Hi, I'm Deysi from Design Squad.
And you've probably had this problem before.
It's a hot day and you're eating an ice cream cone, and the ice cream melts all over your hand.
Jackstack must have had the same problem because he sent us a project idea to build a device that catches melting ice cream before it runs down your ice cream cone.
Isabella8 sent this one called Cool Cone.
I am so inspired by Isabella8's Cool Cone, that I want to build a prototype of it.
A prototype is a simple model that lets you test out your ideas.
Prototypes help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your design.
Isabella8 sketched a disc that you could put on your ice cream cone that will catch all the drips.
And she attached a straw to the disc so you can drink all the melted ice cream.
To make my prototype I have some plastic to use as my disc, some tape, a straw, an ice cream cone and some scissors.
So I'm going to make a small circle.
I want to make sure that when I cut this hole, it's smaller than the cone.
Otherwise it's going to slide right through.
All right, let's try it out.
I think this is good.
Now we're going to add our straw.
I'm going to put the bendy part here so then I can just... sip away.
Boom.
I'm ready to try it out.
Huh.
It's already working.
Look.
No drips.
Now let's try it out.
That's just too taped down.
Mmm... Now I can eat my ice cream and drink my ice cream.
(slurping) Great design, Isabella8.
Send in photos of your prototypes to the Design Squad website and see what designs other kids come up with.
