Hi internet!
Here's some behind the scenes and trivia for this week's feature, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”.
First and foremost, one of my favorite musicians, Phil Collins, has claimed that he was in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as a child extra storming the castle at the end, but said he was cut out of the scene because of a huge bandage on his face that was covering a massive cyst, which, hey Phil, maybe just don't mention that you may or may not have been in the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
I told my family this line twice to actual crickets chirping, but I stand by how funny I think it is and I still love them all.
Dick Van Dyke turned down this role several times and only accepted after he was offered seven figures with back end points and the promise that he would not have to do an English accent, as he was still embarrassed about how bad his Cockney dialect was in “Mary Poppins”.
Speaking of Van Dyke being embarrassed, he apparently was teased badly about the size of his nose in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by the makeup artist and the director.
Van Dyke consulted with the plastic surgeon, but the surgeon told him that he was too well known to change his physical appearance and sent him home.
There are a lot of dance numbers in Chitty, and Van Dyke was already known for being a great dancer, but he had no formal training and didn't even start dancing until his 30s, and he was smoking two packs a day.
Yeesh!
One last thing.
The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car is owned by none other than Peter Jackson, which he was seen driving cast members from “Lord of the Rings” in New Zealand in the Chitty car blasting the same theme song as they drove.
I love to imagine Peter Jackson and Elijah Wood taking a cruise in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car, just bopping their heads to the theme song.
That's all this week, and we'll see you Saturday night.
