Today, I'm gonna draw a picture with my favorite crayon!
A crayon with the best color ever!
Some call it blue, I call it cerulean.
(waves whooshing) ♪ Cerulean ♪ - Nothing can ruin today!
(Huggy crashing) It's gonna be amazing!
Cerulean crayon, please.
(upbeat music) That's not a cerulean crayon.
That's a red crayon.

That's orange!

Hey, that's white.

That's violet.

(whistling music) - Oh.

- Crayon broken.
- Oh, my favorite cerulean crayon is broken.
Today is a bad day.

(bell dings) (door whooshing) (jazz music) - (exhales) Today of all days!
- Welcome to the elevator.
Hi, I'm Albie.
- Let me tell you, Albie, today is not going the way I thought it would.
Hi, I'm Malik.
- Hi.
Albie.
Yeah, today was supposed to be the best day ever.
- You're telling me.
Look.
(sad music) My tie ripped in half.
- How did it get like that?
- Beats me.
- My favorite cerulean crayon is broken.
- Cerurr.
- Cerulean?
- Mm-hmm.
- Great choice.
Today is not our day.
Oh, brother.
- Oh, brother.
- [Huggy] Oh, brother.
(all exhale) - What floor?
- Floor 68, please.
I'm meeting an old friend from my bird-watching club.
- Bird-watching?
I saw a pigeon yesterday.
- Did it have some purple and green around the gray feathers?
- Oh, yes!
- I love those!
My favorite kind of bird is a turkey.
It sounds like this.
Gobble, gobble.
Gobble, gobble.
Gobble, gobble (gobbling) - Gobble, gobble.
Gobble, gobble.
Gobble, gobble (gobbling) - Hey!
That's perfect.
That's the reason I'm a bird-watcher and not a bird caller.
(Malik and Albie laugh) (groans) I just remembered my ripped tie.
- I just remembered my broken crayon.
Today is a bad day!
- You're telling me.
(chiming music) Well, I'd say we both had a bad moment.
- A moment?
Is that the stuff you put on an itchy spot?
- (chuckles) No.
A moment is like a small piece of your day.
Waking up, brushing your teeth, breaking your crayon.
Those are all moments.
- Getting on the elevator.
- Exactly!
A day is full of lots of small pieces.
- Moments.
- Good moments and bad moments too.
- But how do I have a good day if my favorite crayon is broken?
- I thought the same thing with my ripped tie.
There must be someone that can help explain it.
- Hmm.
(gasps) I have an idea.
Follow me!
(rattling drum music) Destination broken crayon, ripped tie moment, activate.
(grunts) (machine whirring) (upbeat music) - (indistinct) mode activated, Albie!
(upbeat music continues) (Loretta vocalizing) ♪ Location locked on ♪ - Philosophy poppers popping!
- Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.
♪ Power ♪ - [Tibitz] We have arrived.
(bell dings) (door whooshes) (door thuds) - Hey there, I'm Amy.
- Hi!
I'm Albie.
- Hello there.
I'm Malik.
Pardon my tie.
- We're having a bad day.
I mean a a bad moment.
- Have you ever had those?
- Oh, sure.
Just this morning I spilled my cereal.
- Oh, did that make your whole day bad?
- Not at all.
It's a beautiful day out.
I took my dog for a walk.
I met a friend.
We had a chat.
And I saw a really pretty bird.
- (gasps) I like the sound of that!
- And I made some art.
Art always makes me feel good.
- Oh, did you use a cerulean crayon?
- No, but I used a lot of little parts to make something big.
Come, let me show you.
(upbeat music) Oh, hi there!
Let me show you some of the stuff that I make art with.
I find my materials all over the place.
Sometimes I use broken pieces of jewelry.
Or here I have a little lock from a suitcase.
I found it on the floor outside.
And buttons.
There're buttons all over the place.
So I weave them together, and then I incorporate them into my artwork.
I often find children's toys, pieces of toys that were outside.
Maybe some of them were yours and you left them out there.
How about this?
Do you recognize that?
I'm gonna put it in my artwork too.
- Well, I was going to draw a picture today, but my crayon is broken.
- It's just a small piece of a bigger day.
You can turn that crayon upside down and still use it.
And you can do the same thing with your day.
You can do it, Albie.

(door whooshes) - So a day is made of lots of pieces, lots of good moments.
- And some bad moments too.
But having a good day is all up to you.
- Today is a good day!
- That's the spirit!
I think today is a good day too.
Now, what should we do about this crayon?
- Hmm.
I want to make a picture with it.
Even if a piece broke off.
(Huggy warbles) - I happen to know a way of fixing broken crayons.
Watch this.
Huggy!
Sometimes the end of the crayon breaks, but there's more crayon on the inside.
So if you peel back the wrapper, you'll find more cerulean crayon.
♪ Cerulean ♪ - More crayon!
- [Huggy] More craylu.
- What about your tie?
- I don't think this tie is fixable, but that's okay.
A small bad moment and a great day.
- (gasps) Wait!
I do have an idea.
Huggy, come here.
(whispering) - [Huggy] Oh!
(friends chattering) - Easy there.
Hey, that tickles!
Oh, brother.
What's going on here?
(triumphant music) Well, would you look at that?
- Your tie is fixed.
- (laughs) Thanks, Albie.
Meeting you makes today a good day.
Actually, today might be the best day ever!
High five.
- High five.
Turkey!
- Yay!
Maybe I just eat turkey!
- Gobble, gobble.
- Gobble, gobble.
(Malik and Albie gobbling) (Malik and Albie laughing) (bell dings) - Floor 68.
That's my floor.

- Bye, Malik.

(Malik chuckles) (Huggy gobbling) - Oh, bye, Huggy.

- Gobble, gobble!
- I'll keep practicing.
(Albie laughs) (upbeat music) (thumb whooshes) (door whooshes) (bright music) (Albie humming) - I thought my broken crayon made today bad.
But it was actually just a bad moment.
Today, I met Malik and I learned about art, and I can still use my crayon.
Today was the best date ever!
(Huggy warbles) - What do we draw, Huggy?
(Huggy warbles) A cerulean turkey!
Okay, first the cerulean feathers.
(Huggy warbles) Mm-hmm.
Okay.
And next, the cerulean feet.
(Huggy warbles) I know, right?
And then the beak.
It's cerulean too.
(Huggy warbles) And then the gobble, gobble.
(door whooshes) (bright music) (upbeat music) ♪ If I had a drum ♪ ♪ I would sing a song about my friends ♪ ♪ Bumpedy, bump, bumpedy, bump, bumpedy, bump ♪ Ooh, Hi!

- Did you see a perfectly wrapped present?
Is it your birthday?
- Nope.
(Albie gasps) This is a surprise present for my friend.
I'm so excited for them to open it!
- Whoo!
- Yeah!
What's inside?
(Huggy shouting) - It's a surprise.
The person it's for should be the first to know.
- Oh, can you tell us?
- Hmm.
- Please.
Please.
Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please!
- What if my friend opens the present in the elevator?
(Albie gasps) That way can all find out together.
- Woo-hoo!
- Woo-hoo!
That's perfect, yeah!
(bell dings) - Floor 53.
I'll go get my friend.
Do me a favor.
- Hmm?
(tense music) Watch this super secret, awesome present.
(teeth chattering) And make sure nobody opens it.
(chiming music) Okay?
Great.

(Albie groans) - Too much fun.
Ah!
(chuckles) (door whooshes) (chiming music) (Albie gasps) - [Huggy] (gasps) Wow.
- I wonder what's inside this special present.
(Huggy warbles) - Uh, maybe it's a rainbow in a bottle, or a giant sneaker for a dinosaur, or, uh, uh, and stuff!
(panting) (Huggy warbles) We can't open this present.

- Uh, what do we do?
What do we do?
Uh, Tibitz!

Maybe if I just... (grunts) Uh-oh.
(bell dings) - I'm so excited.
I went to the wrong floor.

- Uh, hey Jay.
Welcome, present.
I mean, welcome back.
(Huggy warbles) - A perfectly wrapped present.
My friend is gonna love it!
Floor 52.
(bell dings) Be back soon.
(Jay laughs) - Huggy!
There's a big rip in the present!
Hmm, Jay's gonna see what I did.
Unless, unless (suspenseful music) maybe I didn't open the present.
Maybe it was, uh... (dramatic music) It was a big, orange, fuzzy thing.
- Big, owa, fuzza, tee!
- Yeah, I want to tell Jay what really happened but I don't know if he'll be sad or mad.
Oh, we need to come up with a story.
(Albie and Huggy whooshing) Destination somewhere uh, uh, uh.
(grunts) (machine whirring) (upbeat music) - (indistinct) mode activated, Albie!
(Loretta vocalizing) ♪ Location locked on.
♪ - Aluminium sponges sponging.
- Spongy, spongy, spongy.
(Huggy warbles) ♪ Power ♪ - [Tibitz] We have arrived.
(bell dings) (door whooshing) (door thuds) - Hey there.
What are you guys doing here?
- Hi!
No time to explain.
We need a story about a big, orange, fuzzy thing.
And we need it fast.
- Big, owa, fuzza, tee.
(laughs) - Big, orange, fuzzy thing?
Pause, rewind.
What's going on?
- Jay had a present.
Jay said not to open the present.
Me and Huggy opened the present.
Oh, hi.
I'm Albie, and this is Huggy.
- Huh?
- Hi, I'm Steve.
As you were saying?
- Jay will be back soon.
So we need to make up a story about a big, orange, fuzzy thing that opened the present, not us!
- Well, my job is to imagine stories.
I make comics like this.
Let's imagine a story where a big, orange, fuzzy thing opens the present.
- Woo-hoo!
- Each story will have three parts, a beginning, a middle, and an end.
(gentle music) In the beginning, the big, orange, fuzzy thing snuck into the elevator.
So we're gonna start with the big, orange, fuzzy thing.
When I first heard of the big, orange, fuzzy thing my initial thought was a big, orange poof ball.
And now give 'em some legs.
And I'm gonna draw Albie.
I'm gonna have present, and then we'll draw Huggy Pepper.
(Huggy warbles) And then you gotta make the orange monster, right?
In the middle, it took a bite out of the present.
So we're gonna start with the big, orange, fuzzy monster again.
This time, he's taking a bite.
So now we're gonna draw Albie's reaction.
You can use anything you want to make comics.
You can use a marker, use colored pencil.
So you can do whatever you want.
And at the end, you tell Jay a big, orange, fuzzy thing ate his present.
So we have to think about how Jay's gonna feel.
Probably gonna be pretty sad.
- Huh?
- I know if I had a present, and I had a bite taken out of it, I wouldn't be too happy.
(marker clicks) Finished.
In the beginning, the big, orange, fuzzy thing snuck into the elevator.
In the middle, it took a bite out of the present.
- Hmm.
- And at the end, you tell Jay a big, orange, fuzzy thing ate his present.
This isn't what really happened, is it?
- No.
Oh, what do we do?
- Let's imagine a new story, one where you tell Jay the truth.
- So in this story, I fixed the present.
- So let's start with Albie again.
I'm gonna give you a smile because you fixed the present.
Let's use some tape.
There.
All better.
- Then Jay comes back on the elevator and I tell Jay what happened.
- So let's draw Jay again.
We're gonna draw Albie again.
- And then, oh, I don't know!
(Huggy warbles) Jay might be mad or sad!
(groans) - Well, it's hard to draw the unknown.
But I think a good symbol that represents that is a question mark.
So, you fixed the present.
You tell Jay what happened.
And we don't know how the story ends.
Telling the truth is hard, but it's so important.
Here, take this pink tape.
It's just like the one we used in the story.
(whistling music) (Huggy pops) (Huggy warbles) - Oh.
(Huggy warbles) Wow!

(sighs) I think I want to tell Jay the truth and fix the present.
We only have a little time left.
(Huggy warbles) Come on.

- And I'll just put that there.
(bright music) - Okay, my friend will be here any second.
- Jay, can I tell you something?
- Of course.
Always.
- Um, hmm.
The big orange, dat, dat.
No, no, no.
(sighs) (inhales) I opened your present, Jay.
- Oh, really?
Why?
- I wanted to see what was inside.
And then I didn't want you to find out and get mad.
- Oh.
- We tried to fix the hole.
I'm sorry.
Hmm.
- I'm upset that you opened the present, but I'm happy you told me the truth.
I accept your apology.
- Really?
- Really?
- I'm sure telling the truth wasn't easy, but you were brave and you did it anyway.
That means a lot.
And you fixed the present.
Oh.
(bell dings) - Oh.
(triumphant music) (Albie gasps) (Jay laughs) (upbeat music) - It's a big, orange, fuzzy thing!
(Huggy warbles) - That's my friend!
(Huggy shrieks) (hands clapping) (present rattles) Okay, everybody ready?
- Yes!
- Alrighty.
Here we go, in three, two, I'm so excited, one.
(paper ripping) (Jay laughs) - What is it?
(Huggy warbles) - Yeah!
(Albie gasps) (upbeat music continues) (whistling music) (box thuds) (orange thing gasps) - Wow!
A drum!
- I just had a feeling you would like it.
(laughs) (orange thing gasps) (upbeat percussive music) (Albie giggles) ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh ♪ ♪ Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah ♪ - Ha!
Thanks for spending time with me today.
I made a mistake, but I told the truth.
And that felt really, really good.
- Oh, hey, Albie.
I think my friend wants you to try the drum.
- (gasps) Me?
Yes, please.
