We're at the Irish Festival today to find out about Ireland.# Are you ready?
Woohoo!
Thumbs up.
[Music] Happy St. Patrick's Day.
Happy St. Patrick's .. Ireland is an island in northwestern# Europe next to Great Britain.
Ireland is a country filled with castles,# music, dancing, and the color green.
People call it the Emerald Island because the land# is covered with green grass, hills, and clover.
One of Ireland's biggest celebrations is St. Patrick's Day.
It's celebrated in# many countries around the world.
People wear green and celebrate Irish# culture with music, dancing, and fun.
Parades are often a big part of the celebration.
[Music] You will see lots of shamrocks on St.# Patrick's Day.
Shamrocks are tiny green plants with three heart-shaped leaves, and they're# considered to be very lucky.
You'll also see lots of images of leprechauns.
Leprechauns# are small, mischievous fairies from Irish stories.
According to legend, they hide# a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
Some friends and I got a chance to make# our own pots of gold and rainbows.
[Music] What are you making?
[Applause] Clover and# a hat.
the leprechaun hat.
Your hair looks awesome.
Thank you.
Then it's time for# some music.
Irish music is fun, upbeat, and often uses instruments like a fiddle,# a special drum, and bag pipes.
[Music] So, we are the Burn Brothers all the# way from Dunny Gaul in Ireland.
So, uh, introduce yourself there.
I'm Luca.
I'm Finn.# I'm Dempsey.
Wonderful.
We play traditional Irish music and the boys are dancers as well.
I saw# that.
You're amazing.
That is so much fun.
Tell me about your instrument.
This is a traditional# Irish viron.
It's It's from Ireland.
So, it's made Ireland and it's made out of goat skin and it's# like one stick hold my hands and I go like this.
Let's hear your instrument.
So, this is just a# traditional guitar.
I also have a four string Irish banjo I play.
So, I just heard that.# Amazing.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Great.
And what are you playing?
This is just the the Irish# put accordion.
It's terrific.
Can I hear it not?
[Music] Wonderful.
And tell us about your I play# this Scottish pipes.
how to play the illan pipes, which are the Irish pipes, the fiddle, guitar,# all the whistles, tin whistles, all that kind of stuff.
So, we have about 15 instruments between us# and when we're doing a theater show, we we switch around all the instruments and between songs,# music, and dancing.
And uh yeah, it's great fun.
[Music] This is called the Highland Pipes.
It's# a very special instrument that we play and it's played all over the world.
It really is.
and it# can play some very sad music and it can play some really fun music.
And today for St. Patrick's Day,# we're having lots of fun.
Bag pipers often wear kilts.
A kilt is a special skirt that boys and men# wear in Scotland and sometimes Ireland.
It's made of a thick cloth with a colorful plaid pattern# called a tartan.
So, do you blow directly into it?
Well, I I flew and you go into this into here and# then it fills up this bag here.
And this is called a bag pipe.
The bag itself, right?
And then I# have three drones right here.
They're called drones.
They are.
There's two teners.
And then# I have a big long one which is called the bass.
Okay.
And that makes a real deep deep deep sound.# And then this one here, it only has nine holes and that makes nine different notes.
And my fingers# move really fast and that makes all the music.
[Music] Yay.
[Music] Irish music makes you want to dance.# Irish dancing is fun and energetic.
Dancers keep their arms straight by their# sides while their feet move super fast.
Bye.
Happy St. Patty's Day.
