We're using many layers of cardboard so that it supports the weight.
Because if it's one, it's going to bend.
If it's many, it's not going to bend, you see?

The sides of the chair need to be both stiff and strong.
When you sit on a chair, your weight pushes down on the sides, placing them in compression, like a column.
The sides must be stiff enough to prevent bending and to prevent buckling under the load.
A single sheet of cardboard will buckle.
So if Purple Team laminates or glues several sheets together, they'll make the sides of their chair thicker, increasing the stiffness to carry the load.
>> So I use contact cement.
And this helps the cardboard stay together and stay tight.
And it needs to dry.
