Hi, I'm Deysi from Design Squad, and I'm here with: This is a vacuum cleaner.
Inside the vacuum cleaner is a strong fan.
The blades on the fan move the air so then the air collects the dirt.
(vacuum starts) DAVID: If you're going to do anything with a vacuum cleaner, make sure there's an adult present.
ELLIOT: This is a piece of paper that we sliced into a ribbon.
(buzzing) It was sucking in air so quickly... And therefore it was vibrating because of all the air rushing past it.
(buzzing) The vibrations is the sound you hear.
(buzzing) We are going to repurpose the purpose of the vacuum cleaner.
Repurposing is using an item for a purpose that it was not intended to be used for.
We're going to move the tube over to here, where it will blow air out.
It's not going to create suction.
It's going to blow air.
We're feeding cornstarch in here, so it'll shoot the cornstarch into the air.
You can see that it's blowing air now.
DEYSI: We can use this blowing air to inflate things.
We took some bags, we taped them together into a huge column on a box, and now we're going to inflate them with the vacuum.
DEYSI: Let's put the tube in here, and we need to cover the hole.
(vacuum running) It's going, it's going, it's going.
Just don't break it.
Oh, watch out.
This time we're going to use clear plastic bags.
There it goes.
Let go and see if it stands on its own.
Hold on.
Timber!
Wait, it's not even.
Yeah!
It's working.
It's as straight as it can be.
Now we're going to add arms.
All right, make the hole.
David, you want to help me?
We have to make a hole first before we add the arms so the air can rush through into the arms.
This one really works.
Is this where we want it to go?
Hey, why don't we make it look like they have heads?
-Yeah!
-Okay.
There you go.
I'm drawing a smiley face on our sculpture here.
Oh, wow.
Whoo-hoo!
DEYSI: We repurposed a vacuum cleaner to make these incredible, inflatable sculptures.
