>> All right, time to get after it.
We're at wells fargo arena in double Des Moines.
As we look at two teams, Newell-Fonda coming in the game back to the state championship again, what do they need to do to win?
>> They have to have some creative offense.
They have to figure out ways to score rather than going in the paint.
They need to have perimeter game and they need to control Audi crooks and limit others.
And Bishop Garrigan, they have done it in the tournament, averages 22 points in the first quarter of each of the games and they have to handing the full court pressure they will see from Newell-Fonda.
>> The one thing that Bishop Garrigan has not done with the decorated senior class is beat Newell-Fonda.

They're going to be highly motivated and right away, you can see it's going to be physical.
>> The bears control the opening tip, wearing their home white uniforms, and Newell-Fonda away blues with green numbers trimmed in white.

>> Found an opening, and she knocked it down from the free-throw line.
>> And Audi at the high post, will kick it to the corner, and Bishop Garrigan can reset.

>> Five on the shot clock, and it's winding down.

Here's crooks, knocked away, and hand on the bull, and here comes Newell-Fonda.
Sievers.
Left it short.
And this is going to go back to Bishop Garrigan.
We have ourselves a ball game here.
>> We sure do.
You know, Newell-Fonda is not Baeking down.
They are getting back side help.
Back pass inside, coming from behind, and getting the block is Hogrefe, and able to get it the other way, and you have seen multiple times when the ball goes inside to crooks, getting the backside rotation defensively.

Freshman, they have probably seen it in the stands and it's a different type of pressure they are going up against.
>> Jungers picks up the foul.

To lob it in, crooks.
That's all you do.
Audi said feed me high.
And she lands it.
All six points out of crooks.

Hogrefe.

Can't get the shot.
And the rebound to Newell-Fonda.

>> That's twice they have not slowed down Joyce and she's been able to get it inside.
Couldn't knock it down, but they're going to have to try to find her right away and get her stopped right at the half court line.
>> Bishop Garrigan, the pace just doesn't seem like the way they wanted.
Three ball off the mark, and fingertips.
>> I agrow, it's probably not the case that Bishop Garrigan would like to play it.
They would like to be a little slower tempo than this.
But the way that Newell-Fonda speeds up, you foul in that trap to play in that game.
>> Bartek and HINDers back in the game for the mustangs.
The junior on the drive.
That will be deflected out.
It will stay with Newell-Fonda.
>> You can't be content to stay and wait for the ball to come to you.
You have to go and meet the ball against this defense.
>> Walker.
Play around the perimeter.
Hinders to the top of the three, and three of the mark.
For Mia walker.
Joyce has her hands full here for Bishop Garrigan.
>> She does.
She is getting all the pressure of having to bring the bull down against that full court pressure, and Mia walker is right there, and she needs to get somebody to come to the middle so she can relieve some of that pressure, get it to the middle of the floor so you have options to get another outlet pass.
>> They get it to crooks.
She will work her way inside, and hinders deflected it, and it belongs to Newell-Fonda.
Here come the mustangs, inside, left alone.
>> Forgot about her.
They came down, and didn't fill in, in the middle of the lane.
>> Capesius with the feed.
And Audi crooks will go to the line to shoot a pair.
>> You can go up and you can block it, and running, the defensive transition is not there for the golden bears.
>> Crooks able to knock down the free throw.
She has now 75 points here at state tournament.
Audi with 29 rebounds as well.
>> Coming in this bull game, she needed 28 points to be the all time leading scorer in a tournament, 95 points is an all time record hold in a tournament.
>> Knocked down by Mia walker and Newell-Fonda with their first lead.
Walker will go to the line.
You think the senior's fired up?
>> Missed out a year ago.
They got beat in the semifinals.
High-low action.
And the kick out.
And the one thing that Newell-Fonda is doing, they're moving, sliding, finding the openings, floating to the open spot on the floor.
>> Walker knocks down the free throw, on the season.
Just a 36% free throw shooter.
The senior, you saw playing with some passion, able to put her team up by two, and looks confident there on each shot.
Now Mary walker will come in for her sister.
If Newell-Fonda can set up their press, it's highly effective.
>> Yeah, when you score and you set up your press, that is very helpful.
>> Layup, not there, Capesius will track it down.
Look to put it on the floor but it's going to be called for a travel.
The boy, some intense pressure here tonight by Newell-Fonda.
Four state championships in their history.
You know, it used to be when Newell-Fonda get to the state championship, it didn't go so well.
They turned things around with Dick Jungers, and as a coach, he reached there 11 times and Brooks blocks that one away.
And a foul, going to be called against Bishop Garrigan.
This goes against Bartolo, her first.
This is the third time in the last four years they have met in the state championship.
They get it inside, and how about that quick bucket by Jungers, her first basket of the night.
>> Jungers get inside of Zoe Montag.
Great inbound play as she is able to shield her away and take the inside position.
>> Here is Capesius, the kick out, the three ball.
No, crooks was on the sideline.
Bishop Garrigan will turn it over again.
13-8.
>> We talked about these two teams being very high scoring.
Both of them average, 73, 74 points a game.
Not sure this is going to be played at that level.
>> A lot of defense mixed in, and they are very good defensively, and lead the state tournament in holding their opponents down.
Shot clock off.
Sievers out of bounds.
It will go to Bishop Garrigan.
Some 3.6 to play here in the opening quarter.
Joyce, a three quarter court heave, and it will come up short, and the number two seed has a five-point lead on the defending state champion.
We played one quarter.
Let's turn it over to Paul Yeager standing by.
>> Thank you very much, B.J., thank you, Laura.
I was worried for you, B.J., we have to send you water, the tempo we were having.
Some all right -- the semifinals.

They opponent would come, and a game against St. Mary's.
Put in a lot of points and reached up, grabbed it and owned the boards.
Even when she was quadruple teamed, it wasn't enough.

We're going to try, and thank you.
And the tea is nice, isn't it?
>> Absolutely.
>> It's nice.
Well, we did have -- it was like a track meet.
Track starts -- it's already begun.
Three times the lead is tied and three lead changes.
>> You look at that, and six turnovers for Bishop Garrigan.
>> Sievers will pull up and crooks with a rebound.
>> That is her sixth rebound of the night so far.
>> Molly Joyce to go to work, and finding crooks on the block, and Audi, can't get it to foul, and the second shot is there.
And crooks has all ten of Bishop Garrigan's points.
>> She never gives up anything.
She's right back there at it, and doesn't take anything for granted and continues to play on until the bull goes through the hoop.
>> Hinders at the high post.
She's going to take on the senior and crooks.
Now they back away.
Shot clock winding down, this is walker.
Can't get it to fall.
Capesius hands it off to Joyce, and rebound, crooks, up and in and it's a one-point game.
Audi crooks.
>> That's the luxury they have.
They can put up the perimeter shots and knowing they you've got a rebounder underneath, and Audi crooks, go ahead and shoot it with confidence from the outside and if it comes ouch the rim, you've got somebody there who has put themselves in god rebounding position.
>> Errant pass, turned over.
And Newell-Fonda again, a mad dash.
Here come the subs.
Emma Erickson back in the game along with IZ Delabar tech.
>> A look coming off the back rim and if you're Newell-Fonda, I mean that's a luxury, I said, for Bishop Garrigan.
You do your best to try to start it farther away if you can do that, but crooks does a good job positioning herself in the lane to get rebounds.
>> It will be tied up, and possession arrow in favor of GTS Bishop Garriganed good show of sportsmanship, and a spot on the back.
The teams know each other very well, they're fighting it out and competitive here tonight, but friends off the court.
>> Looking for a towel.
There is PEFR perspiration out on the court.
Nice job by the crew.
Andrew cane, brandon Smith, Adam walderback.
Not only do they officiate, a little court crew.
>> A couple times this week, we had to have the trainers come out, a little blood on the court.
Clean that up.
So it's been a very competitive tournament all week long.
>> Looking to bring it up, Capesius, and a three ball by Montag and knocks it down.
The freshman coming through.
>> Montag, nine points in the semifinals.
That is one of the shooters from the perimeter, and a big answer from Jungers.
Just when you think you have it turned in your direction, back with a big one.
>> Crooks right in the paint and we'll go to the line to shoot two.
Audi with the great hands.
>> We said it from day one, we freshman.
Just can't get over the fact that what great hands sheep has.
The she can pull in anything, and the pass coming from her teammates and off the rim, she can bring the ball occasionally if she needs to.
She's got a really good skill set.
>> Bishop Garrigan out in front again.
They go to the left, Hogrefe.
>> They have Jungers down in the box, and double-team, left Hogrefe open.
>> Capesius, left it out for no one in particular, and this is going to be tied up, and possession error, Newell-Fonda.
>> You always have to know where everybody is.
Even if they're behind you, you have to be aware they're going to be closing in on you from behind.
They get a lot of steals that way, poking it away to a teammate.
>> One-point lead for Newell-Fonda.
They've got the ball.
P Sievers going to the high post in Jungers.
Joes to the foul line.
Hogrefe can't get it to foul and rebound, grabbed by Capesius.
Now Joyce having to work against the press, will blitz by it.

>> Capesius, in to Joyce.
Right back to Abby.
Now to crooks.
Oh, Audi starting to really eat up.
That record's in jeopardy.
20 points now for Audi crooks.
Three off the mark.
Just like that, Bishop Garrigan back to a seven-point lead, and Sievers inside, and in the slot.
This is going to belong to Bishop Garrigan.
There's some emotion out on the court right now.
>> Lany Hogrefe, fired up and no shot clock now.
29 seconds left on the game clock.
FM Joyce, backwards, bodied by Seavers and a shade under 20 seconds to play, and that is going to put Bishop Garrigan at the line in the single M bonus here.
Wow, this is -- this is big for Bishop Garrigan.
For Joyce to she will dump it in, and the jumper -- the skip pass to the top new for Seavers, game.
>> Oh, MINCHTS BFRT horn goes off -- Bartek taking it, knowing the clock is winding down.
And I believe VAR tech will SHEES there's herself at the free-throw line.

There to shoot two.
46% on the season and it's really a lone flip and when you don't have teammates on the line with you.

But I think things are moving along way and starting to get in a throw of offense and Audi is starting to finish under NEETH.
We have to keep it up and get back on defense.

Walk me through the FWLOK and you have to trust that Audi's going to be there, and give GRUCH SFWRIM and head coach there of gonzaga, and incredible run there.

Testimony.
>> I hey that Alexis conway semifinal when she scored those points.
That was the first year Iowa PBS covered the tournament and we are in our tenth season of telling stories of young Iowaans, and we will tell you about a new TIGE tall KREERZ we have called in their wards.
She got her first show horse named chicken.
Together, the two have earned many challenges and top rankings at local and national shows.
>> I love horses, I love what I do and I believe if you love it, you're doing it right.
God has given me an amazing life and so many amazes opportunities, and not only horses but in all areas of my life, and I'm thankful for that.
I cannot wait to see what the future will bring for my equestrian career and I'm so excited to continue my passion.
>>> Great work by the crew to get the stories and also for the hustle to get the headset on head coach Dick Jungers.
Your team is back out early from the locker room.
What did you talk about?
>> I feel like you're doing things really well.
You know, we need to box out better and defensively, I like the tenacity of the press and we have been getting good looks, and you know, we're right there.
And we just need to make a few more plays, and get the pace going our way.
>> That is exactly where I was going to go.
Speed versus size is how this one -- you are trying to outrun.
How do you feel about the second half wearing out the team?
>> Of course we hope that is a good key for our success.
They are very good.
They are the best of the best right now, and if we keep allowing them to do the things they want to do, it's an advantage for them and if we get it our way, we can get it back to our direction.
>> Thank you so much.
>> That is head coach Dick Jungers from Newell-Fonda.
We thank him for his time here in the first half.
Help me out here, Phoenix.
We will have highlights in a moment and we have a could things to do.
I want to let you know that all of the halftime pageantry, awards and special features are brought to you by Iowa PBS.
Take a moment to call or go online and make a pledge right now to support Iowa PBS.
You can also use the QR code that is right there on the screen.
I used to do weather.
I remember how into point.
It ensures we can continue this and other KOV RANL for generations to come.
We will be back after this.
>>> Let's see how they were able to put together the first half run.
Independent was a game of running.
One that was impressive to see, and laney Hogrefe, again, she could have six points in the first half.
And I think we just showed you everyone, all in transition, just the way it works for Bishop Garrigan.
It's Audi crooks.
She could have 20 points in the first half.
She is also collecting nine rebounds.
She was doing what her coach said collecting, getting second chance points.
Coach Jungers talked about having to box out better, and that is the few from up here.
Let's go up to the court.
The final half of basketball of 2023.
>> Oh, man.
Making me weep.
We have a fun second half in store.
>> We do, and you look at -- I think the one telling one is the points in the point.
And that's where Bishop Garrigan has been able to build the lead, and coach talked about they need to box out and get the rebounding total to where it's a little more even.
>> Audi crooks, just eight points away by our math of becoming the -- well, I say it's your math.
>> It's my math.
>> We have a game here.
We will get it down to five, and Mia walker has nine.
>> And they did a good job with the full court pressure.
She how they set things up andfy that Soo a different wrinkle.
>> Mustangs with a rebound, and push it up the floor, and con NKT, and draw contact.
On the floor.
Nobody in any real foul trouble to speak of as Mary walker will toe the line.
Going on to play basketball and softball at B Mack, she is actually going to go down a few sports.
She plays five sports.
>> Will take a bit of a break, and sister will also go as well and play softball only.
>> We have a one possession game here as the start of the second half just getting under way.
If you're Bishop Garrigan, you have pressure, and they say, right back, as crooks gets the bucket.
>> They took their time, get through the pressure.
And a couple passes and you lob it in, down to the post.
>> Take a step back.
The reason I said it's your math and not my math, my math would have been way wrong.
Rebound by crooks.
Something she got really good at.
Since her freshman year.
Keeping that ball high, not allowing the opponents to take it away and the mustangs did it on this end, and Sievers will dump it in the block, and walker can't get it to fall and bears will give it up to Joyce.
>> And shot altered by crooks and they had an opportunity, and mismatch down low, and Jungers missed it a little bit.
>> Underneath, crooks got a great feet from Capesius, and Bishop Garrigan just like that, back up by seven and underneath, walker gets a lip.
>> They're going to try to push tempo, and wear them down and see if they can get tired and they their pace of basketball.
>> And JOUMP, with a jumper, and Jungers will rip it away, and up Seavers to run, and we're going to see a travel.
>> A good break.
Could not get the steps right on the lane on the left side.
>> Dick Jungers goes to his bench, coming back in, and hinders, Erickson, Isabel Bartek, I beg your pardon, and able to find Bartek and layup good by Erickson.
The senior gets her first bucket of the championship game and the bears try to get the bull in play, and I think Audi took one to the eye.
>> She did, but hung on and had the presence of minute to get the ball out to her guard.
She's going to shake that one off.
That's what you do, you inbound the ball to the tallest person on the look and let her look, right there, and just got the finger right there, and hangs on to the basketball.
And kept the play moving.
>> Joyce at the line, and Joyce hits both free throws here.
Back to a five-point game.
>> She hangs around and almost gets a steal there.
You have to WAF them coming from behind.
You have so secure the basketball, and have to know they're on your back all the time.
You can't hear them and I said it I think every year that Newell-Fonda has played in this championship game.
Something we learned when I was playing college basketball against the press.
You can't hear them, you can't see them but they're always there.
They're always on your backside.
You have to know that.
>> Joyce, turning on the jets.
The lob to crooks.
And count it!
Hogrefe will pick up the foul set up by Joyce with an excellent feed.
>> They have one the play a few thousand times in their careers together.
It works so nicely, and Joyce can bring it in, and makes the defense decide, are you going to pick her up or double down on Audi crooks and you can lob it up there, and she can go get it, it's a sure play you're going to connect.
>> Four-point game.
Severs to walker.
Challenge, can't get it to foul, and rebound for Capesius will be tied up and possession arrow will keep it with Bishop Garrigan.
>> STIM scrapping, going after every loose bull.
They're not going to let up in the back court.
>> A lob underneath to crooks.
Can't get it and does get a second timer and now she has 28 points, which is a milestone in statement tournament history.
>> Get the lob inside.
She gets a little too far underneath.
Rebound and a foul, she's fired up about it and you're right.
The 28 points makes her the all-time leading scorer in a tournament career.
95 was the number that was held by SHELTy and Christopherson.
>> Hogrefe, this one on the deck and the bears come away with it.
Ahead to Joyce, attack and go to the line.
And hit the deck hard.
This is the Detroit pistons out here.
Hard fouls when you go to the rack.
>> You know, Newell-Fonda thought they had the easy layup and just that quick, in the blink of an eye, Audi crooks blocks the shot, and molly Joyce able to run the break.
Doesn't cash in here on the free throw.
>> Bishop Garrigan allowing Newell-Fonda to hang around here, unable to hit some free throws as of late.
Mia walker picked up a couple moment a go, and Seavers, got it.
>> Just a little flip back and Sievers is coming from behind, and knocks in a big three.
>> Mary walker, and Newell-Fonda will pick up their 15th foul with 3:56 to play here in the third.
>> One foul for for Bishop Garrigan.
>> Joyce in back court.
She has mad handles.
>> She really does.
She has god control of the basketball.
>> The lob, crooks for two.
>> As soon as she got over half court, she looked up, pointed to Audi crooks and said I'm going to send the ball your way.
Go up and get it.
>> Crooks with 30 and 11 rebounds.
Foul going to be called on Newell-Fonda.
>> That's a long time to be in the benews, a big advantage.
>> The lob, crooks and that will be off, and Newell-Fonda will get it back.
>> A tip on that one, and coming in from the backside, and back off crooks, and out of bounds.
>> Looking to work with it, and too strong.
Pushing Bishop Garrigan in the back court.
>> She didn't want to get too close to the sideline.
She knew that trap was going to come.
Took too much time.
>> And a bucket.
>> It looked like they were able to get crooks to come out of the middle of the lane.
Play for playing with the defense, and left the medical open.
>> Look at the points in the point.
And outscored Newell-Fonda by 20 and it's still a three-point game.
Could get a little closer, and that is tipped back, and JOINS will end up with it, and goes to crooks.
32 on the night for crooks.
>> Smart play bay freshman, Bartolo, as she lost the handle on that and get it back, and now we will get a charge.
>>> You make the long pass down in the middle.
>> Laura, I know that it looks easy, getting the ball and just throwing it up high and letting Audi crooks have it.
It takes work for players to keep the ball high and not low as Audi again with the terrific hands, able to haul that one in.
>> They have a figure out a way to stop that.
If they don't they will continue to pound it in the paint and get it into crooks and you're right.
They had to tract that.
Because you can't get too air underneath.
You can't get tight late because a defender will get after it in.
The players know how to get the ball inside to crooks hands.
>> Sasha Alesch coming in the game.
She will check in for Montag.
And Audi making it look easy with the 34 points tonight.
Underneath, Jungers, able to get the basket.
Audi says she spends a lot of time working on her game.
Usually at two hours at a crack, as they dump it down to crooks again, who will bang it if for two.
>> Those two have played a lot of basketball together.
They know exactly how to work with one another.
>> Layup not there, Capesius with the rebound.
>> They don't see it, and sacha Alesch was wide open, and by herself, and Newell-Fonda got the steal.
They put so much pressure on.
They couldn't see Alesch had broken free.
>> Inside 55 seconds to play in the quarter.
Joyce on the drive.
Can't get it to foul.
But will go to the line to shoot two.
Now here's where the bears can try to close it out.
They're independent the bonus for the rest of the way.
Free throw shooting tonight, it's gone over the rail.
Now with eight is molly Joyce.
>> And eight assists to go with it.
>> Amy Bartolo, the freshman, will collect in, and Joyce knocks both free throws in.
Nine-point contest.
Largest lead for her Bishop Garrigan.
Mustangs look to execute, Sievers, can't get FOIT foul.
That will be deflected, and go to Bishop Garrigan.
The.
>> The official that was underneath was blocked, and the official on the side got the call.
Coach Jungers is not happy about the way it went.
>> Inside 30 seconds to play.
There is a secretary difference between the shot and the game.
It doesn't platter.
Crooks gets the bucket.
Now a 11-point lead for Bishop Garrigan.
Starting to pull away.
Ten seconds to go in the quarter.
Wick shot by walker, can't get it to go and Sievers with a rebound, inside to walker will be pushed and that is just going to be the third team foul gulled against Bishop Garrigan here in the half.
>> You have four seconds to try to get a quick shot.
Maybe try to knock down a three to give you a little lift.
Heading and the fourth.
>> And what point do you give Audi crooks a little rest?
>> I think -- I think you're going to see her get a little rest when we get to the first fourth quarter and give her rest and let her sit a couple minutes and bring her back in.
>> She and Joyce have played the into way here for Bishop Garrigan.
Sievers with a wrap around, hinders at the horn.
It gets.
That cuts it down to sing the digits, 55-46.
We have the final eight coupling up in a moment, and first, Paul Yeager is standing by with a very, very special guest.
>> Here to give you another break, B.J.
Here to give you another break.
I know how busy it's been.
And gene burgers joining us now, and director, you are busy, thank you for squeezing us here in, gene, I had one coach tell me.
Audi crooks, once in a generation type player.
But as a person, she is phenomenal.
>> Phenomenal.
I had the opportunity to go to GARrigan and do a workshop with the team, she is a kind started person.
>> When you know how it is when an athlete gets a lot of attention and it's all about sports.
She handles all interest.
East not the only young woman who is able to do that.
What makes you proud to see them handle the questions the reporters ask em them.
>> Like they have fun with it and they are honest and they tell everybody how they feel.
They have a great group.
I'm so proud of the Iowa girls I have met.
That I have been awesome.
>> A lot of new things and a lot of traditions.
How do you feel the tournament went?
>> Asome.
Weren't the crowds amazing and it comes back to the community, and SHOM showing up for the girls and the semifinals, I don't flow if we have had a better semifinal round at games and that stretched in the championships.
>> We had a couple close games.
>> Yeah, we have.
>> Close games.
I love it.
Jean Berger, thanks.
Let's go to the fourth quarter.
Comes down to the final eight minutes, B.J.
and Laura.
>> Thanks, we are looking forward to it.
The final eight here.
Can Newell-Fonda come from behind?
They have been in this spot before.
The bears in 2020 led Newell-Fonda 54-40 going to the fourth and the mustangs outscored them 25-9 to win the state championship back in 2020.
>> Well, they need that effort here in this ball game.
If they want to be the state champs.
>> Let's see what happens down the stretch.
Out on the floor, starting five for each team out there.
It's walker, Mia, Sievers, Hogrefe and Jungers, and avoids crooks, and rebound to hinders, fouled.
And on the floor for Bishop Garrigan, Montag Joyce, Capesius HOvey and the foul.
>> That might be one thing that Bishop Garrigan thinks about.
Can get tact so they can get to the free-throw line, and score while the clock is stopped.
>> Skip pass.
Deflected and rebound, bounce pass inside, Jungers, too strong, and the kick out to Sievers.
Spin it around the perimeter.
30 on the shot clock and a steal.
Boy, Hovey just stepped right in front of that pass.
>> Yeah, you saw it initially, and the strip pass is there, and Hovey gets in the passing line.
>> Capesius has it deflected away.
And stays with Bishop Garrigan.
Audi, back to the left, a little spin cycle.
>> There she gave you a little taste of what she can do with the ball in her hands, and puts it on the ground, and a big FWLUKT for Newell-Fonda.
>> Marry walker able to make it down, making it an eight-point game.
>> Joyce gets it across and lob it to crooks, and one.
M Audi with 40.
>> They they make the pass, the lob pass again, and I'm sure every one of the GRDS and perimeter players have worked on that to get it inside to crooks.
She just keeps it up above her head, and there's nothing you can do about it.
You can get up there as much as you want to try to block it.
If you do, you will probably get contact and foul her.
>> Audi crooks headed to Iowa state.
Made her decision over the summer.
Highly recruited player in the state, separated Iowa state, a lot of times, the general interesting in her life.
That is the biggest difference.
Had a ton of offers.
Here is Seavers inside, walker.
Going to be fouled by crooks.
>> When you're making a decision to go to college, you want to go somewhere where you're comfortable and she felt comfortable at Iowa state.
It's close to home so family and trends can continue to watch their career.
You want to have a place where you care about and they care about you.
>> Free throw knocked down by Mia walker.
And as each team goes to the bench.
The freshman for Bishop Garrigan emmi Bartolo will check in the game.
Newell-Fonda back in with Hogrefe, Emma Erickson and also coming in, Isabel Bartek will be spell Mia walker.
>> You asked will they get crooks on the bench?
I don't think so.
Not this this game.
They have been able to use utilize her so well, and Newell-Fonda has not been able to slow her down.
That is really the first time they have been able to slow down the ball when it gets in the front court with a double-team.
>> Two time-outs remaining for Bishop Garrigan.
Let's go to the bench.
>> Just drive your legs in there as much as you can, get her to get her off balance, and now, defensively, here we go, track that first pass.
Team on three, one, two, three.
>> They got a plan.
For Audi.
>> Got a plan.
They're going to go at her, drive at her.
See if they can get her off balance.
Maybe draw another foul or two on her.
>> Audi making a very strong bid to be miss Iowa basketball.
LOFK of course will be announced in a few weeks, and molly Joyce able to contribute.
Back to 11.
>> A nice give and go, hit a high most and she comes around for a handoff and a clear lane to the hoop.
>> Try toy measure, and to Jungers and scoop and score by Bartek.
>> From the backside, saw it go over the top of Jungers and able to GATH THEART one in.
>> Newell-Fonda needing stops and a ten second call again.
>> They're turning up the pressure so when she sees the double-team, she can dump it over the top to them.
>> Jean burger mentioned the crowds, and Mali jade sent to the coach and said I can't here.
The proud is ranking it up, and the dumpdown.
It will be tied up, possession arrow gives it to Bishop Garrigan.
>> Abby Capesius, she is doing a lot of really nice things defensively.
>> Time Newell-Fonda.
Let's hear the coach.
>> We have to keep getting 50/50 balls, and listen, this weird thing they got this up here, we're OTHD press break.
>> Listen, we have Avi and molly they come out in the normal press here, and Ollie's out, we're going normal with it.
If they come out -- >> I'm not taking it out?
>> What?
>> Am I taking it out?
>> Get it back to her, and it's OLD press break, sideline, and we can dive off it.
You can get them to do what you're doing.
Let's go, keep attacking.
>> Attack, attack, attack.
>> Come on, we need to finish!
>> You heard they were going to continue to attack.
But I like they are going to try to bring something to the middle against the press break.
They had a little difficulty with it the last couple possessions.
>> The seen major class trying to dig it out.
They have been to Newell-Fonda twice in the state championship game.
>> Joyce gets her pocket picked and a towel against Bishop Garrigan.
>> You have to protect it, and try to make the dribble, and defense pinches down.
Knocks it away from Joyce.
>> Sievers going to work.
Now the dump, and looks to go inside, and a foul, a push.
Fouled against BSH BSH, that will put measure measure at the line.
The M clock stopped.
4:1620 play here and the bears lead it by nine.
>> This is where they want to get it to the free-throw line.
Get it to where you want to shoot from the charity stripe.
Clock stopped.
You can put a few points on the board, see if you can get a stop defensively, and BSH BSH just needs to continue push the bag up the floor.
>> And denies.
>> Tries to jump it inside, and that was huge for them.
>> To crooks and foul will be called on Newell-Fonda.
So M Audi DROOKs will go to the line here.
5 of 8 tonight.
Able to knock the front end down.
M trying to put it back to ten.
Here come the mustangs.
Seavers.
Now the deep three by Jungers.
Can't get it to foul.
Seavers with a Rebound.
Kip pass to the other corner, this three by walker.
Left it short.
And it's going to be ruled a tie ball.
It will stay with Newell-Fonda.
>> Both of these three point attempts, Jungers had to reload.
She didn't get a good, clean pass and thought about it and when they skipped it across to walker, the same thing.
Had to think about it and readjust before she let it fly.
>> That shot altered and now a foul on back court.
But crooks again -- just as she's done all season, a time-out will be taken here.
They will have one time-out remaining with 2:31 to play.
Let's take a look and listen inside that the Bishop Garrigan huddle.
>> Guys, we lax.
Strong with the ball.
We're in the locus the rest of wait, keep attacks.
Keep attacking, okay?
Bali, we have three minutes left.
I know you're tired.
You can dote it three TINTs.
Keep coming to me, passes, strong with the bull, if you can keep splitting that and getting down, do it.
When get OELT an defense in the half court, run, move it.
Next time we're DOD, run it's.
Kansas down here.
Trust it, you guys, trust it, get it, finish, okay?
Know who you are guarding.
You get that rebound like that.
>> Coach knows that his players are tired just because of the tempo and the pace of the ball game, and everybody on the bench knows, yes, everybody has three minutes left in them to get the TRP and you have to gut it out no matter how hired you are.
But I like the fact that he said, come and meet every pass.
You have to step to it and they get it in the front court, they will run a little time off.
M. >> Lob it to crooks, and put back.
>> Good lucky there, the pass off the rim and crooks right in position to grab the errant pass to get the put back.
>> 46 points for Audi crooks.
>> Newell-Fonda now starting to look for the three ball to see if they can climb back in quickly.
Think have shooters out there that can launch it from behind the arc.
>> 11-point lead Capesius to the corner, and Bartolo can attack, and comets up short and the mustangs need to start cashing in.
Sievers will try, rebound to Capesius who had a big night tonight on the glass and travel will be called on Joyce.
>> Just the pressure, the relentst pressure is right there, and it does wear you down.
Rebound, rooks, deflected away by Jungers.
>> Walker's shot, not there.
To mustangs, to crooks and one.
>> You get that full head of team as you come double to the floor, able to maneuver through that defense, and looks and just throws a lob pass, knowing our team meet's going to be there.
He's going to go up and get it and gets it and the and one.
>> Audi crooks at the line.
With 49.
What a Wray to go out for one of the most decorated players in Iowa high school basketball.
And the foul going to be called here on crooks and particularly walker was taking it in strong.
>> Still in attack mode trying to get it inside.
Wanted the bucket to go to get to the free-throw line for the traditional three-point play, but Audi crooks said no, you're not bringing it in here.
>> Walker now with 11.
You think of Audi crooks and the basketball much much than than Paul Grigger, discussing quite the singer.
A lot of times this year, could sing the national anthem and a couple times helps out with cleanup after games at Bishop Garrigan high school.
>> What we have gotten to know about her at the statement tournament, a really, quality young lady, and just does a little bit of everything for her community.
>> Going to try to drop 51 on the game and stepped out of bounds.
Still holding at 49-49.
>> Going to get some of your three point shooters back in the ball game.
>> So you think about it, 49 points, a new championship record.
Singer game, our cold leer used it at four.
>> We just talked about that before we went on air, and she said, you know, records with >> Lob ahead to Joyce.
Now it's going to be keep away.
So Bishop Garrigan in fine fashion to do something they have never done, which is beaten Newell-Fonda with this senior class.
Headline by KROOX, what a run.
>> Really has been.
It's just been fun to watch.
These players, we have seen them a lot.
We have seen them over the last four years and we have seen them grow and develop as a team, and it's fun to watch both teams.
>> Brandon Schwab calling his final time-out here.
And we will take a steal, get another good look.
I don't want to foul.
You understand?
One good shot and get a steal.
Play it away.
There you go.
Team on three.
One, two, three.
>> Nick Jungers sending off his seenons and they had quite a defecated class.
Four seniors on the roster.
Getting back to the championship game.
>> Knowing the program and the programs he has put in to place, in the lower grades -- >> Yeah.
>> They will just replace the seniors that are going to garage wait and there's going to be a new crew that comes in and works through the lineup in the starting lineup and they're going to play the same style and they're going to have the same results.
>> You can see the Bishop Garrigan bench starting to realize that they're 33 seconds away from another state title.
>> That makes it tough when you're shooting free throws, knowing you're this close to having it all there.
Misses both.
Rebound down to the mustangs.
>> Need to get somebody set up for a three-pointer.
>> And they are able to knock down that bucket.
All pretty much said and done.
The Bishop Garrigan golden bears are going to win back-to-back state championships.
Audi crooks will finish with 49 and there's your class 1a state champion again.
What a season.
>> Really a great season and you can see, the tours of joy, but also, know, this run with this group of seniors has come to an end and it comes to an end with another championship.
And they're going to celebrate it.
>> So the state champions and the Bishop Garrigan golden bears.
They will finish the year at 26-1.
What a year for Iowa high school football again.
Keeps on getting better.
>> It really does.
Just amazing how great the basketball is here in the state of Iowa.
Class 1a up through 5a.
We do a lot of games throughout the course of the basketball season, and every year, we're impressed with the type of talent we see.
>> Let's go back to the public address announcer Rex baker.
>> All right, the all tournament team from Newell-Fonda, KIERRA Jungers.
From Bishop Garrigan, molly Joyce.
From St. Mary's, Whitney Jenson.
For north Lynn, Cameron Kurt.
From Newell-Fonda, Mary walker.
The captain of your 1a championship team, from Bishop Garrigan, Audi crooks.
>> Well, she certainly left her narc Iowa high school basketball history.
>> She did, and it's been fun to watch her come up from her freshman year all the way to this point.
And see how she has grown and developed her game and you know, fans around the state of Iowa, going to get to watch her four more years at Iowa state.
That will be a treat.
>> There is your all tournament team.
As -- now the question is, who's going to be the top producer in the 1a game, I think I know the answer.
I can't tell you at home just yet.
>> I think I know the answer as well, but we'll wait for the announcement.
Our math was correct, and our math was correct early, see if it's correct again.
>> Presenting the award, day already Anderson from the Iowa girls athletic union.
This year's top producer from a 1a championship game, from Bishop Garrigan, Audi crooks.
>> Nailed that one.
