Turn catalogs and magazines into colorful, original pieces of art by creating collages.
You know those pretty seed catalogs that come to your home this time of year? Once you've leafed through them, instead of throwing them out, do what Nora Peters, director of the Millvale Community Library does. She turns them into colorful, original pieces of art by creating collages. You can do this with any recycled printed materials!

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- Hi, I'm Nora Peters.
I'm the Director of the Melville Community Library.
And this is my teachable moment.
Spring is here and today we're going to be celebrating by making Seed catalog collages.
You can request these catalogs for free from seed companies but you might already have a couple of lying around your house.
What we're going to do first is take some time to flip through the pages.
Look at the different shapes, sizes and colors of the plants and vegetables.
When you find something that you like, carefully rip out the page and take a pair of scissors and cut out what you're interested in.
This is a great place to work on our scissor skills.
You might even find something surprising like this yellow cauliflower.
Once you have a nice collection, you can start your collage.
We can sort our pieces by shape, size, color type or maybe even make a silly face.
That's my favorite thing to do.
You can make collages like this out of anything.
Old newspapers, recycled magazines, even grocery store coupons.
The most important thing is to be creative and have fun.
