A proposed mine promises jobs in Minnesota, but are the environmental risks too great?
Upstream of Duluth along the St. Louis River, the Mesabi Range is one of Minnesota’s legendary iron ranges with a history of iron mining. Now, a proposed copper mine promises jobs in a region that needs them — but it also poses threats to the environment, and lawsuits have the project on hold. The issue is before the state’s Supreme Court, and if it moves forward, more new mines could follow.
