Master shipwright, James Richardson builds a heritage oyster boat, Chesapeake Bay Bugeye.

For 7 years, a film crew documented the slow, fascinating process of transforming roughcut oak and pine into a sleek, graceful symbol of Maryland’s rich maritime heritage; a Chesapeake Bay Bugeye, a rakish two-masted work boat that dominated oyster dredging as far back a 1880. The film features James Richardson, 72 year old master shipwright, who is building this remarkable sailing craft.
