- Foreshadowing provides clues about future events in the story, and it's a surefire way to ignite your child's imagination and reading comprehension.
Next time you're reading together, pause at each page to ask your child open-ended questions that'll get them thinking about what may happen next.
You could even start by asking them what they think about the cover.
- What do you think's gonna happen next?
- [Instructor] Expand on their guesses by asking follow-up questions to encourage engagement.
If they can't guess what will happen next, make your own guess and describe any foreshadowing that led to your conclusion.
- Do you think they're about to go to sleep?
- Seeing how you made your connection will help them do the same.
Thank you for your guesses, and remember, you can always think ahead while you're reading.
