Hey, internet.
This week it's “Ghost” from 1990.
Here's the best trivia.
You know, the animated, terrifying shadows that drag people to hell in the movie?
Well, the sound they make is actually the sounds of babies crying at an extremely slow speed.
Ooh, creepy!
When they were casting the part of the psychic Oda Mae, Whoopi Goldberg wasn't even being considered.
But Patrick Swayze had just seen her one woman Broadway show and said it had to be her and the director, Jerry Zucker, and the and the writer, Bruce Joel Rubin were like, ehhh... but Swayze, he was like, it's gotta be Whoopi or I quit.
And they were like, whoa, okay.
And she won an Oscar.
Whoopi even said in her Oscar acceptance speech what a stand up guy Swayze he was for that.
Swayze said it was his hardest role he's ever played, because he just had to observe the action and not be able to join in.
Demi Moore took pottery lessons with director Jerry Zucker to make it look like she knew what she was doing, but I can't help but think how funny that must have been.
Jerry Zucker being one of the directors of “Airplane”, “Top Secret”, and “Police Squad”.
I can't imagine him not being hilarious all the time, but with the stuff I've read about him in preparation for this movie, he seems like a real heart on his sleeve type of guy.
Zucker illustrated how he wanted to look when a ghost walked through a living person by dipping his napkin into a cup of coffee.
And yeah, I see it.
I mentioned in my intro that ghost is one of the highest grossing movies of all time, and it was a shock to Paramount, who released the movie, and then they immediately wanted a sequel.
But Bruce Joel Rubin and Zucker said that it was a stupid idea and it was scrapped.
Can you even imagine a world now where somebody makes a movie with their hearts and it's profitable and they refuse to make a sequel because what they made was perfect just as it is and can't be topped?
Wow, if only.
One last thing, “Ghost” was the most rented VHS tape of 1991.
Take that “Home Alone”.
That's all this time, and we'll see you Saturday Night!
