Hi, I'm Faye Nagler.
I'm Idaho Public Television's Digital Innovator for this year.
Today we went into a fifth grade classroom and we introduced students to the first lesson of a three part, 45 minute coding programing lesson, which uses hands on robotics.
So our STEM Program has taken a turn, because we had restructuring in our district last year.
Which means we'll be going into the classrooms with our lessons so that the teachers won't be teaching it.
We will have me as a dedicated STEM instructor, teaching the lessons to the students in the classrooms.
So I'm very comfortable and excited, I'm probably more excited than the kids sometimes doing these things.
It's just amazing to see how they really interact and light up when they get with the robots.
They also really love to code, but what I'm trying to do is in our push-in lessons, something a little bit different that they wouldn't normally get in a classroom setting where they could do hour of coding, or they could do, scratch programing.
What we're trying to do is add a little bit more to get them really excited.
Our goal is to basically have a seamless program going from kindergarten all the way up to 12th grade for the entire system, where every student will get computer science instruction and programing.
So it's a very lofty goal to start a kindergarten and go all the way through, but that's our goal.
You get a nice gift when you become the Digital Innovator.
You get a little bit of money to spend, and so I spent my little bit of money, I haven't got them yet, on twelve Botley Robots and Botley Robots are actually designed for younger children.
So first and second grade, a little bit different than the Ozo-bots and the Sphereos that we were looking at, and these Botley robots I got a classroom set with my with my donation from Idaho Public Television and I'm able now to extend my robotics down to my younger kids.
So, so yes, thank you.
That was great.
