to introduce ourselves putting our hand down low so they can smell us and then that's how we say hello what's a way that we can say hello when we meet somebody in person when you meet a friend shake their hand hi nice to meet you Edwin sand sander nice to meet you so we're going to do the same with Crystal we're going to go ahead and meet one of our horses when you introduce yourself you go ahead and bring your hand down low and say hello so she can meet us there you go nice to meet you the horses can tell you how they feel with their ears they give a sign so this is how horses can communicate horses communicate with their ears or she's paying attention and she's uh looking at us there you go her ears are going to be pointing to the sides or forward or maybe at us and and that means she's engaged and she's listening to us but they can move their ears in different directions yeah they can move them back they can move them back also when they do move them back how when they put him back like this and you see the horse that she brings back her ears it means that she's feeling uncomfortable or she might be uh angry or upset so when a horse pins back the ears and n and pins back the ears that means watch out okay this is called a stall and this is their stall and this is like where the horses live this is their apartment this is their home this is their room and we try and make their room as comfortable as possible so do they always stay in the generally in the same stall so that they know that this is their space absolutely this is her stall this is where she sleeps if we go ahead and uh where to open this up and we put the feed in the buckets to for during feeding time she will run to her stall because she knows that's where her food is and none of the other horses will go in they will all go into their own stalls because that's their room they know how to get to where they got to go we keep them in their stalls for about a few hours a day we like to keep them in their paddocks because they're animals they need to be outside they need to be running around we don't like to keep them up in their stall so much for a long period of time but that is where they eat and they uh rest and when they get shelter when it's too hot too cold or it's raining their stall is their shelter what's the difference between a stall and a paddock so a stall is actually an enclosed normally 12x 12 enclosure and a paddock is usually a fenced in outdoor area where they can kind of run around roll and be horses what kind of food do they eat I know they eat hay cuz everybody knows that part but what besides hay whatever we give them grain so uh we give them like pellets with grain which is usually a blend of all kinds of different things that provides them with the nutrients that they need that sometimes the hay is not enough they have salt block that they lick on all day long it keeps them entertained it gives them the nutrients that they need and it also makes them drink more water so they're hydrated let's find out more about horses she's very tall she's very tall very tall she's taller than you are yes but we get measured in feet and these guys get measured in hands so a horse can get measured by the amount of hands and that's how you measure up to here and and the amount of hands that the that you can go ahead and put on the horse is how we measure the horse her Withers to her Hoops which are these right here that's how we we measure them and it's usually in 4 in the hands are 4 in so if we start from the bottom all the way to the top she's about 15 hands but 153 to be exact and that's how we measure them a horse's Withers is the highest point on its back the hooves are their feet and they're like our nails so every 5 weeks their nails get cut and trimmed and filed so that they can be nice and short cuz they grow just as much as our nails do this is her shoulder she's got big shoulders see how little our shoulders are compared to their shoulders they have big giant big muscles right here then this is her neck and in her neck is where her Mane is over here where we can see her whiskers is her muzzle so say hi Crystal with your muzzle hi hi Crystal her eyes her four loock oh this is a four loock your bangs are your for loock that's her for loock and her ears some horses don't like their ears touched they get a little sensitive about it Crystal doesn't seem to mind it very much when I touch her ears as we go down her neck this is her back and then this is her tail we like to condition it and brush it make it nice and shiny so it's all nice and pretty and this also helps to protect her from the Flies so there this this tail right here you see sometimes the horses are always whacking or going like this why that's because they're trying to swat the flies away from them that's how they protect themselves before we take a horse for a ride she needs to be groomed that means she needs to be cleaned and brushed and ready to go so when we want to brush we want to brush in circular motion gently enough to pick up all the dirt and we want to go from front to back okay we don't want to go against the hair we want to go with the hair [Music] now it's time to clean her Hooves this is a horseshoe it protects her nail from getting cracked her hoop from getting cracked it also protects her hoop wall and this is what's called the Frog okay the frog is like our cuticle okay so when we clean we don't necessarily want to poke this we want to clean around it kind of like when we pick our nails you know we got to clean around so just make sure that we take off any debris that might hurt her while we're riding if there's a rock or if there's anything lodged in there we want to make sure that we clean it up okay the last thing we're going to do is condition their Hooves right we want to make sure that condition them and we moisturize them so they're nice and protected so then when we go out to ride them their nails their Hoops are protected the man and tail is very important also to maintain you always want to brush it it's just like our own hair so now we're going to go ahead and we're going to tack up the horse we've already groomed the horse we made sure that she didn't have anything underneath her feet and we brushed her to make sure she didn't have anything on her back no little rocks or sand that when we go ahead and put the saddle on top of her where it's going to be rubbing her it might hurt her you need to have a saddle pad then the saddle the saddle gets held by a girth which is kind of like a belt that holds on to their belly um and then they we put on a bridal with rains which is how we control the horse right maintenance it's a lot of Maintenance yes they're big animals and they require a lot of Maintenance I know kids are always like I want a horse but it's so much more than just a horse they teach you a lot of responsibility and here we go who wants to help me walk Sophie me all right come on up one at a time and we're going to go ahead and step over this way and we're going to get ready to start to ride so we're going to go ah ahead fit fitted for helmets we're going to get fitted for helmets and we're going to go ahead and ride okay once we had on our helmets we got to ride the horses my horse walked which was a lot of fun my friends Paula and Edwin showed us different Gates which is how a horse moves they can Trot which is faster than walking and they can caner which is faster than trotting and they can Gallop which is very fast we had such a great time learning about horses and riding horses on this horse ranch Adventure did you have a good time yeah yes let's say goodbye bye
