IT'S UP TO US WHETHER THAT'S COMPANIES INCENTIVIZING THERE UP EMPLOYEES TO GET THE VACCINE WHETHER IT'S MANDATING THE EMPLOYEES THIS IS GOING TO PLAY OUT IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS AND MONTHS.
BUT WHAT IS PARAMOUNT IS THAT THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND THE LEADERSHIP IN NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA TAKE CONTROL OF THIS AND SAY HERE IS WHAT IS BEST FOR US OUR COMPANY AND OUR EMPLOYEES AS WELL AS THE CUSTOMERS AND THIS IS WHAT WE MUST DO TO MAINTAIN QUALITY OF LIFE IN A LIVING FOR EVERYBODY.
>> IS THIS GOING TO END UP WITH AN ECONOMIC EFFECT IS THIS GOING TO END UP SENDING THE ECONOMY SIDEWAYS?
>> I THINK IT'S DIFFICULT TO KNOW.

IS NOT GOING TO BE ALL THE COMPANIES IT'S GOING TO BE SOME THAT SAY THEY WANT TO DO IT SOME METHODS SAYING IT'S THE BEST FOR THE ORGANIZATION AND THE PROFITABILITY.

I THINK SOME OF THOSE FUNDAMENTALS ARE WHAT ARE KEEPING THE CAROLINAS IN THE CORRECT SPACE.
>> I THINK HE IS EXACTLY RIGHT ON THIS.
WE ARE ABSOLUTELY GOING CRAZY IN THIS REGION IN THE SOUTHEAST FROM HOME SALES TO NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS IN CAPITAL INVESTMENT WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A YEAR AGO THAT WE WOULD HAVE HAD OUR BEST TWO YEARS IN CAPITAL INVESTMENT IN THE SOUTHEAST DURING A PANDEMIC.
I THINK PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OBVIOUSLY WORKING FROM HOME IN THESE REMOTE WORKPLACES ARE GOING TO BE HERE FOR IT WHILE.
I THINK WE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS.
IF YOU ARE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR SURE.
WHAT IS DRIVING THIS AS IT'S JUST BEEN DESCRIBED.
>> IS AT THE LOW COST OF MONEY POURS UP THE LOW DEMAND TO BEGIN WITH OR IS IT BECAUSE OF THE GREAT PROJECTS THAT YOU AND YOUR COLLEAGUES PUT FORWARD OR IS IT BECAUSE EVERYBODY IS MOVING TO THE SUNBELT?
HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT THIS HAS BEEN WAY OUTSIDE WHEN IT COMES TO THE NUMBERS AND HISTORIC AMOUNTS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT?
>> I THINK THE TYPES OF FIELDS TO GET A CHANCE TO COMPETE FOR ART USUALLY DRIVEN BY A FEW FACTORS SOMETIMES IT'S JUST A GREATER DEMAND FOR A PARTICULAR PRODUCT.
SOMETIMES MANUFACTURING NEEDS TO FIND A NEW LOCATION AND SOMETIMES IT'S DRIVEN BY DISSATISFACTION IN THE COUNTRY WHEREVER THEY DECIDE TO PICK UP AND MAKE THAT BIG MOVE WITH HER THEY FEEL LIKE IT'S A BETTER ENVIRONMENT FOR THEIR COMPANY EMPLOYEES.
THIS EXPLAINS WHY WE GET SOME MANY CHANCES TO COMPETE AND AS HE SAID IT'S AN UNPRECEDENTED IN TERMS OF THE NUMBERS OF OPPORTUNITY AT LEAST IN NORTH CAROLINA AND I EXPECT SOUTH CAROLINA CHANCES TO WIN THIS TYPE OF INVESTMENT.
AS FOR WILEY WHEN THIS I COULDN'T AGREE MORE WITH WHAT HE SAID WHICH IS OUR FUNDAMENTALS PRE- PANDEMIC TO NEED TO BE VERY STRONG.
THE BUSINESS CLIMATE AND THE TAX ENVIRONMENT ALL OF THESE THINGS NORTH CAROLINA AND SOUTH CAROLINA I SUSPECT ARE WELL-POSITIONED TO COME OUT ON THE OTHER END OF THIS PROCESS SUCCESSFULLY.

>> WHILE WE ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE REGIONAL GROWTH THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU NEED TO PREPARE AND WE HAVE TO EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT HOW TO TELL THE STORY AND THEIR NARRATIVE TO REALLY SET THEMSELVES APART AND BE ABLE TO COMPETE WITH LARGER COMPETITORS COMMENCE THE MARKET EXPECTS EARLIER THIS WEEK I MET WITH A GREAT PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS MANUFACTURER.
400 NEW JOBS ARE BEING CREATED IN THE TRIANGLE IN THIS COMPANY MADE IT A VERY CLEAR POINT THAT SOME OF THIS HIGHER LEVEL TALENT IS GOING TO BE ATTRACTED TO OR MAY BE POACHED THE WAY TO WORK FOR THE LIKES OF SOMEBODY ELSE.
ACCESS IS GREAT BUT WE ALL MUST BE MINDFUL OF WHAT THE IMPACT IS OF RECRUITING NEW COMPANIES.
>> IN THE TALENT GAP HAS BEEN WIDENED.
WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THIS NOW BUT THERE IS ANY CONCERN YOU HAVE ANY LINGERING CONCERNS WHEN IT COMES TO WHAT SOME CALL IT A LOST OF EDUCATION.
NOW THE SENIORS HAVE MOVED IN TO BECOME UNDERCLASSMEN.

WE NEED TO BE MORE PROACTIVE IN HOW WE APPROACH THE.
>> SOMETHING THAT I LIKE AND AM SMILING EAR TO EAR WHEN THERE IS A TALENT CRUNCH YOU HAVE TO REMOVE SOME OF THE RELIANCE ON THE TYPICAL PEDIGREE TO GET THE JOB DONE.
>> THIS MEANS THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE INFRASTRUCTURE IS GOING TO BE MORE VALUED.
THE TWO-YEAR AGREE AND APPRENTICESHIPS THAT THINGS YOU REALLY NEED DOING THE JOB VERSUS THE SUPERFICIAL THINGS NEEDED TO GET THE WARM AND FUZZY FEELING ABOUT WHO WAS HIRED FOR THE SCHOOL.

THEY ARE ALL DOING GREAT THINGS IN THEIR LIVES BUT THERE WAS A TIME WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THAT TYPICAL FOR YOUR PEDIGREE PEOPLE SCRATCH THEIR NOSES A LITTLE BIT HOW DO YOU GET TO NEW TALENT ONBOARD FASTER?
HUDDY LEVERAGED INFRASTRUCTURE AND HOW DO YOU DEFINE WHAT THE JOBS ARE SOME THAT YOU CAN TRAIN PEOPLE.
WE HAVE ALL OF THIS UNNECESSARY EXPERIENCE THAT DOESN'T RELATE TO THE JOB PERFORMANCE.
>> I JUST WANTED TO FOLLOW-UP I THINK IT'S INTERESTING ABOUT HOW IT MATTERS LESS WHEN EVERYBODY IS FIGHTING.

>> HOW MEANINGFUL AMAZON MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT RECENTLY THAT THEY WEREN'T GOING TO WAIT FOR APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING OR TWO YOUR EDUCATION FOR ANY TYPE OF BEFORE UNDERGRAD TRAINING THAT THEY WERE JUST GOING TO DO THIS.
IT'S NOT A NEW IDEA BUT AGAIN IT WAS A PROGRESSIVE IDEA.
A MANY OF THOSE COMPANIES ARE WE GOING TO START THE SEED TAKING EDUCATION TO GIVE PEOPLE WHAT THEY NEED.
>> GOES BACK TO AFFORDABILITY I THINK THE LARGER COMPANIES CAN GET IT DONE BUT THE SMALLER COMPANIES ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE IN THAT AREA.
THEY DON'T HAVE THE EXPERIENCES AND CAPABILITIES OF DOING THIS IN-HOUSE.
WE ARE GOING TO SEE A FURTHER DIVIDE BETWEEN THE SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE LARGE BUSINESSES.
I THINK IT'S GREAT YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO GET THE FIRST PICK OF THE LITTER IF YOU WILL.
THEY'VE PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN THEY CAN TRY NEW THINGS AND MAKE IT WORK.
>> I THINK IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY AND IT COULD REALLY BE TRANSFORMATIONAL.
>> LET'S SWITCH OVER TO BROADBAND ACCESS AND HELD OUT AS BEING VERY IMPORTANT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC AND THAT'S ALL HE TALKED ABOUT.
EATING MORE PEOPLE PLUGGED IN TO THE INTERNET I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANYBODY THAT DISAGREED.
COMPANIES WANTED TO FEEL AS IF THERE IS MONEY OUT THERE AND I WON'T SAVE ANYTHING DRAMATIC BECAUSE IT'S STILL BEING TALKED ABOUT AND IN SOME CASES DEPLOYED BUT IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S FIZZLED TO A DEGREE.
IT SEEMS LIKE THIS WOULD BE AN EASY WIN FOR BOTH GENERAL ASSEMBLIES TO PUT A STAKE IN THE GROUND AND SAY WE FINALLY FINISHED THE LAST MILE EVERYBODY IN EVERY COUNTY HAS BROADBAND ACCESS IS THERE SOME CONCERN AND ARE YOU HEARING THIS ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN A TIMELY MANNER?
PERSONALLY KNOW.
IT'S JUST A FUNCTION OF WHEN WE GET TO THAT THAT SOMETHING LIKE ARTIE FOR THE MILITARY.
NOBODY WINS AN ELECTION SAYING THEY ARE FOR THE MILITARY.

WE UNVEILED A PLAN TO ASK AGO FOCUSED ON BROADBAND EXPANSION.

I THINK THE PLAN IS PARTLY INVESTS IN SOME EDUCATION AND DIGITAL LITERACY AWARENESS EFFORTS THAT ARE GOING TO HELP INCREASE ADOPTION OF BROADBAND IN THESE AREAS THAT HAVE NOT HAD IT BEFORE.
I THINK THAT'S WHY WE ARE FOCUSED ON ALL THREE OF THESE STRATEGIES.
>> EVEN BEFORE WE'VE HEARD THE THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT PANDEMIC WOULD MEAN OTHER THAN MAYBE A SCI-FI MOVIE.

I KNOW THIS IS CASTING A FAIRLY WIDE NET BUT NOW WE'VE SEEN THIS ACCELERATE.
IS THIS A WORRY IS A CHAMBER?
MAYBE EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY WHAT DOES IT SAY AND WHAT DOES THIS SPELL FOR ANY OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS?
>> LIKE ANYTHING THERE IS A SHELF LIFE.
I THINK THE CHAMBER IS A CRITICAL POINT RIGHT NOW ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD.
FOR A LONG TIME IN THE '60s AND THE 70s AND 21st CENTURY YOU HAVE TO ADAPT AND YOU HAVE TO BE MORE CREATIVE.
BUT IT REALLY IS A MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION YOU NEED TO BE RESPONSIVE TO YOUR MEMBERS.
THAT CLIMATE HAS CHANGED THIS IS BEING DONE EXTREMELY WELL ADRIAN AND WHAT SHE'S BEEN ABLE TO DO IN INDIANAPOLIS.
CHARLOTTE IS MOVING ITS GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CHAMBERS WITH ALL MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATIONS IN TIMES OF CRISIS IF WE PROACTIVELY FORGET WHAT YOU DO IN THE PAST AND REALLY THINK OF WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE OUT THERE I'M VERY BULLISH ON THE CHAMBER'S OVERALL.
THAT'S IF YOU CAN THINK DIFFERENTLY AND BE CREATIVE IN HOW YOU REPRESENT YOUR MEMBERSHIP.
>> WE'VE GOT A FEW MINUTES LEFT AND AS CONGRESS CLOSES IN OUR OWN CONVICTIONS AND IT EXTENDED THE DEADLINES FOR EVICTIONS YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT THIS WITHOUT TALKING ABOUT AFFORDABLE HOUSING ALSO THE EXPLOSIVE COST IN THIS STEW OF PRIMARY HOUSING IS A GOOD THING OR BAD THING?
>> IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU SIT.
IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO SELL YOUR HOME AND BUY UP IT'S JUST A GREAT MARKET.
IF YOU ARE A RENTER AND YOU ARE ACCUMULATING SOME FACT THAT IF YOU WILL.
REALLY IF YOU ASK ME IT'S A DIFFICULT SPOT NOT BEING VERY SPECIFIC LET'S SAY YOU OWN AND PROPERTIES FIVE OF THEM YOU HAVE MORTGAGES ON AND YOU HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO EVICT PEOPLE THAT DON'T PAY RENT THERE IS A DOUBLE WHAMMY THAT PEOPLE AREN'T SEEING THE SHORT ANSWER IS THAT THE REAL COMPLEX COMMENT BECAUSE IT'S VERY SITUATIONAL.
IT'S FOR THE SAME PEOPLE THAT ARE ALREADY WINNING.
IS AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS TOUGHER TO COME BY.

WE CAN LET HIM RESET WE'VE GOT A FEW MINUTES LEFT IS THIS IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TERMS IS THIS A PROBLEM CHILD?
THIS HOUSING COSTS?
HOUSING HAS DEFINITELY BECOME ONE OF THESE ISSUES THAT WE HAD TO THINK ABOUT IN RECENT YEARS ESPECIALLY IN THESE HIGHER GROWTH AREAS WHERE THE LACK OF HOUSING WHO WOULD CALL THIS WORKFORCE HOUSING.
WE ALSO HAVE THE LACK OF GOOD CHOICES OR INEVITABLY EXPENSIVE HOUSING THESE THINGS ULTIMATELY CONSTRAINED THE WORKFORCE IS CONSTRAINED THE ATTRACTIVENESS OF THIS PLACE FOR PEOPLE TO MOVE TO IF THEY ARE BEING RECRUITED FOR A JOB THE HOUSING IS TIED UP WITH THE ENTIRE WORKFORCE CHALLENGE THAT WE ARE CONTINUING TO SEE EMPLOYERS STRUGGLE WITH ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
IF YOU DON'T SOLVE HOUSING AFFORDABILITY AT SOME POINT WE'RE GOING TO SEE THOSE EFFECTS ON THE EMPLOYERS THAT ARE TRYING TO RECRUIT HIRES OUTSIDE THE MARKET.
THIS IS WHY WE SEE THE SURFACE AS MUCH A MAJOR ISSUE FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS IS LAST FEW YEARS.

IN TEN SECONDS IS IT GOING TO SUPERCHARGE AFFORDABLE HOUSING THESE ARE ALL PRODUCTS AND THESE ARE GROWING PAINS THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE CAROLINAS.
IT'S GOING TO BE DIFFICULT BUT WE NEED THIS IN THE END.
