- And we are music education students from Slippery Rock University.
- And this is our Teachable Moment.
- What is rhythm and why is it important, Amanda?
- Well, rhythm is a series of repeated movements, patterns, or sounds.
- And it's important because it works on communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
We can find rhythms all around us.
Like when a clock ticks, when you're walking, and even your own heartbeat.
- [Amanda] Your own heartbeat?
- Yes, your own heart has rhythm too.
- See if you can find your own heartbeat by placing your hand on your chest.
- Once you do that, see if you're able to keep a steady beat by tapping your hand, stomping your feet, or even snapping.
- Now with a friend or your super special adult, see if you can create new, fun rhythms over your steady heartbeat.
- [Michael] And if there's two or more of you, see how complex you're able to get.
- We can't wait to hear the fun rhythms that you've created.
- Now that we know about rhythms, see how many you are able to find in your everyday life.
- [Narrator] IQ Smart Parent Teachable Moments are funded in part by the Grable Foundation.
