Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- Hello, fellow cartoonist.
This is Cartoon Academy and I'm your host, Joe Wos.
On this show, we learn how to draw everything from beautiful butterflies to creepy cockroaches.
So stay tuned.
We are learning how to draw a beautiful butterfly.
Let's draw.
We begin with the eyes, a letter O or oval shape.
The second eye is a litter C backwards.
For the eyelids and eyelashes, we use just one line.
It comes across and then curls up.
Same thing on the other side, across and up.
Now the pupils one, two, butterflies go through an amazing metamorphosis or change.
They start out as an egg, then become a caterpillar, then a chrysalis, and finally a butterfly.
For the nose and mouth, we come out, around and up and at the corner of the mouth, the letters C backwards.
Next is the body starting from the base of the mouth.
Come down, down, down, down, down, down, around, and then follow it back up.
Right before you get to that mouth curve around to the eye.
Now we had a couple lines for texture, just some little ridges on the body.
There we go.
Next are the wings.
Come up, down, in, out, down to a point up and connect.
Our butterflies wings are symmetrical.
That means whatever's on the left is a mirror image of what's on the right.
So we're gonna try and copy that same design, but we're gonna flip it and reverse it.
Up, down, in, out, down, and up.
Some butterflies can fly really fast.
The skipper butterfly can fly up to 37 miles per hour.
Now, for the design on the wings themselves, you could put any design you want.
I'm gonna start with a little scribble shape here, but remember, whatever I do here, I wanna flip it and reverse it and put it right here.
Maybe a heart up here, some circles, a teardrop shape.
You can add as much or as little as you want to this design.
Just remember to keep it symmetrical.
Whatever's on the left is on the right.
Lastly, let's add some antennas up.
Curl around in a small circle.
Up, curl around in a small circle.
There's your butterfly.
Be sure to sign your name.
Take pride in your work.
That is a beautiful butterfly.
Now go ahead and add some color.
