zookeepers let's go today we're going to go in and we're going to visit our alabra tortoises they're actually large land tortoises from Africa [Music] this is Shelly Shelly loves Roma so that's petunia is uh is coming up to say hi behind you there hi [Music] petunia what's the difference between Turtles and tortoises oh that's a great question so the difference between a tortoise and a turtle is that a tortoise is usually on land and a turtle is usually in the water now this big guy right here his name is notto no and he's our big guy I think he thinks I'm a carrot I think he thinks you're a carrot too I know how old do they get so these guys can get up to 200 years old 200 yeah let's take a very close look at the tortoises because they have some interesting shapes that I think that we could draw a tortoise es have a lot of different shapes on them when you look really closely uh like their tongue has a three-sided shape so that's a triangle uh on their arms and legs the their skin has Circle shapes on it their their shell is in the shape of a dome and their head is kind of the shape of an oval so you know we want people to go out and explore Wilderness but you can learn so much just by paying really close attention and examining the world around you [Music] this is Wilbur uh and she is our two-toed sloth they love hanging from the trees just like this and that's how they live their life upside down in the trees and what kind of food do they eat so these guys are herbivores so they really like fresh fruits and vegetables so she likes lettuce she likes cauliflower like this she likes apples um she likes sweet potatoes so she gets a wide variety of food in her diet she eats nice and slowly everything is slow with a [Music] sloth well this is Lacy Lacy is Wilbur's zoologist which means that's the person that cares for Wilbur every single day so she's going to help you give Wilbur a nice healthy treat good job thank you how is she eating is she eating fast or slow she's eating slow what is he eating he's eating an apple and apple is healthy food what kind of healthy food do you eat oranges you eat oranges do you think Wilbur likes oranges does Wilbur like oranges she love strawberries oh I like strawberries do you like strawberries wber it was so nice to meet you today and I love that you eat healthy food she's just going to hang out for the rest of the day this is prisilla uh Priscilla is kind of exploring around right now he's our African crested porcupine you're going to notice that he's got a lot of quills on his back um and those quills would help protect him in the wild do they sleep at day at night do they have a routine that they follow yeah so routines are important for all of our animals um it helps keep them healthy helps keep them nice and relaxed and so he's actually trained to go see the doctor and going to the doctor for him is really [Music] fun and this is one of our zoologist cie Call's been working with Priscilla for many many years so Priscilla and I are really good friends we love to go on walks together so Priscilla loves going around to explore the zoo we get to go say hi to all the other animals and get some exercise and that is absolutely one of my favorite Sun time can we watch him do a check we sure can so what we're going to do is we're going to show what it looks like when we need to get a weit on Priscilla let's see how much he weighs what's it look like how much does he weigh 30 uh-huh 33 let's see how much you weigh oh 65 you're double the weight gosh you're like two porcupines let's see what you are 37 you're almost the same as a porcupine so now when people ask you how much you weigh you can say I'm two porcupines and you can say I'm one porcupine these guys are North American river otter um and this is Amy who's one of our ologists that work with them and which otter is this Amy this is actually Yoshi Yoshi so North American river otter are really good swimmers and uh what a lot of people don't know is they actually don't know how to swim when they're born and so their mom actually shows them how to swim what letter does the word otter start with oh oh oh so let's see if they can make an o with their body wow oh that was a good old and what are they doing in the water are they swimming what is the word swim what letter does that start with s s s can you make an S with your hand make an S wow wow that was a great look at that what are letters m w a w cuz he's in [Music] water up very good and down a that was a total W did you see that W good job yeah while we're learning our alphabet this is actually really fun for them too so this is this is how they play this is how they interact and so being able to come over here and follow the target this is just a big game for [Music] them shiny hooray I'm glad you're here we're looking for the Panthers can you help us I think we know the way put on your binoculars let's follow shiny's lead here we [Music] go oh my goodness MO is a western cougar and a panther and a cougar are actually the same animal really yep so a panther a cougar a puma all the same kind of cat so do you see his big teeth yeah so so he eats meat and he uses uses those big teeth to eat meat and do you see his ears how many ears does he have two those big eyes let him see what's going on around him and his ears allow him to hear his eyes are bigger than your eyes do you think he's looking right at you look yeah do you see that it's so [Music] cool thank you so much for showing us the zoo it was a great day oh we had a great day too and the Animals say thanks for coming thank you [Applause] [Music] bye
