I work well under pressure.
- First try.
This is exciting.
Every car has a story car, - Like the best thing ever.
For some they end up here.
These are just some of the stories about those who collected restore vehicle, giving them a renewed lease on life so that their stories can be told right here on restoration.

- In this episode, it's all about the engine as we finish up some work on a 1991 Chevy pickup and a 55 Chevy truck and also on a panel wagon giving it some much needed power.
Dave's working away on some exhaust for this one to 9, 1 1500.
It's got a new fresh motor we just built for it.
Exhaust, some cooling system upgrades and stuff like that.
So it's one of the smaller jobs that we do.
We don't get much chance to do these anymore.
This everything is pretty much big, big jobs, right?
- This is a Chevy Silverado 1991 with a, we put a three 50 roller engine into this and with a phy tech fuel injection on top and lots of accessories and she really runs pretty decent and it's boosted his power from the 3 0 5 up considerably.
And we're now just going for a test drive and we'll get a little bit of video done on it.
It goes off to shows.
I understand and he gets quite a few comments on it.
He never did talk about any of his wings, but I think I've heard him say him once.
So it's just a truck that he's kind of kept with him and his family and try to keep it in as best shape as possible.
There's no fresh paint on it, but I think it's all original so it's in pretty good shape for the - Bill's.
Got all the wipers, washer button and what was the other one you got there?
Electric parking.
Brake electric parking brake.
Pretty trick.
All the convenience.
Electric dock back and then we can - Do the stairs.
The 55 Chev pickup.
It's got a 502 in it.
We did paint on that one.
We're just adding a few little things that the customer wants.
Different gear set, passenger mirror and a bunch of stuff like that.
- So this can't turn because the tube slides in a hole.
Right.
Sitting on your paper.
- I got the face plate to cover that.
I worry about that because apparently he's armless kicked this way, which interferes with the radio.
So that's, this is all I was thinking, but I was hoping that this would've been wide enough.
I I could just screwed right into that - Sweet little dipstick too is quite a pain in the butt.
Can you get in and out?
Well, yeah, I'm trying to get any sort of fluid in there.
See what kind of mess we can make here now.
- Oh, just tying up some exhaust and little tranny work.
Trying to fast forward so the customer can have their truck for the weekend.
I think that's the plan.
So you know, it's, you know, we're down to the 11th hour and of course it's all good.
I work well under pressure and yeah, hopefully, hopefully we can get it out and they can take it and drive it and sure.
Don't want this tall be for not.
Yeah, I just got to lower it down, throw some training fluid in it and just let it run and verify some levels.
Quick scooter around the block, which is the perk of job - Houston, we have a problem.
So it was bent, - It was bent on purpose and when I was putting the fan in, I just kind of give her a little tug to straighten it out a bit.
But even with that, 'cause now I, when I was putting everything back together, I spaced the condenser out off the, so it wasn't touching the fan.
There isn't hope or a priority 'cause it's gotta go down in between the condenser and the grill Right.
To, so you can get your fingers in there to hit the release.
There's maybe, maybe that much room.
So it was done intentionally.
Intentionally So to make - Yeah, now I'm getting that in place now, right.
With the bigger - Fan.
Yep.
Because like I say, when I had it fire, I sort of gingerly give the condenser a bit of a, a bend to straighten it.
It may actually come back the other way, but to make room for the bigger motor.
But it's, that's this whole assembly has to fit down in there and - Now you know why it was bent.
- Now I know why it was bent.
- Something is going between here, - This - Or just - The latch assembly here.
Yeah.
So this has to fold - Under, oh watch this side.
Yep.
- Yep.
But that latch and that assembly has to fit - Between there, - Between the condenser and the drill and that's why it was pushed back to make that room.
- And what do we need extra?
What do you think?
Because you could put longer bolts here, - Right?
Well that's - Move the red.
- Yeah, we, yeah.
Move the rad back a little bit.
Put some washers between the - Yeah and that's - The header and, and - Get it back.
That's gonna chip it away already, - Right?
- Actually even you never know that even tipping the top inward because it is crooked here and you're just gonna level it off anyway.
Yeah, but anyway on the Yup yup.
Yep, - Yep.
- And the fan was a little heavier, a little meat, - Right?
Little.
Yep.
The, the blade design and like this, this housing here was thicker and then the motor was a tiny bit thicker too.
Like overall it was probably, I don't know, maybe a quarter, quarter of an inch thicker, - Quarter of an inch thicker, - Give or take.
- Yeah.
You know, so a quarter of an inch you're gonna get easily spacing, longer bolts, - Right?
- Because you can move this quarter of an inch that way I know you're, you're at at it and then you'll still have to straighten it more.
That's, you have - To push the, - Keep pushing in as you're spacing.
- Put the bend back in the condenser that - Will, it'll it'll actually end up straight again.
- Yeah.
- Instead of being bent.
Yeah, I know.
Always a nightmare.
- This is a 55, 55 C 10 typically wouldn't have all the gizmos and gods that it currently does.
Like a 5 0 2 big block.
Normally they'd be a, like a 2 35 or a a two 50 in line six single barrel putting out roughly 140, 150 horsepower.
Nothing compared to what it is now.
Definitely wouldn't have air conditioning.
It brings me back to the good old days when I used to steal my dad's truck.
Okay.
The last one that I managed to get my hands on before he got rid of it was a A 70 GMC.
Pretty good.
Get up and go much like this one does.
Little more lag room though.
- This one here, I don't know if we can get in there or not, but six cylinder that was in the truck obviously gave up the ghost so they decided to go all out and they, we, we found 'em a really nice healthy, used LS motor.
So we, we've got that in, the guys are working on all the harnesses laid out here, Brad just finishing to see the exhaust ports are sticking out there.
You just finished the exhaust up new drive shafts in it.
So we're just, we're just sort of going over everything on it now.
We don't usually do these but like if we do, everything's brand new so there's a little bit different for us, but we were pretty confident about the motor and we've gotta make up some steering obviously 'cause of the old style stuff.
Different linkages for the steering should sound pretty snarky with the dual dual pipes.
And these are a great bunch of guys.
They do beautiful work on the signs.
Motive media is out of Bolton, Ontario and they did those beautiful signs out front of the building for us and he's obviously a bit of a car guy too.
So he's got a couple other projects of his own on the go.
- So how's this in shape?
- It's going all right.
I got it running and ran into a little bit of a snag that it, it runs decent but it had a misfire and the more I got into it, the more I realized it wasn't just a misfire, it was one whole bank of cylinders not firing.
So it ran surprisingly good running on four cylinders.
Honestly that's why I didn't really pick up on it at first.
I thought it maybe had one cylinder it put a coil 'cause it did have one coil that wasn't fire and put a coil on.
It got better but it was still off one hole.
Bank of injectors wasn't contributing and I couldn't tell if it was spark or fuel or whatever.
So on the phone with Vitech on the phone with these people, this, that, you know, trying to come down to it anyway, I've narrowed it down that electronically it's fine.
It's doing everything it's supposed to do.
It's pulsing the injectors or at least it's sending signal to pulse the injectors.
Believe it or not, we have four bad injectors all on one bank of cylinders.
Now that whole passenger side is not firing.
Like I said to Mike yesterday, I'm like there's no way it's four bad injectors.
One sure two, maybe four, not a chance.
I put power and ground to them and nobody holding.
So it's good to, good to come up with an answer but it was like two or three days of just what is going on, what did I do, what did I do right?
You know what I mean?
I automatically go back to where you were but eh, so anyway, we will order a set of injectors for it then we can keep on trucking.
I had a set of different set of injectors on order, well I ordered a different set of injectors but they're a little bit shorter.
They're like an LS three style.
So a little bit more modern and they're a little bit shorter than the truck injector.
So then I ordered adapters that take up the distance when you put them into the rail but they didn't show up and the customer is chomping at the bit for the truck.
So took a set of injectors outta my truck out back and put them in to get 'em going.
Things you do for the love of the game.
Right.
- Okay.
- Hey Matthew, I just gotta run up Bayfield Street.
Who is that guy?
- As soon as every buddy Mike's done here, go for a little tour - Just working on a little cover plate for the panel truck.
We put an LS in it and it's hitting the coils.
We had a section that area out where the engine cover goes on the inside of the cabin and this should go in place, put some rib nuts in there and should be better than what they had in there.
Alright, so we got the LS crammed all in there and this is the dog hose that was hitting the coil pack.
So in theory everything should fit now.
They had a V six in here before and it was kind of just slapped together.
So the sealant that they had in there was never really that great anyways, so we'll make it better than what it was.
But the car shows today and customer's on his way.
So I'll do what I can with the time I have.
Bam, bam, - Shut this up in there.
- And then this, if you come over to the other side, you'll see where this has gotta go.
It's kind of hard to see, but up in there you see all the coil packs.
So they were hitting that dog house and now this cover plate should in theory go right in like that, put a couple rib nuts in some sealant and it can be removable and should keep all the gases inside of the cabin.
Gotta paint that silver, find some hardware.
Call that a job.
Well done customer's on his way.
We got no time to wait.
Paint's still tacky.
Let's get it in there.
We're not gonna add the seal enter on there right now, customer's coming back.
So we'll just get it in place for today and do a top-notch job when he comes back for everything else.
That's it, that's all I think Maybe I'll get your opinion.
Make sure you can still hit the gas pedal maybe too.
That'll Yeah, try it out.
Good for me - Man.
It's, yeah, that's six.
If anything you can just lay your foot up against it.
It's like not clearance.
Yeah, - That's awesome.
My name's Randy Shepherd.
This is our 1980 Grumman that had a sad little six straight six in it before and now it's got a LT four LS based motor and pretty excited to take it for a first trip.
We saw it online or in our local town and it was something that I, I liked for our, our business motive media fleet graphics.
I thought it'd be a great installation vehicle the crews can take out to, to site and carry all their tools.
And it was in really good shape, fully resto by the, the guy before us.
And, and then unfortunately the motor went on it and then reached out to Gary, did some signs for him up front.
And here we are with the LS Grumman now Ls swap the world, man.
You gotta, you gotta, if you're doing a swap, there's no other, no other platform to use besides the LS swap, in my opinion.
I have a Jeep with an LS in it.
I also race LL all the cars are LS based motors.
It's a great platform.
It's the new SBC, right?
It's, it's a reliable aftermarket support.
Lots of power in stock form and easily to get up even to more power if you need it.
Yeah, when we got it, we had to do a little bit of frame patching on it, but other than that, like it didn't need anything for safety.
It's been sitting a couple years now, but, but now it's, I'm excited.
It's been a, it's been a long process to get this, get this back and I'm excited to ride.
I I used to drive this thing with a straight six, like every day the daily it was my daily because it is just so fun and different.
Right.
And and you don't see too many of the grooming curb master juniors around anymore.
Right.
So yeah, it was a good deal.
- First try.
This is exciting.
- A little bit more power than before.
When we bought it, I drove it pretty much whenever I could.
Right.
So I, it it was a fun vehicle to drive.
It's different, a lot of people to get head turns and I'm kind of a car guy, so this is something you don't see every day and it, it was really fun to drive and I drove it as often as I could.
Right.
So, and then when the engine, when the engine went on, it just, the timing was perfect with radical restorations.
We did a bit of a swap deal for the signs and it, it was perfect.
So it's, it's been a long process, but I think well worth it after, after feeling the results from this, so.
Sounds good too.
So when I first got it, there's a trophy down there on the dash that when I first got it, I took it to a car show.
The very first weekend I had it.
I don't even think I had it plated insured properly, but, but I, I won best truck, best work truck at the silver Oil of classic a couple years ago, I think 2018 to 2019.
And then shortly after that, the engine went, and then we started the process of the LS swap with radical restorations.
Yeah, that was, that was a, that was a good shakedown run for sure.
I think so.
And the best part is I'm a Jeep guy too, right?
So it's almost like having doors off on the Jeep.
So Yeah, I am, I am happy.
It's been a long time and it's, it's been worth it.
So - Have you guys tried the horn yet?
No, we didn't, but I've never seen them there.
Yeah.
Is that the loudest that they go?
Or?
Oh no.
