Faith works is a hub in the Operations Sharing Network, a program by Christian Appalachian Project that collects and distributes goods to those who need them.
Our Mackenzie Spink tells us how it got started and how it's already serving thousands of Kentuckians.
The 10,000 square foot Faith Works Distribution Center is the result of a partnership between Christian Appalachian Project, or Cap and Danville Christian Church.
Its pastors say they wanted to show their community what can happen when faith works.
One of our elders just said that he had this vision that we would reach into the community and we would make a difference.
We would be able to help in times of disaster and relief, and that when the community was hurting, they knew where they could turn.
Faith works acts as an intermediary between Cap, which provides the resources that fill the warehouse and local nonprofits that can come pick up whatever they need to serve their community.
We have numerous nonprofits that are helping to meet the needs of our community, people who already have the relationships built, the connections they know, the needs.
And the way that this helps the community is that sometimes in a small community, these partner, these partners of ours, these nonprofits don't have access to the resources that they need.
And so this is bringing those resources closer to our community and to this region.
And so having quicker access means that, you know, they're going to try to get those resources easier, but it also frees up funding budgets that they're currently spending on these kinds of products so that they can use that in other places in their organization.
The distribution hub in Casey County had a soft opening in May, and already its network has grown across five counties.
Already we're seeing 45 partners that have partnered here with this and with Faith works, and that's about 30,000 people, is what I understand.
And we know from our other hubs seeing hundreds of nonprofits as they begin to partner.
It's tens of thousands of people that are that are served in so many good ways.
The type of products that come into the distribution center is varied, but Terry says people seem to find exactly what they need.
The goods that come through could be from food, personal items to furniture to health care.
We've seen sunscreen and hardhats and safety vests and all sorts of things.
I mean, you really don't know what you're getting, but it's an amazing thing to see God working in the background with other nonprofits and needs.
And so you have somebody come in and you mention a product that you don't think you're going to be able to to move very easily.
And somebody comes in and says, hey, that's exactly what we need.
Capp says hubs like this on the Operation Sharing network are especially equipped to serve regions affected by natural disasters.
So we find camps.
Operation sharing in times of disaster really help to bring resources like water, essential cleaning supplies, generators, things that people need fast in immediately and in times of disaster.
So far, the Faith Works Distribution Center has partnered with nonprofits in Casey, Adair, Russell, Lincoln, and Wayne counties for Kentucky Edition.
I'm Mackenzie Spink.
Camp has two other operation sharing hubs in Kentucky, one in Corbin and another in Paintsville.
