HEY SKYNERDS, I'’’M TRACE.
THERE ARE SO MANY SHAPES IN THE SKY, 88 OF THEM ARE CONSTELLATIONS BUT THERE ARE LOTS OF SHAPES THAT ARE OFTEN EASIER TO SPOT LIKE THE KITE WHICH IS PART OF BOOTES THE HERDSMAN!
HIT THE DARKNESS ANY NIGHT THIS WEEK.
AROUND 10 PM; HIGH IN THE NORTHEASTERN SKY WILL BE THE GIANT SAUCEPAN OF THE BIG DIPPER IF YOU DRAW AN IMAGINARY LINE THROUGH THE HANDLE OF THE BIG DIPPER ALONG AN ARC, YOU'LL ARC YOUR WAY TO THE BRIGHT STAR, ARCTURUS.
ARCTURUS IS THE BRIGHTEST STAR IN BOOTES THE HERDSMAN AND IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU SHOULD SEE THIS KITE-SHAPED CONSTELLATION WITH SEVEN OTHER STARS.
LET'’’S JUMP ON THE SKYBOARD AND TAKE A LOOK.
TRAVELING COUNTER-CLOCKWISE FROM ARCTURUS THESE SEVEN ARE RHO BOOTIS, SEGINUS, NEKKAR, DELTA BOOTIS, AND IZAR.
THE TWO HANGING OFF EITHER SIDE OF ARCTURUS ARE BOOTES'’’ LEGS MUPHRID AND ZETA BOOTIS.
WHAT A TRIM FIGURE!
KEEP LOOKING UP!
