OnQ does recognize Halloween, and we have a ghost story to tell you.

A great one, as a matter of fact!

It takes place at an historic amusement park north of Pittsburgh.

OnQ, contributor Phil Harris reports on the park and the rumors of a haunted hotel.

[Music Plays] Of the dozen hotels that once surrounded Conneaut Lake only Hotel Conneaut, it remains, though a seasonal hotel.

There are rumors of some guests that never leave [Phone Ringing] Hotel Conneaut!

But it was just so weird.

There was nothing tripping me.

I do, I do, I do believe in ghosts, I do.

[Laughs] University of Pittsburgh student Carrie Pavlik has worked summers at the hotel for the past four years.

And what burned down was over here and back.

There was another wing.

Okay, so that's what we're done.

And this parts from 1903, and this wing is from 1892.

And this is where I think it's kind of the creepiest.

And all the psychics agree that there's just weird vibes in a small way.

This is supposedly Elizabeth's room.

Elizabeth is one of the hotel's most famous spirits.

Many believed that she died here in the 1943 fire, the night before her wedding.

All right now we're.

I guess we can head down this way.

Down here is the laundry room, and the stairway is kind of creepy.

And this is where some people pick up the little girl, the tricycle and these stairs.

I have to go there and I had to get towels.

Its scary!

And out here is the tree where the soldier is supposed to show up right there.

And several people have seen him since the Civil War.

Soldier who has a lantern.

While images of ghosts in popular media often take on familiar and sometimes frightening form for the ghost hunter armed with digital camera, it is the coveted orb that is evidence of the other side.

This is the room thats haunted!

When you can see you picking up orbs like crazy here.

This is the TV lounge.

This is where John is supposed to show up in photos, although I've never actually seen one of these photos.

So we kind of said, this is where John is.

Whenever the psychics come, they always tell me that John really likes me, and John is always standing right next to me whenever I'm here.

I don't know, he likes me or something.

Yeah!

So it was my last day for the year.

So I was walking by the TV room.

I said, see you, John.

And something just like yeah, yeah, it was, it was hard.

It was like Reagan smiling.

I took a picture prior to that.

Yeah, you can see it.

You can right above that figurine.

That's John.

Right, right here.

And there are other ghosts over 100 years old.

Conneaut Lake Park, where Hotel Conneaut it sits, has been struggling financially and in the last 25 years has been living in its own shadow.

30 years ago, the park was doing very well.

In the 80s they started to have problems keeping it popular with the economy, and people were just looking for larger, more fantastic sort of amazement parks and started to forget about places they grew up with.

Conneaut Lake Park Costello fell in love with Conneaut Lake Park while in junior high school.

Here's the 1910 carousel building.

The bumper cars.

This been here since the 30s.

This park is very unique because it offers a beautiful lake.

Largest natural lake in Pennsylvania.

It offers vintage amusement rides and the cost?

It's one of the most affordable family vacations you'll find anywhere.

Parks heyday was probably in 60s, 70s, early 80s.

This is the time where it attracted over 300,000 a year, 300,000 a season.

Park was booming then.

Now the park is $2 million in debt.

The park is owned by the people of western Pennsylvania.

It's operated as a not for profit public trust.

Costello is donating all profits from his book to keeping the park open.

In fact, this weekend at the annual Psychic Fair, everyone is donating their time and money to keep Conneaut Lake Park alive.

Growing up here, do you ever aware of the stories of the ghosts of Conneaut?

Oh, yeah!

Really?

Yeah.

You know, Conneaut Lake Hotel.

So you wanted, you know.

Mary, Glenn When you were growing up here, did you spend a lot of time in park?

All the time!

Every chance I could.

And every Wednesday and Saturday I hit the ferry boat and came across for the park dance.

Every time someone came up from Pittsburgh, it was Conneaut Lake Park.

It was always a big thing.

My grandma miller, she used to bring my father and his brothers when they were little.

It was way, way back from my children here and hope to bring my granddaughter here, you know, to ride the rides and enjoy them.

With so many people working together in this world and the next.

Maybe there's more history yet to be written for Hote Conneaut and Conneaut Lake Park.

This is the part that refuses to die because too many people love it.
