Nearly one in five American adults claim to be connected to the internet constantly.
Whether it's social media, text messages, or work email, it is very easy to become absorbed in your smartphone and lose track of what's happening around you.
One study showed that children are three times more likely to take risks on the playground when a caregiver is preoccupied with an electronic device.
Instead, make a schedule to engage with your child free from devices.
You could establish a rule that no phones are allowed at the dinner table, or set aside time to talk or play with your child.
Read their favorite book, or watch a movie together phone free.
