On September 4, 1886, after 30 years of intermittent warfare, Apache Chief Geronimo surrendered to General Nelson Miles at Skeleton Canyon, Arizona. Geronimo had surrendered and escaped twice before, most recently March 27, 1886 in Sonora, Mexico, after surrendering to General George Crook.
