Today, we're gonna practice writing our name.

We sang it in Hickety Pickety Bumblebee.
That's right.
My name is Jody.
Could you possibly help me stretch out those sounds in my name?
J, O, D, E. I have four sounds in my name.
So I'm gonna write the word Jody.
You're gonna write your name, and then we'll get ready to draw a picture.
Let's try it.
The first sound in my name was the sound J.
Do you remember what letter makes that sound?
You're right.
It is, it's the letter J.
Whenever we write our names, we write our names starting with an uppercase letter.
So my J needs to be an uppercase J.
Make sure you start your name with an uppercase letter too.
To make an uppercase J, I start at the top, I do a big line down, and curve around.
There's my J.
The next sound in my name is O.
What letter do you think makes that sound?
You're right.
It's the letter O.
We need to make sure it's lowercase.
Around like a C, and close it up, O. J, O, D. D is the next letter sound.
What letter makes that sound?
You're right, it's the letter D. Watch me make a lowercase D. Curve around like a C, close it up, and a big line down.
There's my D. Jo, D, E is the sound that comes at the end of my name, but I know in my name, the letter Y is making that E sound.
So watch me make a lowercase Y to finish my name.
I start in the middle, with a little diagonal line down to the bottom.
Then I come over to the side, and I do a diagonal line down, and into the basement.
There's my name.
Jody.
Let's read our sentence again.
And then we'll count how many words.
My name is Jody.
Count with me.
One, two, three, four.
I have four words in my sentence, and you should have four words in your sentence too.
Notice at the end of our sentence, we have a period.
That tells us that that is the end of the sentence.
It's punctuation mark, a period.
Can you say period?
Great work with your sentence today.
Now we can draw a picture to match our words.
What do you think I should draw?
That's right, I should draw a picture of myself.
We call that a self-portrait.
So I need to draw me.
Let's see.
I can always use shapes to help me draw.
And I found these really cool markers that are different skin tones.
Can you help me pick one?
Which one do you think matches?
I think I'll use this one.
This matches the best.
I love how everybody's skin tone is different.
That makes us special.
To make my head and my face, I'm gonna use this marker, and I'm gonna draw an oval.
That is looking great.
I'll even draw a little neckline coming down.
That's my neck.
I do that by making kind of like a little rectangle.
There's my head, and my neck.
My eyes are blue, so I'll use my blue marker to draw my eyes.
Think about what shape you should use.
Here's my blue eyes, one and two.
Great.
I'm forgetting a few things.
What could I be forgetting?
My nose and my mouth.
Be sure to add those.
There's my self-portrait, a picture of me with the right hair color, and skin color, and eye color.
