If so, nursing may be the perfect career for you.
Hi, I'm Danielle Reynolds, and I'm a clinical nurse for the behavioral health unit at Dayton Children's Hospital.
We are gonna take an inside look at what I do every day.
As a clinical nurse, I collaborate with many different people, including psychiatrists, medical doctors, therapists, and mental health techs, to help treat patients with mental health and behavioral disorders.
On a typical day, I do daily assessments on my patients to monitor their progress and assist them with tasks, like taking medications and going to therapy appointments.
I also work with our psychiatrists to help educate patients and their families on managing behavioral health disorders both in and out of the hospital.
I admit new patients who come into the ER or from specialty floors.
My favorite part about my job is being able to help other people.
It is so fulfilling to give children positivity and support that they may not always receive in their home life.
Children remember any small interaction they have with someone, and they hold on to that for a long time.
We work with kids from all walks of life and treat patients with many traumas and difficult diagnoses.
The kids I work with are not necessarily physically sick.
They just need more mental support.
We have seen an increase in the number of children diagnosed with mental health disorders.
So, we admit these kids to help them find the best resources and treatment regimens so they can cope better with daily life.
Some days are hard, but I work with a very supportive team here at the hospital.
We are always there for each other on stressful days.
Self-care is also a key part of my daily routine.
I have to take care of myself first so I can provide the best patient care possible.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends, and my job as a clinical nurse allows me to have new experiences and travel with my family.
In fact, you can make 40 to $60,000 per year, depending on your position, but you'll need to study and work hard.
School is challenging, but it's worth it.
And my advice to anyone thinking about going into nursing is just do it.
This is such a rewarding career.
Nursing provides a wide range of job choices, and you can always grow professionally.
Here at Dayton Children's, I can take classes to become certified in a skill, I could train to become an educator, charge nurse, or manager once I have enough experience, or I could even go back to school to become a nurse practitioner.
There are many possibilities for this career, and you get the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life.
I hope you enjoyed learning with me today.
See you next time.
