- My name's Randy and I'm headed to Bothwell.
It's a 64 Nova.
It's just a car I wanted to build and I built it.
I got sick a few years ago and I sold all my other stuff off and then I had a double lung transplant and I had bought that prior to it and it sat in my shop and I made through the transplant.
So I built the car.
We started when before I had the transplant and we finished after the transplants.
All about including the transplant two, three years.
- We're not gonna see any rain now until it looks like, oh no, - It, I get rid of.
- I'm Lisa Downey.
I am the main chairperson of the BWA Optimist Old OTs car show.
And we're in BWA, Ontario today.
We probably could have maybe over close to 2000 cars eventually.
We have a Bender's Field.
Our Bothwell Townsville firemen hold a 50 50 draw.
I'm sure the winner walked away with $25,000 last year.
Back in about 1982, the Buffalo Optimist started it in Victoria Park and had maybe 10 cars.
Old auto stepped in and helped and it just keeps growing and growing every year.
So they went from 10 cars to maybe 2000 cars.
- I'm Rob McKinley and that's my 57 Rancher, which I first saw in 92 in, in Prince Edward Island.
And I lost track of it.
And I finally founded advertised in Old Autos four or five years ago.
And I went down and looked at it and sure enough it was the same car and I brought it home.
Mechanically.
There was a number of things that need to be done, but basically what you see is the way I bought it.
I remember in 1957 when the Fords come out with the Thunderbird and I just had to have one of those, which I did, but I don't have anymore.
And so this was, this was the, the next step.
And it, it's unique.
I like it.
The first year I always liked the design of the 57 Fords.
The fellow who had it before me certainly found every add-on that you could get from Ford Motor Company.
And it's on there.
I think, you know, anywheres from the backup lights to the rails to this little piece of trim is the hardest thing to find that No, it's, it's a showy car.
I can't say it's a show car, but it's a showy car and I like it.
Yeah.
- My name's Ian McKenzie.
I'm from London, Ontario and I own a 1973 Triumph Stag, which is 50 years old this year.
They were built from 1970 to 82 in the uk and they were imported into the US from 70 to 73 to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette.
But they had severe engine issues so they weren't imported any longer after 73, this one is out of Mary Land, we got it in 2010 and did the refurbishment on it.
And they've been driving it ever since.
It doesn't have the original Triumph engine because of the issues.
So it's got a three liter V six Mustang fuel injected engine in it and it's more reliable that way.
So it was a, it was a dream car back when I was a teenager in the uk.
I ran Austin Cooper, S'S Morris, Cooper S's and a friend of mine had one of these and I gotta drive that.
And she didn't care how I drove it, so I drove the living out of it and I've always wanted one.
And then I happened to see this one come up on Ka Gigi back in 2010.
So I had to have it, you know, it's got four seats, all the rest of the triumphs, like the TR six and sevens and threes and that are all two seaters.
So this was like a, a luxury car at the time in 73.
So, you know, it's nice to be able to take the family out in the car.
It's a sports car.
- I'm Rick Warren.
I have a 1950 Ford Custom.
It's been in the family for over 40 years.
It was my dad's car and he left it to me.
That's pretty much it.
My uncle did the chop and everything.
So all it's labor of love.
- Well my name is Ralph Hubble.
I'm from Windsor and this is 36 Chrysler Airstream.
I've had it for almost 19 years.
It's a nice car.
I like it.
Well we had the interior done about four years, four or five years ago.
And we had it, it used to be like a, like an army green color inside.
So we found a color from that era and then we had it done exactly the same as it was.
I can open the door, if you like it, you can see it.
Of course we added seat belts.
So if I take the grandkids for a ride, they're, they're, they got seat belts.
So I seen a picture of it when a guy had it for sale and I just liked the style of the car, right?
So I called the guy, I bought it from Huntsville up past Barry.
So when I seen the picture, I liked it.
I called the guy and asked him him some curd pictures.
So he sent me some and I said, well I'm interested, come and look at it.
And he had his price on it and I told him what price range I was in.
He says, I'll take that.
He says, no, I didn't make you an offer.
Said that's the price range I'm in.
If you're interested in that kind of ranges, I'll come up, drive up and look at it.
So he said Okay.
So we went up, we looked at it and we took it for a little ride because I said it was a little bit rougher shake there.
So I made a deal with him and three weeks later I went back in the trailer and brought, it's a six cylinder, it's a 2 41 cubic inch.
The book says it's rated at 93 horsepower.
It has a three speed tranny with overdrive.
So I can get up to six miles an hour, no problem.
It's a little slow getting up there, but once it's up there it's okay.
It's got 11 inch drum brake, so stops to pay for a car with run brakes.
I've had two front doors repaired.
I've had those repaired, I've had the ins and out runs brake, I've sealed all the new gaskets and stuff within.
I've done - All replace all the front end parts with original parts.
Well I'm Tom Stewart from Chatham and I have a 47 Buick special.
So the car is originally outta Montana and it's been put together by 81 donor car, Merrill donor car.
And this is what we have all, I just like to look, I just like the way they look and they're a no stress paint job if you will because you can walk away with it and walk away from it and never have to worry about anything happening to it.
And it draws attention and it's fun to drive.
So it's like I say, it's an 81 Camaro drive line.
So it's got a three 50 with a 704 tranny with a 3 55 in the back of it.
It power steering, power brakes, reliable and get parts anywhere if I need to.
So yeah.
- Oh hey, my name's John Walsh.
I'm from Harrow.
It's a 1966 Chevy, two Ss and it's been in our family since 1978 and spent most of its life as a drag car.
And about 10 years ago I got a hold of it and completely restored it and this is what we ended up with.
Oh, I like everything about it.
I like that it's been in the family for so long driving, it takes me back to when I was 18 years old, four speed.
And you know, I dragged raced all through the nineties.
So I like the big tires.
I've done everything other than the body, the interior of all the metal work I did and all the fabrication.
And it's a 3 83 crate engine from GM that's on four 50 horsepower, four 50 torque.
I got a four speed Muncie rock crusher on the back of that 4 29 gear and a gear vendor's over under drive for the highway.
And it's a lot of fun to drive.
- Glen Rule Bell River 67 Cadillac Cal, a second owner, an older gentleman in Quebec, was the original owner.
I bought it sight on scene and that's my fourth year.
Well I had a 47 Cadillac that I bought it from a good friend who in fact built it and I enjoyed the Cadillac ride and I didn't care for the large big block at the time.
I couldn't keep it cool.
So I got an original 4 29.
Of course it's the same big block but it's all stock original 42,000 miles on that car and it rides like a Cadillac.
My name is Sue - Campbell and I live in LaSalle, Ontario.
And this is my car.
It's a 64 pon, I've had it for 40 years, pretty much did a ground up restoration on it and couldn't be happier.
It's a one and done car for me 'cause there's so many beautiful cars out there and some guys sell 'em and wish they had 'em back.
And I'm like, I'm never selling, keep what you got.
Life's good, you know.
And this car was in a friend body shop.
They had bought it and started restoring it and they quit and it was a basket case at the time.
So I thought, wow, I'm just laid out from GM at the time and I thought, well I'll work on this in the winter, in the spring I'll have a car.
It took me 10 years.
But yeah, never looked back.
I mean the motor was done and the front seats were redone.
So it was, to me it was an assembly project but it still took me 10 years.
The car speaks for itself, right?
It's, it's a classic design.
Raymond Lowie put 'em on my license plate 'cause he's the designer that worked for Studebaker in the early fifties and they, he sold or built a lot of beautiful cars designed, I should say.
And this was the one that he came outta retirement to help Studebaker 'cause they were floundering and they went bankrupt shortly after.
And the car lived on the last one's built, if you know, the Avanti model was 2007.
So they did a good job of recreating it.
They put 'em on in the, oh threes, I believe it was, they put 'em on Ford Mustang platforms and they moved to the Firebirds platform in I think oh 6 0 7.
So the car lived on for until 2007.
It, it had a following and that's the biggest part, right?
People that know the car love it.
So I'm just happy to be one of those guys.
I know when they're looking at people tell me all the time, what a beautiful car.
So if I could build them, I could sell 'em.
But it's all original.
I have done some work to it, but it's as close to as original as can be.
First came out, it had a unique design, right?
They did have some issues, cooling, right?
Everybody was saying, you know, it overheats, but you know, it's all part of the design feature.
Although they, you know, you could overcome it, but it, it was a issue.
But yeah, there was nothing like this in 64 at the time.
Design wise, - I'm Ralph Ach from Ridgetown and it's a 1950 meteor and I've built it up right from the ground up and we enjoy driving it and, and have a lot of fun with it.
It was a, it was a good fixer upper and like I said, it was a lot of work, but we took her from the ground up and, and this is what I ended up with.
It's a nice machine.
It's all original except I, I guess the only thing that isn't original is the transmission, but other than that, everything else is all original.
Well, very little.
It, it doesn't take a lot of maintenance.
And I, I have a garage built, especially for this, it, it sits in the garage all the time in the winter time and everything.
So like I said, it, it, it's looked after, well - Wayne Cado from Townsville, I've had the car since 1965 and had a paint job was done by Bill Martin out of Chatham.
And the engine was done by Roddy Cochran, who was an engine builder in Bowmanville.
We drove the car down to Louisville, Kentucky, it's gonna be seven or eight years ago now.
Four of us went down and that show was 11,003 cars.
It, it was quite a show.
It's new from one end into the other pretty well and lot of air tilt crews, anything you want, it fits in there.
But we enjoy the car.
We do a lot of cold and showed us, we were over the Wall Street last night, but we got rain new.
So it's a 1932 Ford coop, all steel five.
It's original, original body.
Not chopped or channeled or anything.
All it works really well.
That's what we need.
The car when I got it, it's been Casper for years.
Yeah.
And there's been a lot of photos taken to that picture, so it just unbelievable - How much in - Parts for - It.
- Got lots for this thing.
I saw it too here, but I'm not sure if they're the right ones.
So - She has to be sick.
- Don't need - Any extra stuff.
Have a good day.
Yep.
Hi, my name is Stan Giler.
Car is a chef Corvette 1966.
I have the Camaro, so I got the Corvette the year before.
It's just something I always dreamt about owning, I guess.
And I bought one in, I bought it in an auction a year ago.
We did the engine bay, we cleaned up.
It had, they had a lot of chrome in it.
We took a lot of the chrome out, made it more original looking - Right there.
Hi, my name's Manny and this is my 19 Chevy line.
Austin Mini.
Why?
Because since I was about this big, I wanted one, I finally out went about 25 years ago.
Yeah, everything, engine, body paint, suspension, you name it.
Is it something different?
Unique.
It's a, it's a smiles per how you see it as smiles per gallon or mile.
Yeah, that's all.
Just something different.
Dan, - I want to get into one of these that have a large truck.
Yeah, it's so much cheaper.
I don't know if I'd pick six, six and a half.
I would definitely drive this.
- I'm Dylan Johnson.
This is my 2002 S 10 extreme pretty rare truck, 155,000 kilometers on it.
Trying to keep her nice and waxed up.
Now she's raining, gonna put a, a dual exhaust on it.
New cow hood, another box.
I had three of these at one point, so I had to have this truck because it was something I always drew as a kid.
Really, really into the truck series in nascar.
This is the most, most, most similar thing to that I guess.
So.
Hi, I am Braden Welch.
This is a 1992 Ford Mustang.
It's a 3 0 2 little bit of work done to it.
It's fast.
Well it's just a car I'd always seen growing up and I had to buy it.
- You guys made it?
We did.
So how was the drive then?
Until we hit the rain?
It was really good.
That wasn't quite to shower, wasn't it?
Yeah, it wasn't bad over.
- Pretty freaked down.
Pretty straight across.
Yeah - Man.
What do you think of it?
It's dope.
Awesome.
Absolutely beautiful.
It's a clean engine, clean engine back before the radiator.
Looks like brand new.
Oh yeah.
Shiny - Update.
My, my name's Glen McDonald and it's a 1968 Camaro convertible looking for a, an old Chevy to do after I got my pickup done and a friend of mine knew where this was and we went and looked at it and ended up bringing it home.
So total rotisserie restoration.
15 years ago it was done and it's got 25,000 miles on it now, so yeah, well I've had it for 20 years now, but it had 2,966 miles on it and it suffered its first accident and then it never saw the road again.
- And - So today you can restore 'em, you know, maybe back then you couldn't so, so easily.
Yeah.
So we got it done and it goes down the road straight as a die and everything's great.
Yeah, this - One here is built for my wife.
So it was a 40th birthday gift.
Yes.
That was like what, five years ago?
Yeah, well it's got a 3 83 store for that we'd put into it with four speed automatic overdrive.
Yeah.
Four length suspension, four disc brakes.
Drives like a modern car just from her.
Yes, it was a favorite car.
So I was allowed to have whatever I wanted.
I got a few other cars of my own and he's always let me have what I wanted.
So it was her career and it was our, it was a gift.
Yeah.
This is my 70 Monte Carlo.
This is got an original 4 54 SS matching numbers car I saw, I actually, believe it or not, I traded an old tractor for this.
Yeah.
I put, I was looking for an old, old car 10, 12 years ago and the guy called me up in Toronto and said that I've got this.
So it was great.
The only thing I do is live in a motor work and repainted.
That's it.
And obviously I tease the ribs.
You do?
- My name's Alan Ashburn.
I'm from Bothell, Ontario.
Yeah.
And I own a 1937 chip, one of my favorite body styles.
I bought it west 35 years ago.
You know, we made a street rod out of it.
It's a three 50 with a 3 0 8 rear end, four speed automatic and all the good stuff.
I was, when I started to look for this particular car, I was actually looking for a 40 Ford, which is basically the same body style.
This caught my eye and I bought it sight on scene from a guy out in British Columbia and had it shipped here.
Did a good deal.
He was a, he was a good honest guy.
Everything was cool.
- My name's Steve Lovegrove.
I'm at the Bothwell Car Show and I, I've been asked to explain a little bit about my trailer over here.
It was made in Peterborough, Ontario and it's a a 1958 McGinness and I retrieved it from a, a kind of an old junkyard up north in Renfru and rebuilt the wheels on it.
And it's actually been used in some movies and I sleep in it now only at these shows.
And just so we can stay overnight when we're outta town.
I've varnished the inside of it and put new wheel bearings and everything on it to make it safe and made sure any rotten wood was switched out on it.
And it's just a joy to drive.
I drive it with my 68 pickup truck and I pull it down the road.
- Good.
My name is Denise Sanchez.
I've owned this car for about 10 years.
It's a one year car, only made one year.
They made a prototype in 90 and 61, but never, never got made.
So it's a frontenac.
Yeah, it's a Mercury had needed something to sell.
So they used the frontenac and then they discontinued it and made the comet in Canada.
They didn't make a comet in 60 in Canada, so they made the 61 for the mercury to sell in 61.
It's all original except for the seats and the steering wheel.
I work on it when I can.
Yeah.
Had it painted by a friend of mine and just do it.
Just have fun with it.
That's about all.
It's a funny story with this car.
I had a 61 falcon and I've always, I've researching these and I was up in Sudbury and I was driving back and I was on the 4 0 1, the ber and you go under the, they go underpass and there it was for sale.
My mother doesn't, she doesn't approve of these cars, so she said we're not stopping.
So I dropped her off and went back and bought it.
