My name's Monica.
I'm playing my instrument, the guitar, and I need a snack while I take five.
Can you please make me a Caprese salad for my break?
Cookie Monster: Of course we can help you!
Because we are... Cookie Monster and Gonger: Monster Foodies!
Cookie Monster: Okay, me got the lettuce.
Gonger: Oh, Cookie Monster.
You know, not all salads have lettuce.
Cookie Monster: Okay, so what we need to make Caprese salad, Chef Gonger?
[tablet chimes] Gonger: Well, we need a tomato.
We need some fresh mozzarella cheese, basil leaves, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.
Cookie Monster: Okay!
We got tomato... [clears throat] basil leaves, oil, and balsamic vinegar.
Gonger: Uh, yeah.
You just said, "Okay, we got tomato, we got... [clears throat]" where there should be fresh mozzarella cheese!
Cookie Monster: Yes, me did.
And you know what?
That a funny story.
Gonger: I hope you are not going to tell me that you ate all of the mozzarella cheese.
Cookie Monster: And it was delicious.
Gonger: Oh, Cookie Monster!
Ah.
Ooh!
I got a plan!
Okay, it's no problem.
Let's go get fresh mozzarella cheese from the deli.
Cookie Monster: You got to calm down, Gonger.
Breathe, breathe, breathe.
Gonger: Come on, come on.
[upbeat music] ♪ ♪ Cookie Monster and Gonger: To the deli!
♪ ♪ ♪ Deli, deli ♪ ♪ We're going to the deli for cheese ♪ Cookie Monster: Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
Here we are at the... Cookie Monster and Gonger: Deli!
Cookie Monster: Hello, Deli Person.
We need fresh mozzarella cheese for a Caprese salad.
Can you help us, please?
Deli Person: Hey there, Cookie Monster and Gonger.
Sure, I can help you.
Come on in.
To make fresh mozzarella cheese, we start with curd.
First, we use the cutter to slice it into small pieces.
[mid-tempo jazzy music] Next, we add some hot water.
♪ ♪ And we stir to make sure all the pieces get cooked.
As they cook, the pieces start to come together.
♪ ♪ We keep checking them and sooner or later, they're all one big, cheesy clump.
♪ ♪ Now we stretch the cheese with a paddle to make it smooth.
♪ ♪ We scoop out most of the water to stop the cheese from cooking and then we keep stretching... and stretching... and stretching.
♪ ♪ Now we braid the cheese into our own special style.
♪ ♪ Then we cool it in water.
♪ ♪ After it's cooled, we place it in a special kind of paper called parchment paper, which acts like a towel, absorbing any extra water.
Now we wrap that in butcher paper to keep it fresh and delicious.
And it's done.
Here's some fresh mozzarella for your Caprese salad, Cookie Monster and Gonger.
Cookie Monster: Thank you!
[horn honks] Cookie Monster and Gonger: Cheese, cheese.
Going home with fresh mozzarella cheese!
Cookie Monster: Okay, we got fresh mozzarella cheese.
Now me wonder how we make fresh Caprese salad.
Gonger: Well, this is a wild idea but what if we follow the recipe?
Cookie Monster: Oh, good idea.
Let's try!
Gonger: So first, we slice the tomato and the fresh mozzarella.
Cookie Monster: Slice the tomato.
Slice, slice, slice.
Gonger: Next up, the cheese.
Cookie Monster: Slice, slice, slice.
Gonger: Now put them in a pattern.
Tomato, cheese, tomato, cheese.
Next, chop the basil leaves.
Cookie Monster: Chop, chop, chop, chop, chop, chop.
Gonger: Then, sprinkle basil leaves on top.
Cookie Monster: Sprinkle.
Gonger: Last, drizzle of oil and balsamic vinegar.
Cookie Monster: This beautiful!
♪ ♪ Gonger: Oh!
[gong rings] It's ready!
Cookie Monster: One Caprese salad for Monica!
[whooshing] Bye-bye, food!
Gonger: Ar rivederci, mozzarella!
Cookie Monster, since you did such a good job, I got this nice for you.
Cookie Monster: Oh, thank you, Gonger.
[munching noisily] Gonger: That easy.
[tablet chimes] Oh, oh, come on, come on!
Cookie Monster: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Monica: Thank you, Cookie Monster and Gonger, for this delicious and healthy snack.
