Here are some things we always bring along.

So maybe take that magnifying glass over there.

Um, sometimes I get nervous, but as you like practice more and more.
Your stage fright can go away.
And it can get easier over time.

Like, how do you get rid of the nerves?
Sometimes I just shake them out.
Sometimes I, remember that I've practiced a lot, and I'm prepared and that I can do it.

Now we're talking about birds and how they use the language of song to communicate.
Do you have a favorite bird?
Um -Blue jay.

First of all, what color would you be?

Yeah, you'd be blue.
Cool, right.
And how would Malone the blue jay sound?
This is your own sound.

And how would you get over those nerves?

Ew.
People feel a lot of different ways about singing.
And it's okay that I feel nervous.
Meadowlark, how did you learn to sing?
When I was born.
I didn't know my song.
But then I listened to my father and other meadowlark.
♪ Sing la la la la la ♪ ♪ la la la la la ♪ ♪ la la la la la la ♪ and then I practiced and got some advice from other birds and practiced some more.
I just graduated officially with my full song last week.
[applause] Oh, I always thought birds just knew what to do.
But they have to learn to.
Oh, so when we first start singing, it doesn't sound exactly the same as later on.
We grow, our voices change, and our bodies change.
And then as we learn to sing more and we practice, the sounds become more refined and complete.
Like a stuffy.
That just gets better the more you play with it.
But singing isn't about what it sounds like to other people.
It's about what it feels like to us.
why do birds sing meadowlark?
well, birds sing for all sorts of reasons.
To mark territory.
uh too, attract a mate.
To send a warning to other animals.
Coyote is coming!
Sup coyote.
There's so many unique bird calls.
I like the sound of the crow.
Caw!
Caw!
Straight up and direct.
Yeah.
Each bird has found a call that suits their style.
For me, I really got to give it for the barred owl.
And here is an easy way to remember that call.

and there's the chickadee-dee.
Did you say the chickadee-dee-dee?

Expressing ourselves however we sound is a beautiful part of being alive.
And every person, just like every bird, does it a little differently.

Whoever you are, wherever you are and however you sound, you can become meadow larks with us.
Put your hands out in front of you.
Flip them around so your palms are facing your face.
And then cross your thumbs and flap your wings like this.

You can head on over to the sand it's true, but you will still be walking on rocks.
Sand is just teeny tiny little rocks.
Oh, smoothed over by water pressure.
Time.
Sparkle.
Professor Sparkles!
Colorado's least renowned scient It's true, the scientific commun doesn't appreciate my flair.
But rocks.
They understand me, and I, I understand them.
They are remarkable.
So many different types and also solid.
Which gives me an idea.
Could I just lie down right here and have you cover me in rocks?
It's been far too long since I've had a good old fashioned rock bath.
Sure.
Oh.
Nice.
No one on the- The upper lip.

That's that's so nice.
I feel so grounded.

Oh, when I slide them together, the rocks are kind of falling apart.
That's what you meant about the sand.
The sand is just little pieces of rock.
Yeah.

How many types of rocks are there, professor?

Ah yes, there are three types of rock on planet Earth.

Metamorphic Igneous and sedimentary metamorphic, igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic!

Igneous rocks are formed by the running and cooling of hot magma or lava.
These igneous rocks are called granite.
Can you say that?
Granite?
Metamorphic rocks like this marble.
Not this marble.
Our existing rocks that are formed when they are changed by Earth's forces, like heat and pressure.
They often have a layered or banded appearance.
Sparkle!
Sedimentary rocks are like sand in reverse.
This sandstone rock formed over millions of years as rock and sand particles got smushed together with time.
Then it turns back into sand, wind and water and weather turns it back again to these tiny little particles.
The earth is always changing.
Rocks!
They literally make up the ground that we live on everywhere we go.
Even in cities where we've covered up the Earth.
The bedrock is right down there.
Always supporting us.
The bricks, the.
Concrete, the asphalt that make up our roads and buildings.
Also made of rocks.
Even though we cannot see them.
They're always there, supporting us.
Rocks.
They are remarkable.
