pleasure Lieutenant L Ro nice to meet you the kishion kids Eva hi what's your name pepper pepp hi what's your name nice to meet you Elliot this is our engine engine 72 as you can see in the front of our truck we have hoses and we also have hoses here in the middle of the truck we have hoses in the back of the truck and the reason you say but why so much hose well sometimes the fire hydrant is not close to the house or the building that's on fire so we need to have enough hose to allow us to do that as you can see there's more hes in the back oh look at look at all those look at all the hes wow all different colors all different sizes and depending on their color and size they have specific jobs we got to see the fire hoses in action water water water water ready and we're going to point at the lake ready to fire fire let's see more of the fire engine and look for some words we are going to go on a word hunt on the fire engine so what I want you to do is use your eyes and look for letters letters create words are you ready yeah okay you go first what can you see I can see the word fire fire f i r e good job rescue that's right good job let's spell it together ready r e s c u e what does the word rescue mean what it means to save someone to save someone you're rescuing so obviously this is fire rescue so what does this engine do fire rescue so this is where the firefighter sits so everybody has a specific seat right so firefighters sit in the back who's ready to see the inside of the fire engine perfect grab here there we go all right Elliot let's see what's inside here oo this is nice now that we're inside the fire truck this is very cool can you tell us a little bit about the equipment that's in here absolutely so let's start off with the basic stuff so you can see that we have headsets right now the headsets help us communicate with the members of the crew while we're responding to a call CU it's very hard to listen to each other while there's lights and sirens and you can speak through a microphone can speak through there well that's great and not only do we have that but let's talk about the other equipment if we have a fire we keep our fire gear in here right we also have our breathing bottles here as you can see that we wear that with a mask right because in fires we need to breathe clean air yes right so as we're approaching the emergency we take we we'll take the headset off and then we'll finish Dawning the rest of our our equipment who wants to drive the fire engine me W quite a question let's give it a try so just how we got down backwards we go up there you go Eva Safety First job absolutely and of course every fire truck needs a siren so cars know to get out of the way and now you're ready to save lives now that we saw a fire engine let's explore the fire [Music] station so you're a firefighter here at the station yes and where are we I'd like to know a little bit more about the station itself what rooms are in the the station and what you do in each room so right now currently we're in the bay this is where we keep our fire trucks and where we respond from so we spend 24 hours a day here which we come in at 8: a.m. and we leave the next morning at 8:00 a.m. when our relief crew comes in do you have an exercise room here yes we have a gym that we have all our different pieces of equipment to keep us in shape keep our vascular system in tiptop shape so we can respond to calls how about relax uh we have a day room we do uh relaxing in the evenings much like when you're at home we watch TV we'll do training in there so watch some training videos but if you're here for 24 hours do you have beds that you get to sleep in each person has their own individual bed much like when you're at home you have your own bed we have the same thing here at night when we are sleeping there are tones that go off and a light that blinks to make sure that we wake up for our calls and I have one really important question do you have have a fire pole here of course we have a fire pole what Firehouse doesn't have a fire pole I want to see it yes can you go down it yes I'll go down it all right let's do it fire Poes help firefighters respond quickly it is important to get to an emergency as fast as possible they even get their gear on quickly Peter Le will show you the way he Dawns his gear we call it Dawning Dawning right so first he's going to put on his bottoms and his hood that no mix Hood he's wearing covers his ears his neck areas around his face from getting blisters but as I said they have to get ready fast firefighters need to make sure they're completely covered up to protect themselves from fire and dangerous Vapors firefighters might look a little scary when they're in their gear but if you're in a dangerous situation and you see a fight firefighter remember they're there to help you and you don't have to be afraid firefighters wear lots of gear to protect themselves from fire but do you know what to do if you are on fire what I'd really like to teach the kids is about fire safety about what to do if they get caught in a fire so these two skills are important the first one is staying low for two reasons you want to stay cool and you guys want to make sure you have you're able to see right so firefighter mesh is going to demonstrate how we stay low and crawl he's almost flat staying as low as possible to stay as cool as possible you guys want to try it out yes we do all right we'll have one at a time okay ready we can do Follow the Leader Follow the Leader there we go there we go good job get nice and great crawl good job Elliot there you go Elliot there you go Elliot nice and low there we go go pepper yeah good form pepper good job guys did great good job so if there's a fire and you see a lot of smoke what should you do should good job what if we have fire on us what do we do should we stop dropping roll yes and I'm going to have firefighter patrelli show you how to do that so he's going to get down cover his face and he's going to roll and he's going to roll back to his right and what that do he'll try to smother the Flames to try to put it out stop drop cover your face straight and roll good job roll to the other side and roll to the other side wow nice good job excellent so we're going to stop stop we're going to drop drop lay flat right cover our faces and we're going to roll roll roll roll parents and teachers it's also important for adults to remember to crawl and to stop drop and roll perfect I loved learning about the fire station fire engines putting out fires and fire safety but I have one more important question what's your favorite part of being a firefighter well honestly my favorite part is trying to uh make make a difference in our community you know helping uh kids helping the elderly the young everyone the dogs the kittens in the trees my friends and I want to thank you for visiting us at our firehouse and we want to let you know that you've become honorary firemen of the sunrise fire department thank you so much for a wonderful day learning about the fire station today it was awesome everyone say thank you thank you [Applause] [Music] bye
