Protests against the war in Vietnam were rooted in the Civil Rights Movement.

The protests against the draft and against the war in Vietnam were rooted in the Civil Rights Movement. Protesters adopted many similar strategies and key figures within the Civil Rights Movement also came out against the Vietnam War. Most influential, perhaps, was Martin Luther King Jr., who stated in 1967, “If America's soul becomes totally poisoned, part of the autopsy must read: Vietnam.”
