- Let's spend some time with one of our neighbors!
- Hi, my name is Jasmine and I'm here with my friend Karen and we're gonna learn how people make crayons!
Hi, Karen!
- Hi, Jasmine!
Before we go in there, we're gonna have to put on safety glasses and earplugs, because it's really loud in there.
Okay, you ready?
Alright, let's go!
This is where we make the crayons.
- Cool!
Woooooow!
- So, Jasmine, this is the factory where we make boxes and boxes of crayons that go all around the world.
We make 120 different colors right here.
- Look at all the machines!
How do you get all the colors?
- That's a great question.
Let's go see!
This machine makes the crayons out of wax.
We heat up the wax until it melts, and then we move it into these big kettles where we add just the right amount of orange color.
Then, we pump the colorful liquid into this machine.
Each of these littles holes is the exact size and shape of a crayon.
When the wax cools, it gets hard.
A big scraper takes off all the extra orange wax, then the machine pops out the crayons and a robot arm carries them to the label station.
Here, the crayons move to a big spinning wheel where they get labels put on them.
- It's like they're getting their shirts on!
So cool!
- This is where we put our crayons before they're put into the boxes.
There are the orange crayons that were just being made over there.
Now they're brought over here.
- How do you get the crayons into the boxes?
- With this machine.
- Whoa!!
- We put each color into a different slot.
Then they're sorted into a little box which is then added to a bigger box and then placed into even bigger boxes and sent to kids like you all around the world.
- Can I have one?
- Yes, of course you can have one!
Here you go.
- Fresh from the factory!
Thank you for showing me how people make crayons and for my box of crayons.
- You're welcome!
I'm so glad you came to visit us at Crayola!
- Me too.
Thanks for coming, Neighbor!
Bye!
- That was so much fun!
