Nine, gonna shine, life is good I'm doing fine.
Ten, Gonna do it right then do it again.
Yeah yeah.
I look up to the sky with all the beautiful color but, there's more than just for me so gonna share it with another.
I got to show, to give, let out, I want to sing and shout.
Take a look and see A beautiful morning that turns into beautiful evening.
And together make a beautiful life.
And if you want see, then come along with me.
That's right.
Hello everyone and welcome to Experience Michiana.
Today we are on the set at the Elkhart Civic Theater to find out about Lucky Stiff, which is a hilarious show that we'll tell you more about on next week's show.
But we have a great show for you this week.
We're going to be Gallery 2910 with Courtney to find out about these really wonderful painting classes.
And then we're going to Round Barn and Tabor Hill to find out about Hallowine and The Terror at Tabor Hill.
But first, Dave takes us to the Hall of Heroes Super Hero Museum.
I'm here at the Hall of Heroes Super Hero Museum on Cassopolis Street in Elkhart, and I'm here with Allen Stewart.
Allen, first of all, before we have a look at things.
I've been looking through your guest book here.
There's people from Vietnam, Spain, all over the world and all over the country that come here.
Everybody loves superheroes.
What can I say?
It's a worldwide phenomenon.
I mean, you guys are one of the biggest tourist attractions iff not the biggest for bringing people from outside of Elkhart County to here.
And you just kind of quietly sit here.
Right.
Exactly.
Yeah.
We're kind of it's it's weird.
It's one of those things.
We're much more well known nationally than we are locally.
And a lot of it is because we've brought we've been on a dozen national television shows, starting with Stan Lee 12 years ago.
He filmed here.
A lot of people don't know that.
But just so far this year, we've been on American Pickers and Shipping Wars just this year.
Wow.
All right.
Well, now you're on PBS Michiana.
There you go.
You've made the big time in the bar, buddy.
All right.
Let's go and have a look at some of the things that you have.
So what are some of the things that people come in from out of town, like people from Spain, like, why are you so big?
You know, some of the things that we have.
So, like, this is our marvel in World War two case.
Yeah.
The biggest thing that we have in this case, of course, is we actually have a Captain America number one from 1941.
And that's his first appearance in Comic books.
That's the that's actually an original.
That's an actual.
That's an actual.
That's an actual.
Yep, that's an original.
But I can imagine that these comics really got passed around between groups of friends and yes, you know, they really got their money's worth out of that one purchase.
They were well read and well loved.
Yes, absolutely.
And you've got one of the originals and it looks like it's in great shape.
It is talking about superheroes and Marvel and different things.
I know you also have some vehicles that we want to go and have a look at.
Absolutely.
Yep.
Before we do that, though.
We actually have this is one of the big, big draws for our museum.
This is one of the six actual shields used by actor Chris Evans in the First Avenger film.
Oh, wow.
So a screen used on the back of it, you can see all of the autographs.
It's autographed by the entire cast on the back.
And we have even have the photos of everyone signing the shield.
Wow.
Just to show that it is.
Exactly.
Yeah, it's totally authentic.
Yeah, absolutely.
We also have Peggy Carter's agent of Shield file that was also used in the film.
Wow.
And I know that Comic-Con is a huge part of what you're trying to achieve here.
And you've been doing it now for a number of years.
And the amount of people and the big stars that you bring in, like Napoleon Dynamite was my favorite.
Oh, John was great.
I actually went to dinner with him.
He's fantastic.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Could name dropping all the people, you're friends now, you know what I mean?
Hollywood.
But Comic-Con we can talk about as well if people want to get more information about that as well.
Specifically, they can come in and see you here or get it on.
Yeah, we actually have cards up.
Like I mentioned, we've got Lou Ferrigno, the original Hulk come in, red brand, original Captain America.
We've got Dave Barclay, who was Yoda and Jabba the Hutt, the original Star Wars films.
We got him coming.
We've got Tom Cook, who was the co-creator of Captain Caveman, pretty much.
He worked on every Hanna-Barbera cartoons, super friends, Scooby Doo, He-Man, all of those.
We've got him coming.
We've got Johnny Young Bosch.
Come in.
He is one of the top animator, one of the top anime voice actors.
He's been on Pokémon, he's been on Digimon, he's been on Sailor Moon.
He was one of the original Power Rangers in live action.
But yeah, he's been over 400 different characters and video games, anime and cartoons.
Huge guess for the younger crowd.
I love that.
And they bring in so many people who work behind the scenes but are still so well regarded in their fields by people like animators.
You talked about that they may not have famous names to most people, but to people who really love it.
They know just how the quality of the guests that you're bringing in at.
Jim Shooter from, he took over Marvel Comics from Stan Lee in the eighties.
He's actually the guy that wrote the Secret War series where, you know, spider man, the Black Zombie, a costume that became Venom.
He's the guy who created all that.
You know, I. I wanted to buy myself a drone recently, and I felt bad years that we were getting all this stuff yourself.
But.
All right, let's go have a look at some of the the absolute.
All right.
Tell me about this motorcycle.
It was ridden by somebody very famous.
Yes.
This is the actual screen used hell cycle from the ghostwriter films used by Nicolas Cage in the film.
The bike is 11 feet long, 750 pounds.
Marvel paid 150,000 to make this bike.
But there's no motor in it.
It's all resin.
So it's an original piece of art.
Overstretched Harley frame, and it's got 35 LED lights.
So this is how they set it on fire.
And then Nicolas Cage just sat on it just like this and the green screen, you know.
And so he just set up like this.
He's a little taller than me.
So they set it on like this and then they CGI the flames around his head, the flames around the tires for the bike.
But yeah, the bike is pretty amazing.
And we actually do let people take photos sitting on the bike that come here.
So you get to kind of live some of the Hollywood experience when you come here, which is cool.
And we do this.
We do what we call the Marvel movie experience.
So you can take a picture on the bike and also on the other vehicle here.
So these are our biggest props.
We actually have two vehicles from Marvel Studios.
So the other one, this is the actual 65 Shelby Cobra that Robert Downey Jr. landed on when he flew the armor frozen space, crashed to the penthouse, landed right on the car here.
We kind of put a towel here so people don't catch their clothes.
But here's what you get to do, though.
If you want to do this, you can actually you get to reenact the scene.
And I tell the ladies, you know, the ladies like this because I tell them they can they can roll around in Robert Downey Junior's DNA.
Yeah, which is great.
What I do is a teenage show.
I tell people they take two poses on the car.
They do like one of those.
All right.
And then when you do like the Tony Stark peace sign, it's like a cool Facebook photo.
Just don't ask me to do it right.
Well, and when we have, like two teenage boys in, I always like to embarrass one of their parents.
Like, that's your cool Facebook photo for the ladies that is awesome.
Does it have an engine?
No motor in this.
Okay.
No, no, we're in it now.
I was going to ask take it for a spin because I couldn't do much worse with it.
So and and I know that one of your other big prized possessions here that you have at the Hall of Hero Superhero Museum is is an outfit, a costume that you want to show is I personally I think that's the coolest thing we have here.
All right.
Let's see it.
Yeah.
Okay.
Tell me about it.
This is the so our Batman area is right here.
And the coolest thing I think that we have in our museum's collection is this is Adam West's personal Batman costume.
Like the actual one he wore.
It's the one he wore at public appearances for 20 years after the show.
So it was his personal one, which is really cool.
There's actually there's only two complete costumes that exist.
There's one that's actually from the show, and then this one.
And then we have the letter right here of, you know, that he sold it in the nineties because around the time the 89 Michael Keaton film came out, he was given a cease and desist by Warner Brothers, that he was not allowed to wear a costume anymore.
And so then he ended up selling it at auction about five, six years later.
And the gentleman that bought it ended up donating it to our museum about seven, eight years ago.
Wow.
What an incredible thing to get.
And what I love about here, too, is that when you walk in, you know, at first you think, okay, I'll be able to have a look around here.
But you could you could come here like four or five times and see things.
You just missed the first.
Oh, yeah.
And that happens all the time.
People have to take two or three laps or they come back because we're changing things.
In fact, we're getting ready to do a remodel next month, so we're going to be adding ten more big exhibit cases and more things that people haven't seen before.
So that's coming up soon.
And we also have Jim Carrey's Riddler costume, which is pretty amazing.
And then we actually have some stuff from the the nineties Batman films.
We've got George Clooney's Batman cowl, the two face coin used by Tommy Lee Jones, the hat and mask that go with the Jim Carrey costume.
So this is what I mean.
I mean, this place is so good that we almost didn't mention something like George Clooney had, right?
Exactly.
Yeah.
After that.
Right.
That we know bat nipples, though.
Yeah.
No, no, thankfully, no bat nipples.
But it's just it's incredible what you're doing here.
You're a nonprofit organization and you bring a lot of people in being so close to the toll road.
I know that a lot of people come in and this is something that the local community I mean, more people come to see this from outside the area, 80% out of town versus 20% locally.
Yeah, that's right.
It's not like a guilt trip or anything.
A lot of people may not know about it locally, even though you've been featured nationally, but you'd really like to see more local people to support their museum, right?
Right.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
So do it.
Come check us out.
It's pretty awesome.
Or it has some kind of weapon that he can laser you with and you don't.
Well, it's time to find your inner artist here at Gallery 2910.
Is that how you say Gallery 29?
Ten.
Yes, perfect.
And Julian is the director and owner here.
You have some amazing artwork here on the walls and lots of stuff going on here at your site.
You guys have been around the community for a few years now.
Yes, we we opened in 2016.
Awesome.
And here right now, we are just behind out back in Mishawaka.
Right.
This is a fantastic location for you guys.
Yeah.
We love people love the fact that they can park and they can see their car as they're painting us.
Oh, that's really good.
That's awesome.
Now, here is just some examples of what kids can do.
You have a really cool thing that you guys are doing with kids with an art camp.
Tell us more about it.
Yes.
So it's a program for kids ages 5 to 11 and it's an after school event.
Kids get dropped off at 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays or the parents can also stay and, you know, just monitor the class.
And we do everything from painting, crafting, painting on wood, ceramics.
It's a variety of projects that the kids can get their hands on to later decide what they like best.
And I love that too, especially this one where you're incorporating different components because in my house our craft cupboard is full of odds and ends, right?
So this also encourages them to do those kinds of things.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It really gives them an idea that, you know, like, oh, I didn't know I could do that with buttons or with ribbons.
And so they it gets them out of out of the box thinking outside the box.
Awesome.
So for the kids art camp, how long is that going on for?
It goes you can it's a subscription based.
You can register it's a monthly subscription base and you can stop it at any time and it happens on Wednesdays, every Wednesday.
And people can get all the information on your website about yes, if you go to a Gallery2910.org and head over to the art camps tab, you'll find it there.
Awesome.
And you have other stuff going on here too.
One of the things that I love, which I know really happened a lot during the pandemic, is taking the art home with you.
So you offer art kits, too?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We were actually pushed by the pandemic to think outside the box and say, how can we get the art into people's homes?
And Art Kits came about.
They come with everything you need to become a master at home.
Paint, brushes and even instructions.
And some of the kits also come with video instructions that you get a link and you watch it at home.
We have everything from kids to Mommy and me designs or even adults.
And I know you have some Mommy and me classes.
I think we're going to try some of those.
Yes, sure.
Okay.
Yes.
Tell us more about what else you guys have going on.
Because aside from just, you know, the camp and things like that, you have opportunities for adults to paint too, right?
Yes, we have the very popular and famous Sip and Paint Parties where adults can bring in their favorite party drink and it's a step by step session.
And it kind of just helps you get the creative juices flowing and you can bring a friend, family members and make it a party.
We also do private events.
So you're celebrating a bachelorette party, baby shower or whatever it is.
We can celebrate it with a paint party.
That's amazing that you guys offer that kind of thing, too.
What's your favorite part of having this?
The kids craft camp.
Yeah, I love I love making things with the kids.
That's amazing.
Well, okay, so I'm going to pretend I'm the kid.
Yes.
We're gonna do some mommy and me painting today.
But you also have other things that you can do.
As far as one thing that I noticed over here, I saw the bright lights over there.
Oh, yes.
We just added the glow in the dark paint party.
That is so cool.
Yeah, these are done with fluorescent paint and it's a fabulous experience.
Like the paint just glows on your face, and super cool.
you don't find out till later.
I still have paint on my arm.
Yeah.
And the paintings, the paint that we use is very versatile because it looks fantastic under the blacklight, but it also looks great in the daylight.
Okay.
So those people can set up a private party or do you have regular parties that you have to do for the public?
Both, yes, good question.
Okay.
People can do the private events.
They can contact us into a private event, but we also have a weekly schedule.
You do?
Okay.
And where can people get their calendar?
And you can go to Gallery2910.org and you just go to class schedule.
Perfect.
And I know right now is probably fall season heading into winter season, a lot of those style paintings.
Yep.
We have we follow the themes for the holidays and also for the seasons.
But you also find like, you know, evergreen subject that, you know, you can you can decorate your home throughout the year.
Absolutely.
Well, I love to paint.
I'm not good at it.
But you're going to hold my hand through this process, right?
Yes.
Of course.
I'll take you step by step.
Okay.
Let's give it a try.
Okay?
Okay, Julian.
So now if I'm going to do a mommy and me class, you're going to hold my hand through this.
What age group is this usually designed for for the kids?
We recommend ages five and up.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
And yes, I'll take you step by step.
Okay.
So as you guys can see, as you can see, when you come in and you sit down, you will have in front of you a already pre sketched canvas just like this.
Yes.
So what happens is you've already registered.
You look through our calendar and you chose the your favorite image.
We have all kinds of different ones throughout the year.
In this case, you chose the llama and I'll be painting the child's version.
And you have the adult version.
the mommy version.
Okay.
And you kind of design these so that they go together so you can correct them together.
Yeah.
To two paintings, make one masterpiece of love.
I love that phrase.
Okay.
Okay.
So then what we do, then we take you step by step for the painting techniques, which are super simple, but you will be taking home a couple, one or two techniques that you can later use.
Ok.
So, Julian, this is not my llama, but I have a dog that I love and I do something really special with painting your pet, too.
Yes.
It's a very special class because it's filled with love.
We all love our pets and we would do anything for them, right?
Even making a portrait when we might think that we're not artists.
We make it super easy for you because all you do is you send us an image, a picture of your pet.
Okay, so I don't have to bring my pet with me, because I don't know if he would hold still for a portrait that would be fun, but you'll send us a picture and then we create a sketch template.
Just kind of like like the llama here and we will take you step by step and it includes all the materials that you need.
And if you're part of a not for profit organization like a shelter, we will even partner with you and we'll do a fundraiser.
Oh, that's amazing.
And can you tell me more about this?
I mean, this really catches my eyes is who I can hear.
This is George.
This is my pet Oh it actually is your pet?
Okay.
This is my pet.
He's a goldendoodle.
He's about seven months now.
Yeah.
And we painted him because we want we take it when we do these events because we go to a shelter, we'll go to the shelters and and set up the events there.
And we take it with us so that people can see, you know, a sample of what they can do.
Yeah, that's amazing.
Yeah.
So if people want to get more information, if they want to see what classes they have, you have coming up, if they want to do, you know, the the art craft for the kids, how can they get the information?
What's the best way for them to get in touch with you?
Well, you can call us, right to our you know, our studio.
And it's 574-204-2665.
Or you can go on our Facebook page.
We also have all the information there, which is Gallery 2910 with the numbers 2910 or you can visit our website Gallery2910.org and with the menu on the right you just click the three little buttons if you are on your phone and then it'll pull down the Mommy and me tab or the kids camp, and then you just find out which one you want.
That's awesome.
Well, thanks for so much for trying to pull out my inner artist.
I mean I think I did Okay, it's coming along.
Maybe we'll take a picture of the finished product later & see Yeah, that looks pretty good.
Well, thanks so much, Julianne, for having us today.
Thank you, guys.
Thank you for being here.
It is such a beautiful fall in Michiana and one of the best places to experience it is a vineyard or a winery Jen.
which is why we're here at Round Barn Estates and Tabor Hill Winery.
So excited to be here.
Can't wait to getting excited already, but I hear that you're not doing Halloween this year.
You're doing a Hallowine instead.
Hallowine, Yes.
So it's a family friendly, dog friendly.
Bring everyone out.
It's a free day for everybody.
So come out.
Enjoy.
We have a specials special cocktail, which is The Salty Witch.
So it is featured with our salted caramel, which will be try trying here soon.
It just came back this season.
It's one of a fan favorites.
And then also it's mixed with our divine vodka for making a very special treat.
Oh, now, when is this happening?
That is Saturday, October 29th.
So we open at 11 a.m., 11 to 6 come come out and hang out.
Yeah.
And it's family friendly now I hear there's a lot of events happening around that band.
You've got a great band.
Yes.
So we have we're celebrating brews, blues and booze.
So we have a blues band that will be headlining later on the afternoon.
And then if you're looking for some more, just adult fun, we will have our Terror at Tabor dance party across the way here.
So you can go enjoy a 1920s Speakeasy Vibe party.
That's really nice.
So this is the Terror at Tabor Hill?
Yes.
So it's at Tabor Hill.
So if you're familiar with Round Barn, chances are you've seen Tabor Hill Winery.
It's just across the way.
People can walk the trail or drive over.
And so it's actually going to be at the private estate tent.
So not the restaurant itself.
There's a different address.
So be sure to check on TaborHill.com for those directions, because it's going to navigate you back through the windy vineyards and then you're going to be immersed into this spacious tent.
That's really nice.
Now, going back to Hallowine.
Yeah.
So it's 11 until about 6pm?
11 to 6, you got it.
And so what's the food going to be?
Oh, my gosh.
They are going to have special food truck features.
So you can check out our menu online.
But this time, Hallowine, it's all about the wine.
Yes it is.
We're going to have awes- ome harvest deals that you can stock up on in our shop.
You can stack the deals.
Online has many deals as well.
And then no better way to just stock up on wine during the holiday season and Hallowine.
What are some of the favorites during this time of year?
Absolutely.
So as you can see, these three bottles in front of us are salted caramel, as I said, just came back in season.
It's a fan favorite everyone loves to pick up this time of year.
We've just released our espresso earlier this summer.
So if you love espresso martini, as I was joking earlier, it's the AM 2 p.m. so you can splash them in your coffee or you can enjoy it as a nightcap.
And you said there's no caffeine in this, no caffeine in this one.
So, I mean, depending on what you're mixing it with, if you are doing coffee, you don't have to worry about any extra jittery if you're sensitive to caffeine or being mindful.
And then our black walnut is a staple everyone loves.
And I know you were sharing that earlier.
I know every time my family comes in for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I have plenty of stock.
Oh, my God.
I felt good.
It's so good.
And any of these are good all year round.
Definitely.
Our wine our weekend wine campaign, it's low abv, low alcohol.
So if you're being more conscious around the holidays, if you want something a little bit more light, you can do that.
But any of our other varietals, staples such as our vineyard red is a classic table red wine, I would say that's great for Thanksgiving.
And our Vineyard Rosé is one of my personal favorites.
Now, you said people don't have to dress up for the Hallowine.
But if they'd like to they Absolutely can.
Yes, please do.
We're definitely encouraging.
Our employees onsite will be dressing up to the attire.
So if you feel like bringing a costume on and come in and out, please do.
We just don't want you to feel pressured to do otherwise.
Right Now... Terror at Tabor Hill You do want them to dress up for that?
Yeah.
Please come in your 1920s glamor.
I know I will be breaking out one of my fur coats, especially with the weather becoming so chilly.
But 1920 prohibition era.
So you have your flappers, you have your suit and tie.
So Terror at Tabor it's going to be a very upscale but spooky evening.
Yes.
And so that goes up until 10:00.
Correct.
And what kind of food are you having?
So we will have Woodstock Bar and Grill.
So barbecue, feel, feel good meal, food.
And then again, we're very focused on the cocktail.
So something we're super passionate about.
We've worked with our head mixologist and crafting these Prohibition era cocktails and we also will have a mocktail offered to our designated driver tickets that we will also offering.
What are one of the cocktails that you're going to be having?
Yes.
So there's the Lavender Gin Rickey.
That's super fun.
And then there's also the drifter.
So those are going to be two cocktails, more of the old fashioned classic.
And then another one that has of our gin.
The mocktail is going to be a fun, bubbly twist on giggle water.
So the one in the afternoon, it's family friendly.
The one in the evening is more for adults.
Yes.
So adults only for the Terror at Tabor Party.
You can see all of the ticket information online at TaborHill.com definitely grab your tickets because we will be maxing out the event so grab those fast.
Now we had talked about Autumn being a wonderful time to visit wineries and vineyards, but you are going to have events all winter long.
Yes.
Tell us a little bit about the Winter Village.
Absolutely.
So right here at Round Barn Estate our winter village is in the process of coming to life.
You can see those igloo reservations up online starting through November.
Grab those and then if you're looking for a more specific holiday friendly, we have Winter Fest, so that's December 17th and 18th.
That's Saturday and Sunday.
We're really good.
We're really bringing in the feel good Christmas holiday spirit.
So there's going to be some ice carving experiences.
There's going to be a pop up Coco Bar and really just having a good time having everybody enjoy the elements because why not just party and also celebrate all year long?
Yes.
And then plenty of clean wines over there as well, as well as the coco, which we're going to try in a minute.
But one of the things that I love that I read about is that during the winter you can walk the trails.
Yeah.
And also cross-country skiing.
Yes.
So the trails, which is through our parking lot here that connects Round Barn and Taber Hill, you can you can snowshoe, you can just hike whatever you want.
You can bring your dog.
We just ask that they stay on a leash and then really enjoy those trails.
It's a good way to get outside outdoors if you don't look, you don't want to go to a gym, but if you want to go out, have some drinks and then enjoy the trail walk.
It's a great way to stay active in the winter time as well and I'm sure it's really beautiful in the snow.
Gorgeous.
And then you can come and get cream wine.
And then you can warm up.
And what's nice too is we often see people take bottles of wine, too, on the trail.
So you can take a beverage to go.
So if you're like, I need a little extra motivation to make that walk, grab yourself a cocktail and then hit the trails.
Oh, that sounds like so much fun.
Okay, we are ready to taste Ready to taste.
I've had the black walnut.
I've never had the salted caramel.
Oh, we're going to go for this one.
This is just so good.
And like I said, this is in our Salty Witch.
Which is our signature cocktail for Hallowine.
And it is a it's a fan favorite.
There's nothing better than a salted caramel candy.
But imagine as a a drink.
Oh, my God.
Cheers.
Here we go.
Let's try this.
Wow.
The caramel just melts on your tongue.
It's so delicious and so smooth.
Very smooth.
Oh, my gosh.
That's fantastic.
I love it.
You know, I'm probably going to be driving.
So there you go.
Little sips.
That's fantastic.
And you only need a little bit.
So often people, like I said, we'll sip on this as a nightcap or you can make your own cocktail with it at home.
Yeah, no, this is that.
And then so we have the espresso as well as the black walnut.
Any other favorites while they're here that they can pick up for the fall season?
Oh, my gosh.
I mean, this is this is the best home space.
But if you are interested in more of a drier blend, our cab is a great one.
We also have many different flavored brandies, which you can kind of see behind me here.
And then we also have, excuse me, our Gewurztraminer which is tasty.
And it's if you're more of a white wine drinker, that's kind of like a happy medium.
All right.
Well, Jen, thank you so much for being with us today.
Again, lots of events happening here at Round Barn and Tabor Hill.
So come on and make sure to pick up your favorites for the fall season.
We'll be here.
Well, thank you so much for joining us on this week's Experience Michiana.
Remember that next week we find out about a hilarious show called Lucky Stiff.
That's all about murder, mystery, diamonds and a dead body.
So be sure to tune in for that.
Thanks again.
We'll see you next week.
