And they're very special because I'm actually a bird veterinarian.
She actually gifted me the collection when I graduated from veterinary college when she realized I was gonna be caring for birds.
APPRAISER: So you're really collecting what you do all day long, right?
(chuckles) GUEST: I'm collecting what I do all day long.
And the irony is that a lot of these size cages would no longer be considered ideal or appropriate for pet birds.
APPRAISER: Yeah, so, so decorative, today.
GUEST: Decorative, today.
APPRAISER: I think people, again, enjoy, enjoy having them in the home.
GUEST: Yeah.
APPRAISER: Um, they're terrific on the stands, all these different forms.
GUEST: Yeah.
APPRAISER: All of the-the cages are-are solid brass.
They all have a manufacturer's name.
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: I think most of these date probably from the 1930s or so.
GUEST: That's-- APPRAISER: Made in Connecticut.
Prices are pretty modest today at auction.
Most even on the stands, can be had for under $250 apiece.
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: So it's a good thing for people who want to collect, um GUEST: To have an opportunity.
APPRAISER: ...have an opportunity.
GUEST: Yes.
They're really pretty, and I enjoy them very much.
APPRAISER: Yeah.
Good.
(soft chuckle)
