- I wanna go ahead and color it.
- Okay, go ahead.
- I encourage them to use their imagination.
I give them paper and art supplies, and they draw whatever they want.
And it's morning time.
What does it sound like?
- [Daughter] Birds.
- [Father] Birds?
Oh, let's try coloring a bird then.
When they're done, they'll share their picture with us.
And then they'll tell us a story about what they do.
- It was fall, and they were flying a kite.
- [Father] Oh, do you wanna draw a kite, then?
Sometimes, it's made up, or they'll talk about something that actually happened.
This is a great way for them to be creative, and it helps the storytelling.
Their stories have a beginning, middle, and end.
- [Daughter] It flew back high, and it got above the cloud.
- [Father] We all enjoy this.
The kids have the freedom to create something all on their own, and I get to see where their imagination will take them.
- [Announcer] Made possible by the generous support of the Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation.
