Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipSo here we are in Goshen today, and we are at the Goshen Brewing Company.
And there's a special reason we're here, because they're celebrating ten years this week right here.
And they're going to have a big celebration.
I'm with Jesse, who's one of the founders.
You and your wife opened this place up a while ago, and, you transformed what was a building not being used into something kind of a magical place for this community.
Well, thanks.
Yeah.
Thanks for having me.
So this is the old Nipsco building.
Circa 1920s is what I know.
And, yeah, we tried to upcycle the old building and kind of put some new life into it, and create kind of a community space for people to come together.
And it's really kind of a great space because it's real close to downtown.
So you can walk right over here.
If you're over in downtown and in this connected community.
Goshen is really well known for their first Fridays in.
And so you kind of just, you know, added a little bit to that because it has that same atmosphere all week for sure.
First Friday coming up.
Just in a couple of days.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We love our location.
We're not right on Main Street, but a couple blocks from Main Street.
We got some natural area, an outdoor space that lends itself to, fun events.
And.
Yeah, now I imagine when you open, you were hoping you were going to be ten years.
Yes.
Yes.
Like, getting to a point because that's that's you jumping out on a limb saying, hey, we're going to start a business, and you guys have made it ten years.
It really says the community accepted you here.
Yeah, it really does feel a little monumental that we got, ten years now.
Kind of surreal to, Yeah.
The community is really, taking a liking to the place.
And, you know, we really just tried to be that strong asset in the community.
And a fun, relaxing place for many groups of people to come together for.
Well, so this will air on Thursday.
And what is happening this weekend?
How are you guys celebrating ten years.
Yeah.
So we'll have a party all day Saturday starting at noon.
We've got a barbecue trailer, so we do some special foods outside on that trailer.
We're doing sort of a throwback menu.
Some of our just kind of, old school staple beers, but also some new ones.
And then going back to a lot of our original food menu.
People have been asking about our smoked duck tacos.
We did from our original menu and doing a midnight moon grilled cheese sandwich that we haven't done in in probably over five years.
Along with a lot of other things.
They'll be we have vinyl going all day.
So music, a DJ, we're doing a fun, battle of the bands.
So some local bands just kind of having a fun, just a fun battle together.
We got some judges, that are going to have fun with it.
A dance party.
We're kind of finishing with the dance party from 8 to 11, staying open a little later.
It's going to be.
Yeah, a lot of fun.
Some giveaways and just good energy.
I think we'll be.
We'll be all around.
That's pretty awesome.
So the best place to find out all the details on your Facebook page, website, website, Facebook, Instagram, all of that stuff.
We've been posting some of that and we'll even do a few more things.
We've got even special merch.
I'm wearing one of the shirts and, you know, I kind of see one of our staff help put that together.
Some different ceramic mugs that we had specially made.
Absolutely.
We've got our mug club glasses that we really focusing on our ten year, this year.
So yeah, it's all kinds of fun stuff going on.
So if you guys can't make it out for the event this weekend, there's stuff going on all the time, especially in the summer.
From what I understand, Tuesdays, a special night as far as the menu goes.
And then Wednesday you have live music going on.
Yeah, every Tuesday is Pad Thai Tuesday.
So and that has been sort of a phenomenon that has taken off over the years.
And like you said, music every Wednesday throughout the year.
Obviously it's a little rainy, overcast.
So we move it inside.
But most of the time during summer we have people out on the lawns, bring it and bring in lawn chairs and sort of this little festival type atmosphere each week out there.
It's so for people who don't know, you guys really got the start because of the beer.
Yeah.
And so you guys have your stuff on tap and, how many things do you have on tap?
Every day?
It kind of depends.
We have we can have up to 12 if we can keep up with that.
People are drinking a lot of this beer down, especially come nice, warm weather, summertime.
But, we'll have quite a few on tap.
Saturday.
And really a diverse lineup of beers.
Anything from, dry hops, saisons.
We're going to have a sour cider.
We make hard cider here, too.
We got a new West Coast IPA that's, we're getting we're having canned as well, and it's got the ten year logo on it, a special release for the day.
Yeah.
So all kinds, variety going on there to go along with that.
You have a great menu.
So tell people what's what kind of things are on the menu.
Yeah.
So, Saturday we're going to have the, the Thais, a Thai salad that we've had before.
We're going to go back to, we're going to do brisket, which we do all the time.
That's one of the very few items that's been on the menu all the time.
But we're going to do a stout barbecue sauce with that, just to switch it up a little bit.
We've got marinated pork skewers going on out in the barbecue trailer a lot.
A, sandwich called Low and Slow, a steak sandwich that, is kind of, fan favorite, pulled pork with the fennel slaw.
Just all kinds, yeah.
Stuff.
So fun.
Menu.
So sometimes people might think, oh, well, it's a brewing company, so it's just for adults.
But this is kind of a family friendly environment.
Yes it is.
We we get lots of families, kids out on the lawn.
Definitely see that on Wednesday and throughout the week.
It's it's been interesting to see how that has taken off too.
And there aren't tons of places around where you can go get a drink like this and have family right there as well.
So we've I think I think kids, and families feel safe.
They, we get kids that want to come here for their birthdays, you know, and parents are here pretty okay with that usually.
I would say so.
Right.
Yeah.
So, what would you say to the community after ten years?
You know, it's it's I know you're doing a party as a kind of a way to give back.
Oh, absolutely.
What would you say to the community after being here for ten years?
I mean, just a sincere thank you for the support and, growing with us throughout the years.
You know, you have your ups and downs and through Covid, we really gained a lot of support, and loyalty shown there.
We just want to come together and have fun and celebrate just the community in general.
It's just a strong knit community that's, has a lot of heart.
So, yeah, we're just very grateful.
Well, hopefully you guys have heard us this whole time because as you can hear, there's a lot of conversation going on which really speaks to the community atmosphere here at Goshen Brewing Company.
And so tell people, when are you guys open?
Are you open all week, sir?
Yeah.
So, we're open Tuesday through Sunday, dinners Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
And then Saturday we open for lunch and into the evening, 12 to 10.
Sundays we do brunch.
We have a summertime, schedule hours from 10 to 8.
And then the winter we do 10 to 3.
But Monday is the only day we're closed.
That's kind of our breather.
And get some other things done around here, but, yeah, we're open six days a week.
Sure.
Very good.
Ten years.
It's been a great part of the community.
Be sure to get out this Saturday if you can and if not anytime, any week.
It's just a wonderful atmosphere.
Jesse, thank you so much.
Thank you very much.
Appreciate it.
