[upbeat music] ♪ ♪ - A late snowstorm in spring evoked the same reaction from everyone.
- Ooh.
When will this cold weather end?
- [groans] - Everyone except a certain little monkey.
- [chatters cheerfully] Hmm.
[cheers] [chews loudly] - Hey, nice snowman.
- [gibbers happily] - Last one of the season, too.
It's gonna be warm soon.
All the snow is going to melt.
- [gasps] [whimpers] - Before George knew it, summer was in full swing.
And everyone was singing a different tune.
- Whew.
When will this hot weather end?
- [panting, whines] [upbeat music] - Everyone except George, who sat happily sipping ice water... - [slurps, grumbles] - Without any ice.
- ♪ Oh, it's happy day in the summer sun ♪ ♪ Swimming, splashing, and having fun ♪ ♪ Good-bye winter with skies of gray ♪ ♪ It's a happy summer day ♪ - Ahh.
- ♪ Well, the palm tree sways in the ocean breeze ♪ ♪ The waves roll in from the Grenadines ♪ ♪ It's the life for me I have to say ♪ ♪ It's a happy summer day ♪ [loud clamor] - [grumbles] - What happened to the power?
- [chatters confusedly] [car horns honking] - Wow.
Looks like a city-wide power outage.
Uh, better shut the freezer to keep the cold air inside, George, or everything might melt, including your snowman.
- [yelling] - Don't worry.
The frozen food and ice in there should keep him cold enough so he won't melt.
- [chatters happily] - George wanted to share the good news with his snowman.
- But only if you keep the door shut.
- [gasps] - I'm off.
I promised Professor Wiseman I'd help her with her Petri dish inventory.
Bye!
- Bye!
- George was worried there wasn't enough ice to keep his snowman frozen.
- Hmm.
Whew.
[chattering proudly] Huh.
- He still felt cold.
- [gasps and shouts] - George needed more ice.
- [chatters nervously] [Muzak playing] ♪ ♪ - Ugh.
Sorry, George.
That man just got the last bag.
- [groans] - Sorry, Georgio, but I don't even have ice to keep my ice cream frozen.
That's why I'm giving it away.
- Thank you.
- [gibbers sadly] - Oh, days like today, I wish I could be a penguin.
They have nothing but ice-cold ice.
- Hmm.
[gasps] Aha!
[upbeat music] [chatters excitedly] [penguins chirping] [comical music] [cheering wholeheartedly] ♪ ♪ Whoo-hoo!
[grunting and laughing] Aha!
[grunting] Hmm.
[penguins chirping] [gibbers worriedly] - Penguins sure knew how to walk on ice.
- Ah!
[muttering] - Hey, it worked.
- [yells] [coughs] [muttering uncomfortably] - George?
- [gibbers nervously] - Only penguins are supposed to be back here, and we need that bucket.
- [chatters pleadingly] - You want some ice?
Okay, one piece.
But don't tell anyone where you got it.
- [gibbers happily] ♪ ♪ - In the hot sun, George warmed up quickly.
- [gasps] - And so did his ice.
It was melting.
- [panting] - And his hands were getting cold.
- Oh.
[dog barking] [screeches] [groans] [chatters worriedly] [gibbers nervously] - [barks] - [chatters franticly] - [grumbles] - [gibbers nervously] - Sorry, George, but the elevator's out of order.
No power.
- [shouts] [chatters hysterically] [shouts] [gasps and yells] [groans] [moans sadly] - George's snowman was becoming a slush man.
- Aha!
- If George couldn't bring ice to his snowman, he'd have to bring his snowman to the ice.
- [gibbers excitedly] [grunts enthusiastically] [chatters excitedly] [gasps] ♪ ♪ Oh.
[grumbles] [groans] ♪ ♪ Bye-bye!
- George would come back when the power was on again.
- Ooh.
[groans] - Everything in the freezer had thawed.
- [groans] [grumbles] [whines] - Hey, penguins.
More fish.
Huh?
You made a snowman?
How?
And where did you get toothbrushes?
You guys don't even have teeth.
- [chirps] [refrigerator buzzes] - Hey, everybody, good news.
The power is back on.
- [cheers] [chatters excitedly] [gibbers cheerfully] [shouts] [gibbers excitedly] Bye!
[chatters nervously] [gibbers triumphantly] ♪ ♪ - Come on, look.
Isn't it amazing?
- Uh, look at what?
- I-it was right here.
I swear.
They made a snowman.
- [chatters happily] - George, are you home?
- [gibbers excitedly] - Oh, no.
Did everything in the freezer thaw?
- Uh-huh.
- You didn't leave the door closed, did you?
- [chatters guiltily] - [gasps] George, didn't you say everything thawed?
- [gibbers sheepishly] - Everything... but not everyone.
[upbeat music] ♪ ♪ - Every Father's Day, George celebrated the same way.
- [chatters excitedly] - It all started with breakfast in bed.
Then they made Father's day stew together.
Then they ate together.
- [snoring] - Uhh!
- [gibbers cheerfully] [chatters happily] - Oh, thank you, George.
[yawns] Look at this beautiful breakfast.
- [gasps] - George had forgotten the Father's Day card.
- [gibbers nervously] - Oh.
You want me to sleep a little more?
- [chatters agreeably] - Well, don't mind if I do.
- [gibbering] [door bell jingles] Hi.
- Well, hello, George.
- [chatters excitedly] - Ada, is there any red paint?
- Hmm.
[chatters inquisitively] - This?
It's a totem pole.
It's for my dad for Father's Day.
- Ahh.
- George, this is my friend Kimi.
She's visiting for a few days.
- Hi!
- Hi!
- [gibbers excitedly] - Sure.
Just be careful of the wet paint.
- [chatters happily] Ooh.
[gibbers excitedly] - Kimi is Native American, and in some Native American cultures, they used totem poles like this to tell their family histories and ancient legends.
- Hmm.
- This one tells a story of a trip my dad and I took together.
- Ahh.
- The owl represents my dad because he's pretty wise.
- [gibbers attentively] - And there's a fish because it was a fishing trip.
- Hmm.
- And the bear cub is me.
- [laughs] - It's really coming along, Kimi.
- I can't wait to see the look on my dad's face.
[whispers] It's a surprise.
- [chatters dejectedly] Oh... - Would you like to get that, George?
- Huh?
Oh.
[gibbers happily] - Bye, George.
- Bye.
- Drop by some time.
My dad and I are staying with my grandpa, just three houses away.
- [gibbers cordially] Oh.
- Maybe this Father's Day, in addition to a card, the man would like a surprise.
- [chatters excitedly] - [snoring] [mutters] - [gibbers cheerfully] - [gasps] Oh, my goodness.
Look at all this food.
And a card.
Uh...I'm guessing it says Happy Father's Day.
- [chatters joyfully] - It might take me a while to eat all this, buddy.
- Uh-huh!
- Well, as soon as I finish this, we can start on the Father's Day stew.
- [chatters agreeably] [grunts excitedly] - Okay.
- Aww.
- For ideas for his totem pole, George searched through his family photo album.
He and the man had had so many fun times together.
- Hmm.
[gibbers excitedly] [upbeat music] [cheering happily] - Ooh.
- [laughs] [laughs] ♪ ♪ [frog croaks] - Whoa!
- [gasps] [frog croaking] [laughs] - [chuckles] - [giggles] [gasps] - Oh.
Whoa!
- [laughs] [chatters happily] - George knew just what he wanted on his totem pole.
- [gibbering impatiently] [chatters triumphantly] [gibbers disappointedly] - It didn't look like Kimi's totem pole.
It looked like a big lump.
- Hmm.
- Maybe George needed some expert help, so off he went to Kimi's grandpa's.
- Um, what is it?
- [gibbers proudly] - Oh.
A totem pole.
- [chatters agreeably] - Well, totem poles tell Native American family histories or ancient legends.
But yours could be a story-pole.
- Hmm.
[gibbers optimistically] [chattering worriedly] - Well, this one is made out of wood, and it took me days and days to make.
- [gibbers dejectedly] - Yeah, my grandpa helped me carve it.
He's made lots of them.
- [chatters happily] - Yeah!
Come on.
I'll show you one.
It's just around back.
♪ ♪ - Ooh!
- My grandpa made it to the tell the story of our family.
- [chatters inquisitively] - Yeah.
The eagle represents the intelligence and courage of my great great grandparents.
- [gibbers attentively] - The beaver represents their children, who were builders.
- [laughs] - And the wolf represents loyalty because we've always been a really close family.
- Ah.
- And my grandpa carved it all from one tree.
- Hmm.
- George knew he couldn't carve a tree for the man, but he could still use one.
- Ah.
♪ ♪ - [chatters happily] - Oh, there you are, George.
- Oh.
Hello.
- You ready to help me make the Father's Day stew?
I'll just get the big pot.
- Uh... - George needed more time alone to make a new story-pole for the man.
- [gibbers worriedly] - What?
You don't think we have enough carrots?
- [chatters enthusiastically] - Hmm.
You know, I think you're right, George.
Our stew needs more carrots.
- [gibbers agreeably] - I'll just pop out to the store, okay?
Hey, you want to come?
- [chatters dutifully] - I'll be back in a little bit.
- Whew.
[gibbers excitedly] Hmm.
- First, George needed a few supplies.
♪ ♪ - [chatters excitedly] Hmm.
- Birds had feathers.
And so did feather dusters.
- [gibbers enthusiastically] ♪ ♪ [chatters happily] - Next came the frog.
That would be easy.
- Ooh, ooh.
[giggles] [groans] - Uh-oh.
Froggy was too heavy to stick to the glue.
- Aha!
- But George had come prepared.
♪ ♪ - [croaks] - And now for the elephant.
- Ah.
- There was the bird... the frog... and the elephant.
- [gibbers happily] - George, I'm back.
- [chatters excitedly] - Huh.
We haven't made much progress, have we?
- [grunts] [gibbers cheerfully] - Huh?
Oh, you have a surprise for me?
- [chuckles] - Oh!
- [chatters cheerfully] - Huh.
It's a tree.
With some feathers... and a frog and an elephant?
What a surprise.
- [gibbers excitedly] - Oh.
Hey, I remember this.
This was right before those birds ate seeds off my hat.
- [chatters happily] - And that was when the frog jumped on my head.
[laughs] - [croaks] [laughter] - Hey, that elephant isn't gonna spray us this time is it?
- [chuckles] - [laughs] - Ah, these are all symbols of the good times we've had.
What a great Father's Day gift, George.
- Aww.
[gibbers happily] - Aww.
- It was a perfect Father's Day.
Breakfast in bed and Father's Day stew, which they made together and ate together under their Father's Day story-pole.
