- Originally, there was only going to be one book, "Magpie Murders," but when we started to think about TV production, the producer, Jill Green, asked me for a second book as a sort of backup, so I thought up "Moonflower Murders."

And in the end, we shot both of them.

- We didn't know that there was gonna be more than one series.

- And it was on the very last day of the shoot of "Moonflower Murders" in Crete that Lesley Manville said, she'd had such a good time making it, and she liked the character of Susan Ryeland so much, "Could we go again?"

- The last time we saw Susan at the end of "Moonflower Murders," the audience has been left kind of not convinced that she's living the life that she is best suited to.

- Susan Ryeland has come back from Crete after breaking up with Andreas and is now looking for work once again, and she is asked to work with a young writer on a continuation novel.

Elliot Crace is taking over the Atticus Pund mistress.

But Elliot Crace is trouble.

First of all, his grandmother was Miriam Crace, a very, very famous writer of children's books.

And secondly, he has been totally damaged by her and by his childhood in the terrible and horrible Marble Hall.

- You know, Alan Conway put people into his books, people that he knew, but it was never in a pleasant way.

It was those games that got him killed, Elliot.

- What about it?

- Belmar is an anagram of marble, as in Marble Hall.

- It might be.

- I'm trying to help you, Elliot.

So because Susan's working with Elliot on the continuation Atticus Pund novel that he's writing, she can kind of start to see that the facade that this family have created is not actually the truth.

That this family has lived a lie.

- And then the second part, of course, is the book within a book.

And what we have here is the book that Elliot is writing where he takes Atticus Pund to, in the book, it's the South of France, but in the TV series, it's Corfu, to solve the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont, who has been poisoned in her beautiful garden in the Chateau Belmar.

- So it's not an Alan Conway book, but it is an Atticus Pund book.

- Someone else taking on these books from Alan Conway and writing a new Atticus Pund mystery.

Well, what could possibly get wrong?
