- Bug!
- (Harriet): Hello, neighbors.
Today we're going on a school trip to a community garden.
-♫We gotta try new food 'cause they might taste good♫ ♫Good♫ - Do you want to hold that one?
Good job.
- These children are picking vegetables to eat.
It's good to try new foods.
- Do all you guys want to help with the peas?
- What's this?
- That's a pea.
It's called a sugar snap pea.
- Can I eat it?
- Yes, you can.
Right here, and then pull it.
It makes it so that the whole pea plant doesn't pull off the vine.
Do you like them?
Do you and David want to do that bowl?
- Beets grow deep in the ground.
- After you put the seed in the ground, it takes four to six weeks before you get a beet.
- What do beets taste like?
- When you cook them, they get a little bit sweet like a carrot, and they're crunchy.
Yeah, I like them.
- I'm going to stick the shovel in and loosen up the soil, because you always have to loosen the soil before you pick carrots, because guess what happens if you just pull the carrot without loosening the soil.
- The root will break.
- Yes, we eat the root of the plant.
OK. - Did you know that carrots can be orange AND purple?
Don't they look wonderful?
- Oh, a nice big purple one.
Look at that.
Do you want to hold that one?
- ...in the salad bowl.
- Because vegetables grow in the ground, it's important to wash them before eating.
- Put them in the salad bowl.
- ...wash some of the ones over in that bowl still.
- Yep, just shake 'em off.
Don't squeeze 'em.
Good job, everybody.
-♫A little bit of this and a little bit of that♫ -♫We gotta try new food 'cause they might taste good♫ ♫Good♫ - Thanks for showing us the garden, everyone.
Enjoy those veggies.
-♫So good♫
