How to Watch Design Squad
Design Squad is available to stream on pbs.org and the free PBS App, available on iPhone, Apple TV, Android TV, Android smartphones, Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Fire Tablet, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, and Vizio.
Oops.
No!
I'm Nate from Design Squad, and I'm here with... Get ready for the Marshmallow Olympics.
The accuracy challenge.
And that's what we're going to try to hit-- a moving target.
ZARA: And hopefull this will get hit.
Oh!
(hits target) Yay!
NATE: The tube is a rolled-up manila file folder, held together with tape.
When A.J.
puts the marshmallow in the end of the tube, it creates a seal, so that when we put air pressure behind the marshmallow... Now puff up your cheeks and take a big breath of air.
(breathes in) That air pressure makes a force on the marshmallow and the force blasts it out of the tube.
(laughs) That was wimpy!
ZARA: So we've been having a problem with marshmallows getting too sticky.
You can get cornstarch and roll the marshmallows around.
DESI: It's making the marshmallow a lot more slippery.
ALL: Ooh.
DESI: That was a cannon!
NATE: That was awesome.
On to the next event.
Fire!
Ho!
Fire!
Whoa.
Zara, I believe you are the winner.
(tooting fanfare) We're now going to find out how many marshmallows you can shoot in ten seconds.
Go!
Ten... nine... eight... seven... six... five... four... three... two... one.
How many did you get?
DESI: Three.
ZARA: Four.
You can have lots of fun decorating your marshmallow blaster.
I mean, like you could put all these different materials: construction paper, pom-poms, stickers... ALL: Ooh!
NATE: Instructions to make your own marshmallow blaster are on the Design Squad website.
(tooting "Reveille") AJ: It's really hard to do.
NATE: Not bad!
