She turned her camera on behind us.
Okay.
I think she's over there now.
Okay.
No, we're - Good.
Okay.
So actually why don't you go into that a little bit about what you were saying.
So there was a time period round 1884 when students remains were, were being sent back to their parents.
- Growing up, you'd always hear about the boarding schools, like, you know, the family was sent away.
Bad things happen, but it's like when you start hearing about like sterilization, you start getting into like genocidal territory.
They were trying to eliminate us as native people.
There's just so many questions that I had, you know, like what are they trying to cover up, what are they trying to hide, you know?
And so just really heavy information seems to have been, pisses me off to a, sent their remains home.
Having my ancestors have gone through that means that my ancestors had survived during that time.
So I'm kind of living and walking because of that experience, you know?
And the fact that I can be this filmmaker and tell these stories and pass this knowledge on, which is I feel is my job as a filmmaker is to pass our stories on - One student and then another student had died and their remains were being sent back to Klamath.
And this was an extraordinarily high expense.
- We're living and breathing today, you know, I mean, we have people learning the language, you know, people are learning the language, passing the language on.
We're living and thriving now, you know, more than ever.
You know, especially in the film space, we're now able to tell our stories and able to produce.
We're able to get the keys so we can tell them ourselves, you know, and it's a beautiful thing.
