It came into our family through a wealthy couple.
They had a ranch in Florida outside of Tampa and they had a wild turkey, just kind of adopt them, and the turkey strutted around the yard and interacted with them and they called him "Napoleon" because he strutted.
When he disappeared, probably to a bobcat, the wife was very very sad.
Her name was Katherine Jennings.
So Mr. Jennings commissioned this pin in New York City.
It was given originally to cousin Carolyn and she believes it's gold.
And that it's cloisonne.
APPRAISER: Okay.
GUEST: But I wear way more jewelry than cousin Carolyn so she gave it to me.
It feels more like just heavy pot metal to me in my hand, it's very heavy.
APPRAISER: The reason why it feels a little bit heavy is because it's enameled but it's not cloisonne enamel.
It's actually a vitreous enamel.
It's very elaborate and very lifelike and it's very difficult to get the colors the way they are.
There are no markings on the piece that would tell us who made it.
1940s, maybe 1950s.
And here you can see how the contra enamel.
And the reason why that's done is so that the brooch retains its three-dimensional form.
It is actually gold, it's 18 karat gold.
This would have been a very expensive uh gift for him to to have made for her.
I would put a auction estimate of $3 to $4,000.
GUEST: No.
Really?
APPRAISER: Yeah.
GUEST: Oh gosh, cousin Carolyn may want it back.
That's amazing.
APPRAISER: And I think you should you should wear it uh next uh to the next Thanksgiving dinner.
GUEST: Definitely.
