- A RIVER STARTS AS A TINY STREAM MADE OF RAIN WATER LIKE THAT LITTLE STREAM OVER THERE.
THE STREAM CUTS DOWN INTO THE EARTH AND CARRIES THE SEDIMENTS, OR DIRT, DOWNSTREAM.
THIS PROCESS IS CALLED EROSION.
[together] EROSION.
- WHAT DID HE SAY?
ERASER?
EXPLOSION?
- EROSION.
- OH.
- AND AS MORE AND MORE LITTLE STREAMS FLOW INTO ONE RIVER, IT GROWS BIGGER AND BIGGER.
OUR LITTLE RIVER IS JOINING A BIGGER RIVER NOW.

A BIGGER RIVER.
- SEE HOW THIS BIGGER RIVER CUTS THROUGH THESE HILLS?
OVER TIME, RIVERS CHANGE THE LAND BY CARVING NEW PATHS FOR THEMSELVES.
SO IF THE RIVERS CARVE OUT THE LAND, WHERE DOES ALL THAT DIRT GO?
- SOMETIMES, RIVERS CARRY SO MUCH DIRT DOWNSTREAM, THEY CAN BUILD A WHOLE NEW PIECE OF LAND.
