(Whistle sounding) (Laughing) What happened?
I just opened the gate.
Where where did that ball come from?
And how did it end up in this cup?
Hmm.
A mystery indeed.
Hmm.
(Gasping) Unless we can find the cause.
You mean what made it happen?
Exactly.
Let's see.
You opened the gate like this... Oh!
It must have bumped into this hammer thing.
FISH: Right.
But where does the ball come in?
Well, if the ball was in this thing, maybe the hammer made it go up this pole.
NICK: And it caused the ball to go down that curvy shoot.
And that made the whistle blow.
Let's put the ball there and see what happens if you swing the gate open again.
Oh, I can't wait to see.
(Whistle sounding) It happened again!
So, opening the gate was the cause.
A-ha!
I see!
And the effect?
You mean what happened next?
What did happen next?
The ball went up to the top of the shoot and then went down and landed in the cup, which made the whistle blow.
That's the effect.
