class 4A state champion.
Ballard never got away from their game and they take one against Glenwood in the final moments of this one.
What a championship game.
>> Laura: I tell you, one of the keys we talked about was single digit quarters.
They only had two single digit quarters.
They gave up six in the first to Glenwood and nine in the fourth while scoring 20 points of their own for the big comeback.
What execution on that final play to get the three-point bucket at the end.
>> B.J.
: They win their school's second state championship.
First since 2009.
The t-shirts are coming out.
For Glenwood, what a run, but just coming up short.
>> Announcer: Class 4A all tournament team.

: What an all tournament team.
Molly Ihle named the all tournament team captain.
Folks, she did it off the glass, with her defense and that's Ballard's game all year.
What an all tournament team that is right there.
>> Laura: That is an outstanding group of athletes and basketball players that perform very well on the big stage.
Quite an ending to this ball game.
It was exciting and quite a comeback for Ballard.
>> B.J.
: 47-45 the final in the 4A championship.
Now it's time to hand out the hardware.
