Biden calls for suspension of federal and state gas taxes
President Joe Biden called on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months and asked states to take similar action. He said gas prices in the U.S. have climbed nearly $2 a gallon following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The federal gas tax, which is just over 18 cents a gallon, is used to fund transportation projects. It’s unclear if Congress will act, as some members are skeptical.
