There is a special place here.
The local Cub Aireal Thank you so much for joining me.
This is such a community space for friends just to come together and meet new friends.
Tell me about the local cub, because you guys have been here for a while.
Yes, we've been here for ten years.
A local cub started as just a very small neighborhood gathering space.
I think it took about at least two years before to even look anything like this.
Okay.
It is beautiful space in here.
Do you think.
Is it like.
It looks like some reclaimed wood?
Yeah, I guess, a lot of the work was actually done by neighbors and volunteers.
A lot of our furniture was given to us by neighbors and, things like that.
The local cup, holds a very special place in my heart.
I've worked here, actually, since I was 15 years old.
So that was ten years ago, and I love it.
And now you're the owner?
Yeah.
I'm amazing.
Which just speaks to the aspect of, you know, how important this is for your community, right?
You're you're home grown here, right?
Very much so.
So what does it mean to have a space like this in your community?
Oh, I've heard someone mentioned that this is like a neighborhood living room.
I love that.
I love the sound of that is really where so many people can just come together.
I always, when I hire someone new, I always say, you know, I'm hope you're ready to be a bunch of questions.
Like everybody wants to get to know you here is more of an experience than just coming in, getting a cup of coffee and leaving.
I love it.
So now here at the local club, what are you guys serving?
We are serving Chemex.
Pour over brew coffee.
You.
So tell me what that is.
Yeah, I don't know.
I'm not a coffee connoisseur.
So you know how to make this stuff.
It's actually, like, a pretty cool vessel.
Almost looks like, time stopper, but was let me use, like, just filtered hot water.
We are, use a local, coffee company or you to use Bendix coffee.
So that was originally owned by Karen Hahn.
She sold it to another couple.
So we are still working with them ten years later.
I actually created the, the blend that we use.
It's a Nicaraguan Ethiopian mix, a medium roast.
And what does that do for the flavors?
It really brings them together.
And, like, I didn't start drinking coffee almost two years ago, which is so funny, but I really like the smells of the two coffees.
Oh, yeah.
Baby, smell it in here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that's how I came up with that.
And then we were able to sell those, and bags.
Now.
So everything here has no set price on your drinks, but.
Okay, I see that.
I mean, looking up here, there's no set prices.
Now, why is that?
That is because the original founders wanted just a place for people to come together.
Really wasn't about to them.
It wasn't about the money.
It wasn't about becoming a billionaire.
You know, it was solely about just bringing the community together.
As we like to say, one cup at a time.
And you guys are a nonprofit.
We are everything.
Then you pay for your coffee, goes into the shop, goes into, art supplies and on to pay the employees.
So, you know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
So it's like you're always everybody's involved.
Yeah.
As we like to say.
Yeah, it really is a community.
Yeah.
You know business.
Yeah.
essentially Yep I love that.
Okay.
So what are some of the flavors that you guys are offering here?
So we like our coffee.
We only do the one roast.
Okay.
But for drink wise we carry like your typical to, vanilla caramel hazelnut.
Right now it's summer.
So we're doing our seasonal lemonades.
Oh, great.
You get peach, blueberry, strawberry or lavender.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
So the people love our lavender lemonade.
Okay, so that's what we're doing now.
Our chocolate sauce is homemade.
Our whipped cream is homemade for all of our drinks.
I'm sure that's delicious.
Are you making it?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, we're making it delicious.
Okay.
Making people stop in at the local cup.
You can stop it every Thursday from 7 to 1230.
Friday, seven at 1230.
Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Sunday, 12 to 4.
Okay.
And where can people get more information about the local.
They can find us on Facebook.
The local, the local club and all of the same at for Instagram.
Okay.
And you guys have like, events I mean, this is a great thing.
We typically we try to do events.
Okay.
One of our actually employees, Maddie, she performed for us, Saint Mary's graduate.
We'll miss her, but we like to do, like, live music here and there and somebody who might be interested in setting something up?
And they do that, and maybe they absolutely can.
They just reach us at our contact information online, I love it.
Well, thanks so much for doing this and especially for doing this in the community right here in your northwest neighbor.
And and I had to thank you Aireal
