If I had feet, they wouldn't be touching the ground.

Not since I met Barbara, the belle of bells.

I'm looking for words to describe the way I feel.

I am happy, nervous, excited, giddy!

(laughs) Estoy muy feliz.

Could this be...love?

Oh, forgive me, I'm also distracted.

I almost forgot to send you to your first class.

Go down the long hallway and turn right at the blue door.

That's Miss Basia's classroom.

She's got a terrific story for you.

(chuckles) I'm Miss Basia.

Just looking at the weather report for this week.

Today (ding!)

is sunny and warm.

(ding!)

Tomorrow, it looks like it's gonna be windy and chilly.

[wind whistling] Then on Wednesday, (ding!)

it's gonna be cloudy and cold.

[wind whistling] Brr!

Oh!

And, oh-ho!

The next day, (ding!)

it's gonna be rainy and wet.

But, on Friday, (ding!)

it will clear up with blue skies and the weekend will be beautiful outside.

These are words that describe the weather: sunny, warm, windy, chilly, cloudy, cold, rainy, wet, blue, beautiful.

They're called "adjectives."

Adjectives don't just describe weather.

They describe everything.

An adjective is a word that explains an animal, a person, a place, thing, even a thought or a feeling.

Let's practice using adjectives in a sentence.

I'll describe myself.

My name is Miss Basia.

I'm a nice teacher.

I'm smart.

I have red hair, and I'm wearing a purple shirt.

I love to play with my furry little rabbit and eat yummy desserts!

♪ Did you find the adjectives?

Nice, smart, red, purple, furry, little, and yummy.

Can you think of an adjective that describes you?

Words like tall, funny, shy, creative, friendly, smart, athletic, kind, tidy, sloppy, energetic, organized-- are just some of the adjectives that could describe you.

Today's story, "Geraldine the Giraffe", written by Pat Snyder, with pictures by Martin Bonde, is filled with adjectives.

Let's read, and notice how many we can find.

(reads) "G is for Geraldine the Giraffe.

"She lives in Africa.

"Giraffes are the tallest animals in the world!

"Geraldine has a very long neck.

"It helps to reach the tasty leaves "at the tops of tall trees.

"Her tongue is long, too.

"It is so long "that she can clean her ears with it.

"Geraldine has a large appetite.

"She can eat 75 pounds of leaves each day.

"That's like eating 300 hamburgers!

"Geraldine's fur is light with dark spots.

"The other giraffes have dark spots, too.

"But, no two giraffes have spots in the same pattern.

"Geraldine looks around.

"She has excellent eyesight.

"Geraldine sees the familiar pattern "of spots on her mother's fur.

Geraldine is happy."

Adjectives are awesome!

Hey, "awesome" is an adjective!

How cool is that?

Yep, "cool" is also an adjective!

Oh, I just love adjectives!

You're really pretty (scribbling sounds) and you're smelly, too!

But it's a good smell, you know, like flowers, like roses and violets.

Aren't violets more of a violet color, and not exactly blue?

Otherwise they wouldn't be called violets.

Anyway, I think you're neat-o and I'm wondering if you'd like to go on a date with me to a fancy restaurant.

Arrgh!

(paper crinkling) I'm out of my element here.

Oops, I did it again.

Me olvidé.

I forgot to tell you what class is next!

That means it's a verb, not an adjective.

It's a noun.

Remember, an adjective is a word that describes something.

So, it's an adjective.

Meanwhile, I've got to brush up on my adjectives to describe the bell of my dreams!

I'm an animal lover and I'm an adjective lover.

So, I thought it would be neat to research animals and also find adjectives that describe them.

♪ I see a fat, [cat meows] fluffy cat.

♪ A huge, gray elephant.

[elephant trumpeting] ♪ Oh, a cute, little baby chick.

[chirping] ♪ A small, brown squirrel.

[squirrel squeaking] ♪ A fast, strong horse.

[horse whinnies] [galloping sounds] ♪ A tired, lazy dog.

[dog barking] ♪ A fuzzy, adorable koala bear.

♪ A colorful, beautiful bird.

[flapping sounds] ♪ A round, prickly puffer fish.

[water bubbling sounds] See how adjectives do such a great job of describing things?

I want you to look, listen, and feel around you right now, and notice how many adjectives you can find to describe what you feel, what you see, and what you hear.

(bell ringing) (chuckles) I heard that bell and it was loud!

Yep, yep!

"Loud" is an adjective!

(playful horn honking) (bell ringing) - [Barry] Instead of writing a love letter, I'm going to give Barbara the Bell a call en el tele-fo-no!

Every day, everywhere that you go, notice what you see, hear, smell, taste, touch, and feel.

Think of adjectives that describe all those things!

When you're talking to your friends, family, try to pick out the adjectives that you say, or hear.

I'm talking ¡día perfecto!

There aren't enough adjectives in the world to describe the way I feel.

It might sound mushy, but I'm in love with a beautiful bell named...Barbara!

(playful horn honking) - [Eddie] Barry sure is happy, and I'm happy too, because I'm back in my favorite spot.

And now, I'm noticing all the adjectives.

I'm reading an interesting book for my homework, I see blue skies and puffy, white clouds.

I'm sitting on the green grass and I can feel the warm sun and the cool breeze.

Ahh!

Me voy a describirme a mí mismo: Mi nombre es, el Señor Leo.

Soy un buen maestro, y muy agradable.

Soy inteligente.

Soy fuerte y tengo una camisa azul.

Me encanta jugar con mi perrito chiquito, y me gusta comer postres, deliciosos.

¿Encontraste los adjetivos?

Fueron: agradable, inteligente, fuerte, azul, chiquito, y deliciosos.

¿Puedes usar unos adjetivos que explican cómo eres tú?

Palabras como alto o alta, divertido, tímido, creativo, amistoso, inteligente, fuerte, amable, ordenado, descuidado, organizado, y ¡travieso!
